I have also stripped mine 🤦♂️ but I didn’t have the parking brake on, not sure what happened really… thankfully it was tight enough when it happened. What did you end up doing?
Thanks for the great simple and clear video. If you have a stripped bolt, you can pull the good one off the other side and use it temporarily. I put a magnet on the allen wrench to help pull it out.
Allens strip when using the correct size, do not use the 5/32 you will destroy it. It's 4mm and it cost $2, if you don't have the right tool don't touch it.
Shortly after adjusting the piston it goes out of adjustment on my 99 NB. (I set the parking brake so it holds with 4 to 5 clicks) After about 2 weeks the parking brake takes 8 to 10 clicks to hold. What can I do to keep it from changing? My old NB did the same thing
When the rear callipers don’t hold adjustment, it often means that there is an internal problem. Could be from someone forcing the piston in without backing off the adjuster screw. I usually replace the callipers if this is happening.
Did the rear brakes on my daughter's 1994 NA. Driver's side would not adjust properly and kept rubbing. Piston seemed to be moving but once I pulled the adjuster out, it was indeed stripped - had to use a magnet to pull it out. It seems to me that even if I replace adjuster, all the bits off of the metal teeth from the stripped adjuster are still in there - so even it it's not seized, I need to replace the entire caliper. Opinion?
@@MiataMan yeah, I figured that's the safest bet. Went to Autozone and bought the caliper and it does not have the adjustment pin in it... Seems like it's supposed to be included but they're saying not. What a hassle. Great video - keep up the good work.
I have a caliper that keeps adjusting itself tighter. This is the second one and still tightening. Adjustment screw is working with Allen key as it should.
when reinstalling the adjusters, what are you looking for to know they are adjusted properly? I would assume counting turns until they are remove, or is it a visual check with the pad and the rotor?

So about 2 times i moved the car a out of the driveway with the Ebrake on and than now it doesnt work will i need to replace the caliper or the just the adjuster bolt?
@@MiataMan thanks for the reply over the weekend I follow your guidance and my adjuster bolts are stripped. Rear brakes still work fine but the e-brake doesn't. Taking it to a specialist Miata mechanic to put the bolts in and inspect caliper. I highly recommend SNS Mazda in Greenville SC for anyone who is around they have saved me multiple times.
The 14mm bolt to get to that adjuster is stripped does that mean i need a new caliper if it wont come off? I tried pb blaster for 2 hours nd then i bought these stripped bolt sockets and still nothing...
Just stripped mine like an idiot because I forgot to take off my parking break🤦♂️. So glad I watched this video. Great content!

Kicking ass and taking names! Thank you for the content. You've got "The Voice".
Thanks 😊
I just did my rear brakes. Where to set them were all over the place so I just did 1/2 turn from bottomed out.

thank you miata man love ya , Monsterz Garage .
What about when you adjust it but gets lose again? Is that just the screw or you have to rebuild it?
This was totally helpful. Thanks

It sounds like a new calliper is needed 👍

Mines leaking from the adjuster. Is there a seal inside that went bad, causing it to leak? Could a new copper washer be in order?
The well that the adjuster sits in should not have brake fluid leaking from it. You should replace the calliper.
@@MiataMan Same leak on one side for me and the adjust just spins without moving the piston. I'm replacing the caliper.

Time for a new calliper.
@@MiataMan Tough to keep replacing new calipers. Maybe 3rd one will be the charm.
@@danlafon3265did it work?

I bought a brand new caliper and tried to adjust that screw but it’s not doing anything??
I’ve had that happen to me before.
Sometimes, the remanufactured callipers don’t go through quality control.
Can rebulid the inside for the caliper ?
I would just buy some re-manufactured ones. Centric or AC Delco offers them.
Of the two brands, I find Centric to be better quality.
So how do you rebuild that mechanism?
I don’t. I buy a remanufactured one and turn the faulty one in as a core.

If the callipers are not holding an adjustment for very long, you will have to replace them.
It could be that the internal gears are damaged.

@miataman my 2016 rear brakes rattle over bumps until I apply brake pressure. Would that be the cause? Nothing else visually in the region is loose
It's possible your brake caliper pins aren't clean or greased enough to allow the caliper to move freely. High temp brake grease only.

What year is the miata for that caliper?
It was a 1999 calliper if I remember correctly. However, all Miatas from 1990-2005 have the same adjustment barrel on the rear callipers.
Can I drive without adjuster screw if I lost it?
Yes, as long as the 14mm bolt and copper crush washer are installed.
You could loose brake fluid otherwise.
You should definitely install a new adjuster screw asap though.
Is there a rubber seal inside?
When I turn my adjuster the calliper isn’t moving
Sounds like you have a seized calliper.
What happens when nut gets stripped :/
When the adjuster bolt gets stripped, it usually means that the calliper is seized up and will need to be replaced.
