You're subliminally (read: in my face!) pushing me to start writing the thesis. I'm keeping in mind I have the option to recycle stuff from my review, and that I will start writing the intro of Paper 1 NEXT WEEK! My ambition is to start writing the full thesis at beginning of year 3! That'll be Jan 1st 2021 :D You're gaining more traction, Vera! And it's more than deserved!
Haha, it's with pleasure to know I am helping you get to your best performance, Kevin. You're already starting with an outstanding attitude, I have no doubt at all you will do great! Thank you I am happy that my videos are reaching more people, hopefully make the PhD journey more manageable!
Trying it for almost a week now. Scheduling is not enough, time tracking does help me in being more aware of how I work and how much time I spend on doing something 😅 painful task like budget tracking but really keeps me grounded on my sched :)
"Grounded" is the right word for that! Scheduling can underestimate how much time everything takes! Timer doesn't lie, and it's humbling to learn our speed sometimes. Happy to hear that you are learning so much from my tips, Kla! Have a nice week :)
Having a log on how I've spent my time every day is how I get good guilt-free sleep at night! Hope this will help you become more intentional with your PhD and put in efforts to the areas that move the needle.
Hi Vera, I really like your videos! Wondering if I could ask a question: 1. Do you track all of your time, or just the time that you spend on projects relating to academics, reading, writing, etc? I just started this past week, and was trying to log all my time and I think it became too overwhelming. On the other hand, it does provide a nice reference for how I spent each day when I look back.
Hi Tom, good question. I only track my working day, i.e. 6-10 h per day. I personally have a boring routine in the morning and in the evening, so it is not very necessary to track every minute of my life. I see how you mean about looking back to understand how you have spent each day. One trick I have found helpful is to record the time spent from browsing history (by entering the time window by the manual option on Toggl), and realize how much time is actually spend on unhealthy habits, e.g. binge-watching cat videos. Also, I am still learning to journal consistently because it is a good way to capture the quality of how that day goes, tell you more than merely the number of hours spent on certain tasks.
@@PhDCoffeeTime Thank you for the insight! I agree my morning and night routines are boring as well (and I kind of like it that way). Journaling may be a good method to capture more qualitative output without going crazy from obsessive-compulsive Toggl-ing.

Vera, I love it! I couldn't agree more with all of your points made! :D Daily tracking of Thesis writing is something every PhD should keep on top of!
Thank you David, it'd mean a world to me if you share this!
@@PhDCoffeeTime Absolutely delighted to share it on my Instagram account - I've unfortunately a lot more interactive followers on there than YT XD
