The lock screen and wallpaper additions are very nice but I think my favorite are the on screen widgets. I can see myself adjusting very quickly to those. Thanks for the review it helps a lot.

I'm not a fan of widgets on the Mac but nice to see how they can work for others.
Jeff could have just written “widgets” ten times and still summarize the Sonoma
Will they ever include profiles ? Like when I set the iPhone with different UI … so then when I finish working I flip to relax or game mode and it changes everything in the mac
What monitor are you using? Is this the Studio Display? If so, why does it not have a stand?
Does the new high performance remote access support audio as well?
The live wallpaper and the widgets are a nice addition maybe Apple Watch widgets on the screen would be nice, macOS is beginning to look like the iPad and Windows however the only thing missing is touch.
It'll be a sad day if they add touch to their Macs
I don't think they are going to add touch to macOS, that is what the iPad is for.

best feature is the airpod switcher. Much approved and a game changer.
Thanks for the video, You show the new features but you don't really show how to access them? i.e. video conferencing updates - but I don't see that in my upper tool bar? so how do you use it? how do you invoke it? etc.

4:45 I think the screen sharing picker is only available to Apple Silicon Macs. I have a newly Sonoma updated iMac 2019 27". Nothing there but the 3 options form before the Sonoma upgrade.

Exactly, hat'snwhat I would have wanted. I jus decided not to use the dynamic one also because it changes the static every time.
I love the wallpapers but already have bing's app which is more unique. I selected all the images for screensavers

Hey there, question, for the safari profiles, can you have separate default accounts. For example, on one safari profile would it be possible to have it default to log into my home gmail account, and in another safari profile, would it be able to have it default to my school gmail/google account? This would be a game changer if it is possible
Also, feels so good to have Jeff back... haven't seen him on the channel and ages... he's so much better than the other dude (he's good, but Jeff is unmatched and makes 9to5mac on RUclips what it is)
Yes it works this way. You can have multiple Google accounts signed in differently within the profiles.

Nothing to write home about, but the presentation stuff seems neat. For pure usability, I don't think that having the shared stuff smaller behind me is that useful, since the people will seldom care about me but rather want to focus on what I share. But, neat.
Can you lock safari profiles behind a password?
The wallpapers are a total waste if you’re a parent because don’t all of us Dads use our kids’ photos on our desktops 😆 . Great presentation on the new features!

Apple is investing more in ipadOS than macOS, there are tons of updates they could easily copy from windows like splitt screen to make it more user-friendly

What an awesome "new" "innovation" by apple to finally give widgets like Windows Vista gave almost 15+ years ago.
Apple did it first on MacOS Tiger 10.4 I was so mad when they decided to removed this feature back in the day. I'm glad is finally back.

There is no text scaling option without downsizing resolution in MacOS. Macs are 4K in theory only.

does anybody know if it’ll be safe to update an older macbook pro (mine is 2017) to Sonoma? I don’t want to lose any of the performance. from personal experience, Older iPhones and iPads didn’t work great with newer iOS versions. so that’s what made me ask
honestly i use a 2014 mbp that technically stopped receiving support at big sur, on ventura with pretty much the same experience, i think you’ll be fine

The dictation color is actually customizable with your Accent color.
I find dictation very useful as I am dyslexic

I do not dictate text. I think it only works correctly with Seattle English. I live in East Tennessee.

This feels so bad that us users of 2017 iMacs 5k 27-inch are left out!!! Our machines are still great even in 2023 or for the years ahead. This sucks Apple! Come on!

Seems like the only new useful feature is the updated dictation.
I don't use dictation in any way shape, form or fashion. Hopefully Sonoma is less iOS feeling like Ventura which I'm not a fan of.
I dictate daily for my work, I easily dictate 2-3000 words a day. Apple dictation is pretty good in my opinion. It’s about 90% accurate and is almost as accurate and useable as Dragon pro. It has still more to learn, I hope they put some ML and neural engine code in it to improve it. Apple’s dictation is night and day better than office 365 dictation system. I can’t compare google cause my job firewalls it away.
It's a shame it does not accept dictation and talking at the same time.

I still find it ridiculous that you have to pay $98 for a pair of Airpod batteries. Unbelievable. Which is why I'll be sticking with my wired studio quality headphones until (if/when?) the EU forces Apple to adopt user replaceable batteries.
my suggestion, instead of you block and blur it, you just fake the adress of personal info etc, so we can see it clearly.
My accent is a mixture of New Zealander accent, southern English accent, and US West Coast American accent. Point: no dictation accent I select can understand me!

Honestly, a very disappointing update. The only major change is the live widgets and honestly, that is something not at all innovate ( It should have been added several years ago).
Not even sure how wallpaper constitutes as an OS update. Apple has rally lost its way.
I think Mac should get rid of dropdown menubar... it's old and uninteresting.

Apple is really losing the software tuning game. It's super counterintuitive that I can't resize the widgets to go smaller or bigger without the preset seizes. There is also no way to move the widgets around. Instead, they implement the same STUPID limitation to the desktop placement like iPhone.
Honestly, this dude is punishing himself or the editor by throwing all those confidential docs. I mean, you could have just used any other document.
