Nothing is more relaxing as traveling only with one camera with a fixed Lens no worries about what lens to use, more time to enjoy the country and less stress. I Used the X100S on my first Japan Trip and the X100F in France and India 😁
I have a similar setup, but I use a Fuji X70 and a GoPro Hero 2018. I don’t need 4K video, so the GoPro works well for me. It’s nice being able to walk around with two cameras, one in each pocket, and take photos and videos on the fly. Great channel. I love your work!
Nice video Samuel! My setup is similar: Ricoh GR3 and GoPro Hero 7, plus some accessories such as a power bank, a small flash etc. Recently I bought a 2019 Ipad air which I use for backing up and editing during longer travels. With Lumafusion installed it works amazingly well for 4k video editing too!
Samuel, love your videos. Quick question on the GR3 wireless upload/sync capability. Which application would you recommend for image sync/upload to iPhone? Thanks.
OTG cable comes in clutch for older cameras. Other than the GoPro I run a similar setup. I picked up an Osmo Pocket to stay minimal as well. Sofia is a great place! Went for business, beautiful city.
My minimalist travel setup is a Fuji X-E1 with the 16-50mm with lens hood; is lightweight und fits (sits?) somewhere in my daypack. I've got a filter case where I can store an SD-card, a battery and an ND-filter for smoothing up water or any motion. If I need more, I will use my X-T2 with a 35mm/1.4 for bokeh fotos. Unfortunately I sold my 12mm/f2 to get a heavy wide angle zoom from Fuji. That will leave soon.
My minimalist photo setup: Fuji XPro3 with 35mmf2 and two 64gb cards inside, one spare battery, two spare sd cards, sd cardreader for iphone, sometimes I take a 23mmf2 or even a 16mmf2.8 as well. I‘m looking to add a small point&shoot to the kit for analog photography soon. Transferring photos by sd cardreader is faster for me. Wireless is still a hassle on Fuji.
Deciding what to take or carry is so hard for me, but a DSLR rarely gets picked these days. I have several camera / lens variations, but all get edited with my Samsung S9 and Snapseed. Canon M10 + 22mm or 15-45mm zoom Canon M50 + 22mm or 15-45mm zoom Fuji XM-1 + 7 Artisans 25mm f2 or Canon FD 35mm Canon M + 22mm or Canon FD 35mm Canon G16 and Samsung S9 in camera mode
Nice video and setup! A few months ago I started using an action camera for b-roll and vlogging as well. I use it with a recorder and lapel microphone. It works nicely overall, but the Osmo Action has a weird sync issue when it splits the video into 4GB pieces, so I have to sync every piece to my audio track. Maybe once the GoPro 9 comes out I'll look into it to see if there is a similar issue on the GoPro side. The USB-OTG card reader is helpful too. I also have an older LG smartphone, lol.
I wish the Gopro had a tripod thread in the base instead of that loop mount. It would be a lot more compact when mounted on a hotshoe. I use a tiny hotshoe mount with my Sony RX0 and it's very minimal, but lacks stabilization.
I just changed my travel setup to something very similar. Same GR, a Contax TVS for film, and editing in Lightroom on a Galaxy Note 10+. I used to lug around a X-Pro 2, which is great, but not so great for the same reasons you mentioned in the video. Better to be smaller and inconspicuous.
Hey Samuel! I've always been meaning to ask you, when doing street photography in Germany, what are actually the laws? I'm currently in Berlin and I always have difficulties finding the official rules for doing street photography. Can you tell me where to look? Thanks!
I loved the end of the video :D Nice recommendations!! . About de options i´m agree whit you, many options can be a problem. I´m shoting now only whit my 28 mm and my 50mm in a Canon AE1, and i enjoy to much without the extra weight, and ,in the other hand, because it´s more easy for me be focused in the things that I interesting when i`m not thinking about equipment. Congratulations for your channel, I´m following one year ago and i´m learn many interesting things whit you brou. Sorry for my english :p
If the limitation of having a 28mm (full frame equiv) is not an issue for you then I would say yes! I have a Vlog from the trip I did where I filmed this video where you can see my hike with my GR (and also a Leica SL) and shot a lot of landscape photographs with the Ricoh (the video is linked in this video). Especially with the positive film filter you get very lovely colors in nature.
The best camera for traveling is the one that you have when traveling... It can be a smarphone or a point and shoot or even DSLR... So, whatever you have, let's travel and shoot... Cheers...
I got the 5L sling after watching your review on it, can still fit in my XH-1 with 2 len' if i need but often just using my Pentax Q7 and the len's for that are basically zero extra weight. Thinking of getting somthing like a GRIII still or the X100V, Cant decide aha.
Been trapped in Vietnam with my GR3 for 7 months due to covid19. Took the best photos of my life, not once did I think, oh I am missing a dslr or some lens.
This video is definitely making me want to get the Hero 8, but has anyone here tried the Osmo Pocket for these types of vlogs? Currently stuck between the two and would love some insight. Thanks!
6:10 Yes you "can" do export via Image Sync App but I have to say that the App is REALLY BAD😕 every time I try to import the app starts shaking and bug's a lot 😑
I think I'm seeing you gained some weight for not having chances to go out for corona-19?? Hope you to stay in healthy till the proper vaccine comes out!!

