Not just one of the most beautiful voices in the history of vocal music, but inarguably one ot the most technically brilliant and acomplished vocalists in the history of music. After the personal horror that her life had become, to see her gloriously and triumphantly back on stage, especially so MASSIVE a stage, makes my heart soar while the tears flow unashamedly. And as she ALWAYS does, she gave it her all. In a ceremony otherwise marred by controversy, this transcended it all and was, for me, the highest point.

you may like her music or not, but everyone agrees that she is one of the top singers of this generation. Celine is beloved all over the world for her talent but also because she is down to Earth and doesn't take herself too seriously. When she revealed her condition two years ago, everyone was upset and sad over it... and her documentary last month did the same, so to perform in France, in her native language, one of the best french love songs of all time to boot, it was obvious what the reaction would be.

The thing about Celine performing at these Paris Olympics is that France is all about passion, freedom, and emotion --my mother's folks came over in the 1500s as Canadian pioneers, and there's always been this strong, very strong understanding of the depth of soul involved in motivation to strive for success. The French Olympic Committee couldn't have planned anything more memorable to kick off this celebration in front of iconic Eiffel Tower, to involve people with kind hearts, passion, and competitions among such talented people at the peak of their skill levels.

But I can sometimes get a bit jaded, especially when it comes to these grand extravaganzas. And though I've always appreciated Celine's voice, I was never a fan of much of her repertoire. But this performance was something else entirely. No jade. Three days later I still haven't gotten over it. I get all misty eyed... every time! Her health issues (which are substantial) evaporated from everyone's minds when she started to sing. She was utterly magnificent. It will go down in history. I bawled my eyes out! I have loved Céline since the early 90s, when I was in middle school and really developing my own singing voice. Was blessed enough to go to one of the last concerts in 2020, right before the lockdown and before she had to cancel the rest of her tour. You would have never known there was anything wrong with her, she was so incredible and vibrant. I was brokenhearted to hear about her diagnosis, but this performance shows why she has always been my favorite female vocalist of all time.

It hurts me to say that this version surpasses the Edith Piaf version which we had at home on a 45 rpm. I'm talking about early 60s. On my will, it says... "Dans le ciel, plus de problèmes." In heaven, no more problems.

And continues with "mon amour, crois-tu qu'on s'aime? Dans le ciel plus de problèmes, Dieux réuni ceux qui s'aiment". If you lost a beloved one you fell in tears 😭😭😭.

You are not the only one who reacted like this . I watched her performance live. An amazing lady , we have ! If you look at her. I am positive, singing this song, she was thinking of her late husband. And she was sure, he was looking at her from above, and he would have applauded her . That is why you see tears in her eyes.

I watch videos of vocal coaches or other singers analysing Céline Dion's performance of Edith pIaf's Hymne à l'amour, and it seems that the emotion is such that even if you're not French and don't understand the words, Céline's interpretation and the music create emotion beyond borders!
Edith Piaf is one of the greatest French singers and from her birth to her death, this woman experienced a lot of suffering, so you really have to have in mind the translation of this song and Céline's modern interpretation to understand that the fusion of the two is perfect and that the emotion is at the Zenith!
Greetings from France with the link to the original video of this song! ruclips.net/video/sgBldNsK-xw/видео.html 💙🤍❤

The legendary Edith Piaf wrote this lyrics after her lover has died in a plane crash. He was going to see her and after she started to experience health issues and never recovered from that experience
