When I get a Tofu 60 I'm gonna try this. I did the lil O-ring burger mount on a Tofu 65 on all 6 standoffs and it's right where I want it to be. It's nice to be able to change the board so much with little modification.
@@mooshkeys I'm super new still and have a kbd67 lite coming soon, but you're "Tofu Good?" video definitely helped me pick my first board. I put ethereal pandas(to match colorway) in it and it's perfect for me.
Great Video, ive done the O ring mod on the standoffs since i have the Tofu65 and I dont have the side standoffs like yours. Cant say I noticed much of a difference but still wasnt really hard to try. Curious if you will be doing more switch reviews. I see that you are more of a linear fan than tactile but if you want to try a tactile out that I love (tactile gang) I mixed C3 kiwi housing with Boba U4T stems to make what I call Boba Fetts. About as tactile as the Zykos and imo a bit better sounding. I also love the colour of the switch, you could try it with C3 tangerines and a linear switch with similar size stem as the U4T/Pandas. That has the added benefit of getting rid of north facing interference with GMK keycaps.
Thank you! I have a decent amount of switches, and i will definitely do more switch reviews. I’m not a fan of frankenswitches but i have many tactile reviews to come.
Ima be your 99th sub. Keep going, my first custom kb is a tofu60, black ink v2s, and idobao blue cats. I’m trying to get into the hobby and was wondering about the foam, what in particular is good for that. I have some that did the trick but made my kb not type? Kinda confusing but I’ll get through it and you, keep up the good work.
Thank you! Any foam should work, just make sure to not put in too much. A thinner foam is usually wanted because you can fill up more space. there are special foams like sorbothane or neoprene too but i use craft foam and it works fine :)
Great video and you got a sub! Although I already built two solderable keyboards, I'm pretty new to doing mods. If I'm going to follow exactly what you did (same o-ring and standoffs) except that I'm using cherry clip-in stabilizers, then the only thing I need to do is to file the left/right pcb holes to make them larger? And can that be done by using sandpapers? Thanks in advance!
Hey I know it’s a old video but I hope you reply as it will really help me make a purchase decision, on a scale of 1-10 how close the sound and feel come to a bakeneko60
I've never tried the bakaneko, but I'd assume it's around a 6-7. They're technicallu the same mounting style, but the bakaneko isn't a modded version of a plate mount, so I'd assume it to be much for flexible and better sounding.
Quick question: What are the Dimensions of thee O-Ring, I can't seem to find any information regarding this or have no idea how and where to get it. I live in the Philippines so shipping is gonna be pain.
Hi, I’m wondering where else can I find these o rings? Cause I’m from South East Asia, I don’t know how to google the specific length for the Orings, the orings that I found are much smaller

Hello, would you recommend me to buy a Tofu60 or Psd60, I don’t know whether to overpay for Tofu or not, I am planning to buy a black case and Akko pbt neon (Gmail laser color) caps, do you think this is a good combination?
The PSD60 is practically the same board as the tofu. The only major differences is the branding and the shipping time (psd takes 1-2months). I think keycaps are best chosen by what you like the look of, so if you like them then they’re a good choice :)
@@mooshkeys Thank you, for the answer I will take a psd60 for myself, since I live in Russia and delivery with aliexpress is faster for me and which plate would you recommend? i think between polycarbonate and carbon
It’s just typing experience. I (and a lot of other people) prefer the feel of a board that flexes. I find it makes the key presses less blunt and hard. It’s all preference tho, and many prefer a stiff board like a fjell w/brass plate.
It should work with any other standard 60% layout tray mount pcb, plate, or case. I’m not sure if the tokyo60 will work, but it would probably not due to the hhkb layout and integrated plate.

How did you remove the PCB material? Also don't the standoff extenders make it so the PCB sits too high for the USB-C port to align with the case?

It's true, but they've done some messed up things. Do your research before deciding to support them.

can't you use the screws to extend the height of the stand off.

i dont get it, the tofu's middle standoffs are still there how did it flex? i mean isn't the pcb still sitting on the middle sstandoffs unscrewed?
the extenders are only placed on the side standoffs, making it so those two are extended and the rest aren't touching

Size of the oring, please? I have been thinking of the size of the o-ring for 1 month and still don't know which size should I get .

Since the Tofu doesn't use a daughterboard, are you worried about the usb port taking damage from the flexing?
There's enough leeway in the port hole of the case. I've used this mod for almost a year with no problems.

No. The standoffs aren’t on both sides.
But isnt the pcb loose in the Case ? Or am i Missing Something
It is, but the o-ring holds the pcb in with friction.
will a 50 hardness gasket work?
Yes. The hardness of the O-ring does not matter that much