It's called choice paralysis, where you have so many options etc you don't end up using any.

You're fantastic! Thank you for sharing with us!
When a camera is old you can insert a film. If a smartphone is old you can insert the battery. 😂
Sad but true :D

So true. I use Fujifilm xf10 & dji Action osmo.
Love the minimalist setup. Updating gear every year is crippling
What a simplicity, love it. Just discovered your channel!
Love doing walk around videos with my Ricoh GR III and GoPro hero 7 black.
This is super helpful! Thanks for making this! I enjoy seeing other photographer's process for inspiration.
What GoPro settings are you using for such great low light quality? Do you not set the shutter to 1/60 when filming 4k? Maybe you keep it at auto?
Your potato vlogs sold me on the gopro! ✌🏼I love those minimalist setups, all you need is just a camera.
Does also works with iPhones. You just need the right adapter. Used it with Lightroom iOS and it works like a charm.
Wow, the GoPro footage is actually really good 😱
If you want to edit videos on the go on your phone try YouCut. Its free and has lots of features.
Samuel, love your videos. Quick question on the GR3 wireless upload/sync capability. Which application would you recommend for image sync/upload to iPhone? Thanks.
Ricoh's app "Image Sync"

Canon M + 22mm or Canon FD 35mm
Canon G16 and Samsung S9 in camera mode
that intro music is sublime
thanks a lot for the Snapseed!
Nice set up bro! 100% agree! The gopro definitely change up the game and makes the process of making a RUclips video so much easier.
Highly recommended the 5L peak design shoulder bag! Got one myself and love it
How does the Sony RX100 compare with the GR3? I'm planning to get one to do street photography and it can work as my blogging camera as well.
Great channel man. Ik got a d7100 and but usely a portphotography guy. In the city i use a small 18-55 lens.
Coole Sache, ich schaue gerne deine Videos an. RICOH sollte kontinuierlich die Zusammenarbeit mit dir intensivieren. Weiter so!
Man, this made me nostalgic for the old world and traveling. Also, you got some inside information on a Richo Gr IV?!
Yup! GR needs weather sealing
Good advices! Thank you. Now, nobody talks about Ricoh GR, very interesting video.
Nice setup 👍👌😀 that's all you need

GoPro very nice for traveling

Freedom is the absence of choice. Sufi saying

i love the GR but I'm always worried about taking it out in the rain because of the retractable lens!
All I shoot with is my Ricoh GR III, Fuji X100F, and my GoPro hero 7 black for video.
fine video...but as it was raining: is your gr III waterproof? /my fujix10v is waterproof!/. looking forward to your next youtube activities!!!
Thanks for this buddy. Very helpful. Have you had experience with the DJI osmo action?
LG G4 is super awesome
Excellent content and clarification on an useful and effective lightweight travel setup.
Thank u from South Korea
Thank you Sam. Im back bro! Im going out today. I never used Inshot .Im taking my bag I got from Peak design, You turned me on to it.
As always, great content!!!

