Britta did an incredible job on this show. I recall reading an interview in which she said their schedule was absolutely crazy and how such a project pushed her to the limit and to raise her professionalism.
I had to watch the entire series for a retrospective, and even though I complained through a good chunk of it about MANY aspects of the show, the one thing I will never say a single bad word against is Britta Phillips as Jem's singing voice. Even on the songs that were cheesy, schmaltzy, or not to my taste in some way, she consistently knocked it out of the park with every single performance..

I still find it eminently watchable, if allowances are made for the limitations of Hasbro animation. It's one of the rare shows I've ever watched in any genre, let alone animation, where I have sincerely found myself rooting for the protagonist and against the antagonist, whereas usually I feel the opposite.

I did not go see the live action version of Jem and the Holograms. So glad I did waste my money seeing that piece of crap. From the trailer it's nothing like the 80's cartoon. No Misfits, No Stingers, No Eric Raymond. WTF..... They drop the ball big time. The movie could have been set in the 80's with a awesome 80's soundtrack even using the same songs from the 80's cartoon. Ok Hollywood you owe the real Jem and the Holograms fans a true Jem and the Holograms movie.

There was a little girl outside her window singing this song.... and my friend who knew that I recorded ALL Jem/Misfits songs from the show was like "Sing with Her" ( I was like 10 at the time ) and I responded that "I did not know this song" as it wasn't released in the show as she had bought the Synergy doll.....so I assume now that she got the tape and was singing the song even before the show release. I to this day will always remember that. And I am 43 ys old now. So i guess "SHE had the Power" eh?
From the 1986 version of the opening five parter. The 1985 version was slightly different. This was re-done to better fit a syndicated time slot most likely. I've done a extensive article regarding the two versions and there's plenty of other differences as well.
I love the imagery they used in this. Rather than stereotypical sci fi gimmicks, they used more archaic, almost mythological esc ones, it gives synergy this Prometheus like status. A figure who will change the world, whose invention is so significant that it is on par with humanity discovering fire. She really does have the power.
