I work in a level 3C NICU in CA. We do everything from cooling, to bedside PDA ligations, GI surgeries, more than half our pts are on vents including oscilltators, and we get babies as young as 24 weekers. We just don't do ECMO or open heart but pretty much everything else.

How awesome! A lot of LEVEL 3 NICUS can do it all. It’s just the surgeries

@@TiffanyRNnicunursetiff I’ve only been in my NICU almost a year. I used to work with adults so I’m still learning so much right now during this transition. Hopefully once I get more experience I can go to a level 4 facility . Thank you for all your helpful videos !!

Hi Tiffany, I love your videos. I’m in my last semester of nursing school. Last semester I did my capstone in a level 4 NICU. I loved it. I was given a chance to start a position at the NICU. I’m worried that I’ll loose some of my skills. Would you suggest going straight into NICU??

Follow your heart and do what’s best for you. I went straight into Nicu and for me it was the best decision I made

I once worked with a nurse who used to do NICU for many many years and then decided to switch to Med Surg adult! He had no problems switching and I'm sure if you decided to change specialties the hospital would be more than happy to help you brush up on old skills. Nursing is so versatile, You can be doing OR for a while and decide to move to emergency the next.
