    Thanks for putting this video up. My 2006 Golf had it's roof-lining replaced in 2013 at a cost of $1350. Now another 7 years later it's just started to droop a little bit again. We live in a remote area now so this time I'll have a crack at doing it myself after watching your video.

      Thanks for your comment, If it's been recovered in new material, new foam 7 years ago, I'd imagine the foam is still good, and it would just be the glue giving way. So maybe you could get away with peeling fabric back and adding in more glue to restick. 👍

      That's expensive! Not sure way but I see a lot of VAG cars with this issue, Golf, A3 Leon, Ibiza, Octavia's etc but not on older models.
      Today I noticed I had this problem In my 2009 Citröen and need to see how I will fix it.

    • @MrPropanePete
      @MrPropanePete Год назад +1

      @@TheAllMightyGodofCod Changed my mind. Rather than do it myself I took it to a local upholsterer who also does cars and boats. He did a beautiful job, perfect material match, and also fixed the interior dome light and sunvisor light. All for just $605 AUD, which is about $395 USD. He said most cars built since about the year 2000 can end up with droopy head linings, it's not just the VAG range. He did an Aston Martin recently.

    Thanks for the video. I changed the headliner on a Golf this week. The video made it easy. The @$%%$^^ nuts that hold the headliner on are really bad design. I was having trouble getting the screws in, in the end I expoxied the nuts so they would not move around, and the screws went straight in. This is the one big hassle with this job.

    • @ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs
      @ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs  4 года назад +7

      Thanks for your comment, removing and reinstalling the plastics on Golf's, Jetta's etc can get time consuming and difficult. If the screws are carefully removed and the metal brackets inside the roof stay intact, I'd then usually leave them alone, making sure that metal rectangular nut stays seated. Then when reinstalling the sun visors, grab handles I'd carefully screw them back into place, using some CRC spray to make screws glide in easier.
      Or you can reassemble the metal brackets & plastic spacer to the headliner board prior to reinstall, then push them up into location. However I found this to be more difficult to accomplish.

      We currently remove and reinstall headliners with just one person.
      Tips on removal/install stage:
      Have front seats fully reclined and pushed back. Remove/reinstall headliner board from front passenger door or rear drivers side door carefully. Apply slight bow/flex if required to keep it away from dragging on other interior surfaces. Hatch/wagon obviously is all done from rear tailgate. Keep in mind, most Volkswagens are difficult and time consuming headliners to do.

    This might sound like a silly question but I wanna know cos I’ll like to repair my car. How do I match the color of my headliner to the oem headliner and make sure it’s the game color. If so where can I get the right kind of fabric and how big should the fabric be?

    • @ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs
      @ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs  4 года назад +3

      We can sell the fabric and post around Australia.
      Usually the fabrics for headliners cost around $13 to $45 per meter.
      To match to your orginal fabric, best to go in to one of the Upholstery/motor trim shops in your local area and match it up.
      We always stocked exact matchs or closest available match to the orginal roof lining fabrics seen on all the common makes and models.
      If its a VW roofliner your talking about, they came out in two options, black anthracite charcoal head liner fabric, or the Light grey headlining fabric.

      So we usually flex the headliner board away from the front, and middle pillars then slide the board forward and away from the rear. However, back rear plastic panel needs to come off I recall to remove the headliner board.
      Keep in mind, We may be more experienced than the viewer of this material, and taking off the plastic pillars may suit the viewer better.

    • @ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs
      @ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs  3 года назад +3

      Thanks for your comment, So the VW Jetta is a long headliner board, and has very little flexibility to it making it difficult to remove.
      However, we never remove the windshield, so for this one recline the two front seats back, and either slowly carefully remove the headliner board out the front passenger door, or rear drivers side door.
      It's a very difficult job to do, one we give ourselves approximately 6 hours to do.

    I've seen videos with people who do it themselves and the glue they use is not really appropriate for the job. I rang a guy who is a professional like yourself who said he had a young guy do it himself using the 3m glue which is not heat tolerant. The inside of a car can get really hot so the lining fell down after a week. Best to leave it to the professionals.

      As long as the old material is not reused, and the old has been sanded away, then adding the correct glue to a cleaned board and new foam backed headliner fabric will get the job done.
      All these steps are outlined in our eBook Headlining Secrets.
      And we don't sell the glue, but suggest to use one of these glues

      @ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs  2 года назад +1

      Great question,
      We never reuse the old fabric/foam. And dont offer that service.
      Just full Replacement with new foam/fabric and new glue.
      If it was previously recovered in new material, then repair can be accomplished.
      Fabric may only be sagging in a few places & still neat, but if it previously hasn't been recovered,
      Adding glue to the existing factory material wont work, looks messy, it will leave a visable stain due to glue hitting raw fabric. Over time the foam backing on the fabric crumbles away making it un-stick & causing the fabric to fall down. To fix the sagging issue professionally, the Foam/Fabric needs to be replaced.

      It's a Golf, practically the same thing removing the sunroof control panel, lights, handles, etc. With the Golf, you can pull the headliner out the rear hatch. I have no idea how you'd get it out of a sedan.

    My 09 CC's liner is awful. I used some solid glue that holds it up but still looks awful. It's an old car to poor money into so professional job not it for me

    Why this things Always happen for VW?

    • @ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs
      @ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs  4 года назад +2

      Over time the foam backing on the fabric crumbles away making it un-stick & causing the fabric to fall down. To fix the sagging issue professionally, the Foam/Fabric needs to be replaced.

    Why Volkswagen didn't fix this? Its been a problem for generations, once a vw golf becomes 10 years old the roof falls and becomes saggy, I've never witnessed this happening on asian or french cars that use cheaper materials

    • @ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs
      @ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs  20 дней назад

      Sagging issues don't usually happen on felt headliners, commonly seen on Japanese cars.
      Sagging roof linings is either just bad foam products used by car manufacturers, or unfortunately, just aged foam and not a preventable outcome

    so you just replaced it with a new headliner

    • @ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs
      @ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs  4 года назад +4

      Yep, so the process was to remove the headliner board, and recover in new foam and fabric then reinstall the headliner board back into the car.
      We always recover using new material. The sagging problem usually starts of in very small sections, but this is also an indicator that the problem will soon spread until the whole ceiling becomes an unsightly baggy nuisance. Over time the foam backing on the Valour headlining material crumbles away making it un-stick & fall away from the roof lining board causing the fabric to fall down, once this has happened the material needs to be replaced.
