    Tabs of the scales are out for patrons - I also tabbed the first demonstration at 1:55 of the rockin’ sound and the sweeter sound!

    I love that you touched on the pickup switching. I caught onto that habit of his learning Too Hip Gotta Go and now it's a habit for me. Great lesson!

    Welcome to the concept of MODAL playing. You're just shifting between the two modes we know as Major and Minor.

    • @AdrianWhyte
      @AdrianWhyte  Год назад

      Playing major on major is not modal, playing minor pentatonic on major is not particularly modal either. Playing modally would be realigning the tonic of your harmony entirely and generally relies beyond pentatonic playing to explore the modal tones.

    • @Turboy65
      @Turboy65 Год назад

      @@AdrianWhyte If you're switching between playing major and minor over the same rhythm, that IS modal playing by its very definition.

    • @AdrianWhyte
      @AdrianWhyte  Год назад

      Look man, I don’t mean to be rude and you’re not entirely wrong, but you clearly have a limited understanding of modes as what you’re describing is just one aspect of modal playing. Yes you can shift to various modes over one chord type or change tonality, but modal playing also heavily involved composition around different tonal centres in the one key. As you probably know. So what you’re talking about is shifting from a major tonality to a minor tonality over one chord or harmonic key centre, but I’m saying it doesn’t exactly fit into aeolian or Dorian. The contemporary use of minor pentatonic over major chords for example hardly qualifies as modal playing, it’s almost a law unto itself.

    Its not just changing from minor pentatonic to major pentatonic, its also the phrasing! When he switches to the middle position he starts to play in a more swingly (is that a word?) style. The bridge pickup solos are more straight forward rocking.

      I like 10-46, 11-49 or even 10-50. It’s really a personal preference and you kinda need to try different guages and see what works - hope that helps and sorry for the delay!
