The current flat we're living in is about 20 years old, as has double glazed windows, but the previous place was a period house. We would say that a lot of the housing stock in central Dublin is much older than 30 years, especially within the circular roads and Dublin canals.
Thanks interesting vid. Im a Dub living in London. Love my hometown of course but definitely prefer London. So much more vibrant and exciting. Dublin is friendly nicely compact and great for a visit. But its so expensive,, the transport is a joke and housing situation although not great in London is still not as bad as in Dublin. All in all they are two great cities in their own right.
Well UK is much more jobs and actually u can find a place to live. In Ireland is no places to rent due to extreme housing crisis and job market in UK is way more better than Irish job market
Yeah definitely, the UK offers more jobs, and London itself... double the population of Ireland. Dublin lacks the affordable housing. There are places to rent if you've got the money for it, but for the average person, definitely out of reach. I can't remember what we said in this video, but for us Dublin offered less competition in the job market so it was a bit easier (back then), than London for us.
@@WineAndRum really ? You must be working in specific area then. Is much easier for me to get job in UK like 100 time easier. Hire in Ireland after graduation I found myself unemployed regardless university degree. In UK I found job in management sector in a days. Then housing hire in Ireland was like 8 rental house advertising in a month in England 900 in a month
Time has passed, but the housing crisis isn't going anywhere, it seems. My husband and I were going to move to Dublin, but after seeing so many negative comments about unavailability of rentals, we decided to opt for London instead. We think London will be even cheaper in terms of living costs that Dublin, at the same time London is much more interesting and has a lot more job prospects.
Hello dear couple i hope you guys are doing well My dream is to come Ireland and settle over there, Right now I am in Portugal and holder of an portuguese temporary residence permit, now I am thinking to go and visit Ireland and to work over there, I done a little bit research, which i have found that i can exchange my portuguese temporary residence permit in to Irish, can you please explain if you know how can I do that after arriving in Ireland
I still hesitate, these two cities are both very rich of culture and interesting. I'm seduce by the friendly people and the warm pubs in Dublin but or course London is huge, convenient services 24h and so many things to discover. Its a shame that the house prices are completely indescent for a young woman like me. I need to find a good deal and to experiment both to make my own opinion. Thanks for the video
No problem. Housing is definitely the challenge. Without owning a car we found London to be easier to find and discover new towns... or maybe as students there was just more free time to do whatever 😅
Just passing by and seeing this random YT recommendation. It must be difficult to come here to Ireland as an immigrant in the best of times, but during a global pandemic?! Best of luck to weather the storm, and stay safe...
Thanks for the wishes of luck! We've been here for nearly 4 years so it's not so bad. But if we had to do it now, we would definitely see if we could delay it, it's a stressful thing to do unless you're very prepared.
No double glassed housing in Kingston upon Thames?! Almost every house in the eastern boroughs has it ( if not haggle over the price / rent, esp. if no roof insulation/walls filled in). Is the council tax cheaper over the border in Surrey? Move across town/out of town ( monthly 2 bedroom house rent in eastern London suburb is £769 plus council pax,or , another accessible area, convince your friends to move too ( have they moved with you to Dublin?). Did you study economics ( by the hoodie looks like you're into IT/tech - great- you're probably in Barbados now in a lengthy visa for digital nomads)?
It's been 5 years now since we lived in Kingston so memory is a bit foggy. 😅 But had we stayed in the UK, we would have moved out of Kingston to somewhere else that's accessible but not as expensive. We're still in Dublin. The Barbados Welcome stamp is appealing. We may want to try out the lifestyle in future, but not right now. Most of our friends from uni actually moved back to their home countries after uni. You guessed right, we're both working in tech.
I think you would find more jobs in London just because of the sheer size of London. It's about 8 times bigger in population than Dublin so there should be more out there. But I don't think there will be a shortage of tech jobs in either location yet.
Dublin is better then London by far ! The food is amazing and the pubs are definitely better for music and the craic! And the Irish are so much more friendly and smile a lot .Irish men and women are very open and honest good people !

This is so informative. Thank you for this video. I love to see both countries in the future.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I don’t think Dublin is in the same league as London which is a world class top 3 cities along with New York City and Tokyo.
Definitely not comparable as being a world class city. But as one of the two main English speaking cities in Europe, Dublin's gotta go on the list.
It depends how you define "world class".
Give me Dublin any day.
London is overrated 👌💯
Thank u for this! I'm emigrating from the USA to either Ireland or the UK and trying to decide between them. I appreciate this vid.
Glad we were able to offer some insight to help with the decision
UK!

Ireland, just because it's Ireland plus you get a bit easier time visiting other EU countries.
I think you must be living in very old houses in Dublin because every house build in the last 30 or so years will have double glassed windows

What about tech jobs? Is it easier to find a computer science related job in London than Dublin or is it the same in both places?
Btw I was planning to move to Ireland for my undergraduate degree in Computer Science, I might choose to study at GMIT, Ireland

Kingston use to be in the county of Surrey. And then moved into greater London. Like Croydon.
That makes sense. When we first arrived there, I wondered why an area so 'far out' was being labelled as London.
That Greenwich ferry was cool :)
It's been a good few years since visiting Greenwich, that was a lovely day trip.

Agreed. Arguably life is better where you get paid more.
Ireland is European hub off Europe for work anyway. UK out off Europe. Easy choice
