  • Today we're also looking at the best places to live in Dublin. For this first episode we start in Dublin 7, on the North side of Dublin. It's relatively close to the city centre. An example is Smithfield has its own Luas stop on the Red Line and it's about a five minute walk to Henry Street.

    Great video guys. I learn new stuff with each of your vids.
    I'm from Marino originally and had never heard of Blessington Basin until on a visit to Dublin a few years ago, I noticed it on Google maps and investigated it. Like you I was blown away by this oasis as I was born and raised not too far away and had never heard any mention of it. None of my family member knew about it either!
    In the sixties when I was growing up, Grangegorman was known as a mental institution. There were lots of comments like 'that kid belongs in Grangegorman', or 'he must have escaped from GG' etc. It was part of Dublin lore.

      Oh that's interesting. I love that they're these little surprises even if you grew up in the place. It's similar to Barbados, my mom was saying that she met some visitors to the island that regretted not bringing hiking shoes because there's so many little areas you go walking. People only started realising this looking for outdoorsy stuff to do during lockdowns. It's unlocked areas that people didn't know about.

    Think of Dublin 7 as it's own city within Dublin. I grew up there and live in Sligo now so was a fascinating video to watch how much has changed and hasn't. Yes Phibsborough is and always kinda magical. Great vid guys.

    Broadstone was famous for Railways, Canals, Work Houses and Mental Hospitals. Phisbourgh was famous for Soccer (Still is Bohemian FC), Canals, Industry and Prisons.

    there are suburban communities that are growing right now in dublin, places such as tallaght, sandyford, ballynum are among the modern district in dublin that you can find right now unlike the cramped streets in greater dublin those places have open spaces that are still undergoing development and the roads are wider too which will eventually become the center of modern district in dublin years from now.

    Thank you for all the tips so far! J am moving from Grenada (Run's neighbour hehe) to Dublin this summer and the whole housing crisis is bringing me a lot of anxiety on how to find a place being so fa, specially because my 2 cats are moving with me. And detail, before living in the West Indies I was living in Austria, Wine's homeland 😂

      My suggestion: arrive and stay in temporary accommodation and then when you’re in Dublin, look for a place. 😊

      I lived in Dublin for 7 years. Yes, it is not a safe city if you compare with other European capitals. Some areas are better than others, but get ready to see a good amount of junkies doing drugs and teenagers messing around ALL DAY and EVERYWHERE. Smithfield (the area that the video describes) is good during the day but keep an eye at night or if you see groups of teenagers around.

    I am middle eastern living in Sweden and I hate it. People are not social and lonely, can speak to strangers only when drunk and you never make friends. I am planning to move to Ireland and not sure if people are also not social? I am thinking about Dublin because I like cities with stuff happening all the time and places to go. How can I reach people living there to hear from them?

      Hi. Where are you from??

    • @WineAndRum
      @WineAndRum  2 года назад +2

      The biggest community we've seen are Facebook groups if you search for expats in dublin for example. I think people could be more social. Most people may have their first friend through the workmates depending on the job. Others you might just meet at events or from social media.