Big up the G4! Decent camera on it and that speaker has to be one of the best on a phone.
great to see some travel videos again! definitely gonna try out InShot btw, been looking for something like that for ages
My first GoPro was the hero 4 was not impressed 😂. Now u make me want to get a GoPro.
The intro song. Very nice. It’s been a long time...
Would a ricoh do okay for a hiking camera, as an easy kind of “nature” shooting device? I’ve been curious about that camera for a while..

Travelling during COVID-19? *That* must be nice... lol. Great video brother!
Yeah... Europe my friend :D

cool! are you planning on making a video from your trip to Bulgaria?
I got the 5L sling after watching your review on it, can still fit in my XH-1 with 2 len' if i need but often just using my Pentax Q7 and the len's for that are basically zero extra weight. Thinking of getting somthing like a GRIII still or the X100V, Cant decide aha.
have you ever found dust in the GR camera lens? thx!
I think most phones today are the perfect street camera. And the most minimal. You don’t have to worry about sd cards or batteries either.
Look at that G4 😍.. It was my dream phone i couldn't afford 🤣
Bon trip en bulgarie !
Love it! What about your audio?
In was using a Rode Smart Lav mic with a Zoom H1 recorder. But when I vlog with my GoPro I just use the audio from the built in microphone.
cheers from Mexico carnal
Respect to you for still using an old LG phone .
If it ain't broke...
Been trapped in Vietnam with my GR3 for 7 months due to covid19. Took the best photos of my life, not once did I think, oh I am missing a dslr or some lens.

Snapseed really is the best, of they would just add that resizing feature like inshot then it would be perfect
What mount is that on your go pro?
is ricoh GR i still worth in 2020?
FINALLY
Amazon... uni USB c sd card reader, no CF card reader but sd and micro SD, much better solution than all the cables
What happened to your GR3??
It was being repaired by ricoh at that time. The back dial was glitching. Now it's back and I'm using the GRIII more :)
Samuel L. Streetlife I still prefer the grip on the GRII
Dope
That phone adapter is an OTG, on the go cable. Nice work!
Mit welcher Kamera ist der Clip gefilmt?
Habe hier die Leica SL benutzt.
hi samuel are you german+japanese mixed?
Yes!
This is your minimalist EDC for traveler set up
Really nice vid i started with making travel vids do you have any feedback?
LG G4 good enough for 2020 #itsofficial
😂 confirmed!!
6:10
Yes you "can" do export via Image Sync App but I have to say that the App is REALLY BAD😕 every time I try to import the app starts shaking and bug's a lot 😑
OMG this 1,000 times. It never worked on my Pentax K-S2 when I needed it. (I don't know about the GR III.) Useless app.
I was thinking to sell my GRIII. I just didnt find a place for it between M and Q. But this video maybe changed my mind about travel setup.
Tanel Tinnuri keep it
Tu es français ?
I think I'm seeing you gained some weight for not having chances to go out for corona-19?? Hope you to stay in healthy till the proper vaccine comes out!!
Its time to upgrade that potato phone Samuel. 😂
Haha. I can't do it!
And if you didn’t have to vlog, you’d leave the GoPro behind too.
Yes!
on vacation w/o your minolta? you're missing the point.
iOS users actually have more use with folders than android users natively now, problems with 5 year old tech
He uses 5 year old phone, so his a bit behind the schedule😆
to many options ? sketchbook an a pen...this brings real art
Street photography= no transportation to the countryside
