This young 22/23 yr old is quite amazing. This is the beginning of a career worth watching. This young actor will go far, I believe. Really enjoying this drama, very good cast, makes a great watch.

Once again we're just made for this movie she is perfect for her part and he is just a walking sexy lollipop I like the sternness I like the well I just like everything about him oh my gosh. When he was doing the sword workout he had me drooling. Excellent job wonderful series good job

I watched the premiere, so not sure exactly when it occurs, (I think fairly early on), but there are two heavily implied sexual assaults of brothel workers and a death. The assaults are basically fade to black, but it does show the women being grabbed/held down and their bruised/bloody/beaten aftermath. It starts when she is called to visit Quionzhong (sp?), and ends once the duke is on camera again. Hope this helps anyone who is triggered by such violence. Take care and good health to you.
I would like for the audiences to look beyond the romance and good looking actors ( it's hard, i know, i myself have a hard time no being distracted by Duke Su charisma) and look at the government officials, and the wealthy families and how they manipulate everything for their selfish, selfcenter benefits leaving the people suffer so much. Well thats the kind of system we all have still today. No common everyday people around the world have it fair.
It’s so true and injustice like this still happens in communist party run China today. Most of these drama have to use all sorts of metaphors to misdirect and cover up the malice that still exists in society, or they risk being censored.
I don't agree with you! Chinese people are much happier than other countries, in Canada we have lots of news,about shooting ,steal the cars, teenagers are missing poor people more and more go to the food bank.! It is a rich country before. @@SCBlahBLah

After the present leader stepped in, a campaign against corruption within the commmunist party was waged, with thousands of ranking officials punished for bribery, money laundering, misuse of funds, etc. It’s much cleaner today than 20-30 years ago. Many corrupt officials escaped to the US, but their government refused to extradict the criminals back to China.
congrats to all the actors in this drama. WANG XINGYUE was the second MALE LEAD in STORY OF KUNNING PALACE. he's a good actor though he is only 23y/o. Am a fan of JOE CHEN(the evil stepmother), she used to be the female lead when she was younger, but she's a very versatile actress for pulling off her character in this drama, so despicable and bad to the core. All in all, this DRAMA IS WORTH WATCHING, CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT EPISODES. Watched 31 episodes already and SO EXCITED FOR THE NEXT N THE NEXT...
Warning there are sexual assaults in this drama so skip over if it is too violent/emotional to handle. My heart hurt for both victims and especially the one that died. She has had such a miserable life since being taken by the brothel and the man she loved (Xue Zhao, brother of our female lead) was murdered so she welcomed death to be reunited with him. Xue Fangfei/(duke Su calls her A li) Jiangli has found out her father (Xue Huaiyuan) is still alive but will soon be executed. As usual we are left hanging for next episode.
Ironically, in real, the actors playing JiangLi's maternal uncle and aunt are both younger than the actress playing their daughter and JiangLi's cousin
lol you know, Asian drama. Characters are always in denial for as long the episodes can go before they admit their feelings. Slow burn is better than a wildfire 😊
Both are seeking revenge for their families. Until their goals are met, they are both doing slow burns and not about to shift priorities to romance just yet. The happy ending will come later.
His character here is totally different from the rigid, shy, reserved, taciturn bureaucrate Zhang Zhe in SOTKP. As in Zhang Zhe would have found a provocative and arrogant and eccentric character like Duke Su off putting.
As a family, they are. Princess Wanning is the worst person in this drama since she is insane as well as evil. The father and eldest son of the Li family are as bad as it gets in a family and that magistrate Feng Yutang and the guys with him provoked such a hatred when they assaulted Cuizhu and her sister Qiongzhi (who died as a result). He seems on the same level as the Li family. None of them are insane they are just evil. My heart broke for the sisters in the brothel and I had to remind myself this is just a drama and not reality. I guess this drama has plenty of evil people in it but you are right about the evil Li family.
Good plot and all actors acts well. I was here seeing the second male and female lead from the story of kunning palace. But somehow i feel the female lead has a very plain and inexpressive face. Yes she looks pretty. But acting skill for this character is below average
Maybe this is not the kind of series u like, please look for a series u are interested in because this series is too nice and interesting and it teaches us to be brave and courageous and never lose hope no matter what happens to u. Please if u don't like it watch a different movie

it's not too unrealistic, she grew up with it (her father was an official), so she gained insight through that since she was a kid, they showed early on that she was very knowledgable and learned things, she just didn't go to an academy in her 'first life' since it wasn't a classical woman role and they saved up so her husband could go and now that she has such a high rank in her '2. life' she can easily intimidate lower ranking officials
