    Just in case someone hasn't mentioned it yet, the bypass on the back of the head is to give the hot coolant back there a way out. It is returned to the lower radiator hose housing because that is the suction side.

    As much as a shiny new paint job is...leaving a nice patina on an older truck just lends the ride more character.

    • @matthewcasey5059
      @matthewcasey5059 Год назад +9

      Especially since those old truck bodies are old and crunchy like that. To get them back to a point where you’d want to spend the money on a paint job you’d be spending stupid money to get the metal right then you’d be afraid to drive them!

    Gotta love a Cummins man, especially when it's so nice and clean like that. Looks right at home in the bay of that Silverado Rich! Nothing wrong with using the tools you have to get the job done. Lots of folks could benefit from a CNC plasma table or a Flowjet but affording one is another story. Just having a Bridgeport/ lathe is so useful alone, with countless fab projects possible. One step closer to having this truck done. Thanks for the update on this project. 👍👍

    I disagree with the comments, I like the patina look of the old Fifties Truck. I think it looks great, I wouldn't paint it. I'm with you on this one, Rich. btw I'm quite impressed with what you guys accomplish in that shop of yours with limited high end tools. You do epic builds so I don't know what folks are whining about. So keep your chins up! and keep putting out great projects. We love it, we really do.

    An old truck with faded/rusty patina looks fantastic IMO (as long as it’s surface rust and not holes or Swiss cheese panels).
    You’re far more likely to drive/use something that isn’t perfect because getting a dent or scratch here and there isn’t going to ruin your day.
    So many guys spend tens of thousands making a car absolutely perfect, and then end up just staring at it collecting dust in the garage for fear of messing it up. I think the C10 is awesome just the way it is, turquoise/powder blue looks fantastic with the orange/brown of the rust.

    I had an argument with someone on YT about using different Manufacturers to build a vehicle. Don't remember exactly what but more than likely an LS in a Fox body. Anyway, watching you build this and the 350 just reinforces some of the recipes in my nugget. (Broke and broken Vet so that's all they'll ever be) For a work Truck it's pretty simple but probably overkill for what I need. Take an old Cuccv, drop in a MILD 12V with a 4500, and the interior, at least the seats, from a King Ranch. It'd be dead nuts reliable and pull anything you could possibly need.

    Great build, my fave behind the F Tree Kitty. 🤔 I'm gonna say I disagree with the coolant bypass addition. I could be wrong, but if you measure the actual water temps at the front of the engine where it just came out the radiator and took another reading near the back of the block, you'd see not much temperature delta at all. The more water flow you have, the less delta you will see, and that's why I think it's unnecessary because the mechanical water pump on just about any engine is very high flowing. I think you'd be surprised at how close the temps are at the different positions. It would be cool to see it tested.
