We are headed on this same tour but starting in Zurich. This video was one of the best I've seen for giving me the real experience of the tours and life on the boat. I feel better prepared now. Thanks!

I was wondering if you could answer a couple of questions regarding your Paris to Zurich trip through Viking. We are going in Octobber 2024. I have joined facebook groups but thought I just ask you since I saw your video on RUclips. Here are the questions:
Did you exchange currency when your arrived in Paris? Did you do this at a bank? if so, could you recommend how much we should get? Did you use euros when going to cafes, local shops and pubs? Did you use Uber or taxis at all or even public transporation? When on walking tours, did the guide use a quietvoxe to talk to the group and did they supply you with a headset? Are there hangers in the closets in the rooms? and last question, are the walls in the rooms metal to use magnetic hooks? We went on an ocean cruise and were able to use the magnets on the walls.

      Of course we can help!
      • We did exchange currency. We exchanged in our connecting airport (Atlanta), and if I remember correctly, we exchanged about $200-250. However, we found that most places on all of the stops for Paris to the Swiss Alps took debit/credit cards. However, we did use the euros at smaller cafes and food stands/Christmas markets, but even most of those accepted debit/credit cards.
      • During this cruise we didn't use any Ubers, taxis, or public transportation. We relied solely on the busses and shuttles Viking provided. However, in Basel, on another trip with Viking, we used the public transport system, and the Viking rep at our hotel walked us through every step of that process, so it wasn't daunting.
      • They do use quietvoxes for walking tours, and Viking does provide you with a headset. It's a one-ear headphone, so if you want two-ears I'd recommend using your own.
      • There are plenty of hangers in the closets, but if you need more, you can definitely ask the front desk personnel on the ship. They're very accommodating!
      • I'm not 100% sure on the magnets, but I don't believe the walls are metal.
Hopefully that answered everything, and if you have anymore questions, don't hesitate to ask!

We are also thinking of doing this trip in October and possibly a two day pre-extension in Paris. I need to figure out what the weather will be like that time of year.

@@juliegriffin6795 We went in November, and we definitely needed our big coat a few times, so I imagine October isn't too much different. I would definitely suggest layers!

We are going on this cruise, Paris to Zurich, then a side trip to Zermatt, in late Mr h 2025. My big question has to do with weather and what type clothing and outerwear are recommended.
This will be our 3rd Viking cruise having already done the Grand European and an ocean cruise

On average you are likely going to experience temperatures in the 40s and 50s with a slight chance of rain in some places. It’s not a bad idea to bring light layers because you’ll be walking around a lot so wearing anything to warm or heavy for the 40 degree temperature may eventually become uncomfortable. Hope that helps and have an amazing time!!

Wonderful and helpful video. A couple of questions. I noticed a lot of masks. Are they still required at many places? We cruised with Viking in the Netherlands in April 23 and I didn't see any. I want to be prepared. Also, how much time did you spend in your room? We are debating going to the Standard room (one small window) to have more $ for excursions. (On the Tulips & Windmills tour we cruised a lot at night and were often parked against other ships.) Will I miss seeing the view? Thanks!

Thank you so much for watching! This trip was taken in 2022, so some people still chose to wear masks. However, we didn’t encounter any mask requirements. As for the room, we didn’t spend much time in the room at all. We spent most of our time off the ship or in the common areas onboard. If you’re concerned about the view, just remember that you do have access to the various common areas onboard where the views are amazing! We would recommend putting your extra money toward shore excursions because those memories and experiences will last a lifetime! Have a great time!

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! We love how diverse the content across RUclips is, especially in the travel niche. There are videos to fit everyone's tastes and preferences, and this one was obviously not the ideal one for you. You can even make videos of your own for people who may prefer the same things as you! Such a great way to build a community and share your travels.
