Good evening Cindy , thank for your advice to stay positive, I will try my best to just do what I can and not stress about the cement blocks still not done at the back of my house. I have to do the surgery on my knee because it is too painful these days, then I will start again .. I hope your back will heal very soon. Greetings Namibia. 😅❤
Hi Cindy, I love the fact that you have the power of yeti lol i know that you're struggle with your health but i also know that you're a very capable, intelligent, strong woman who will when you're ready to; make the decisions as to when it's all to much for you. If i was closer I'd help you anyway I could. I think it's important to have the courage to follow you're dreams. To many of us work 12 hour shifts, in jobs we hate, for bosses and business owners that don't give a shite about us and we the older generation Cindy are conscientious workers. We do our very best . And very often are not recognised or any better thought of for being that. Actually I fell used because the willing dog gets all the work. And when you stand up and speak out, your the baddie. There is nothing wrong with asking for help! If Nick ect are willing to help you when you're struggling and they come and help (which Nick does i see from other Portuguese settlers videos lol) he wouldn't do it if he didn't want to or was to buisy himself. I think Nick and your other volunteers will get good Karma from what they're doing for others and will be helped by the younger generation when his time comes when he's getting old and needs support. I for one are so proud of your achievements Cindy. Maybe somethings are not to everyones taste or style, or how they would do things but you're doing it as best you can and afford. Anyway rest my friend when you need to rest, feed your animals and never mind all the other stuff. It will still be there to get done when you're better able to do it. ❤XxKathleen from Greenock Scotland
DO you wear a back brace to support your back it would help I think once you recover. It stops further damage. In winter I wear a heatpack as well when working in the garden. 75 years old and can no longer do as I use to .
I hope your back gets better soon, and the pain subsides. There is so much routine work to do on your homestead and you need to be fit. Homesteading is hard, physical work, especially working with limited funds to get the right infrastructure in place. Getting that good strong gate installed for the goats would be a game changer, and well worth investing in a professional to build.
You are one tough, brave lady. Someday, the yet’s get really strung out. I have such admiration for you. Love your hair when it curls. The snow has melted here in North Texas. If you can, rest your back.❤
I have a trigger that I bought that fits on top of the can like a gun so it’s not so hard for me to spray it with the button. Maybe you could find something like that to help you. I find with my back and older that I get I may not be able to do the things the way I used to, but I have found other ways to do them. That’s less straining on my back and my mindset is lift with your mind not your back.
Hi Cindy You sound like my daughter. She also loves to knit and crochet. She always tell me she doesn't like to knit in summer it's a winter sport 😂❤ Hope your back heals and a anonymous carpenter come to visit and build a gate to keep the goats
My back hurts most of the time, too. Getting rammed by our St Croix ram on my sitz bone last May certainly didn't improve that. I also have a laced gate for my lambs like yours, and I just find myself getting down on my knees rather than bending or stooping. My jeans have holes but I can accomplish my chores. Hope yours improves asap!

Having any health issue, will impact your daily, so whether you on the farm or in a house you will have much of the same challenges, best you get a work plan of must do tasks, until you overcome the back issue, then carry on with rest when you better, might need a course of cortisone, I use homeopathic treatments for my back, mine is my sciatic nerve get some Traumeel it works, might be able to get it online and a heat bag/ or heat pad. Gee, I hope your back improves soon Cindy. Huh, yet! In Vietnamese their mid-tonal word Chua, means 'not yet'. My dear aunty, who worked in Vietnam for 30 years used to tell me 'chua Carolyne, chua'. The number of times I have found this helpful in my life has been extraordinary. Thankyou for sharing the power of yet!
Good to have that attitude Cindy. I’m glad you can focus on the things you can do. It’s too bad you can’t take a week of just resting your back with heat and ice. But, as we know, the hobbystead work will just pile up. I will hope and pray a volunteer will show up. You sure could use one. Please take care of yourself.
About where the pigs have pushed the wire up, you could tie the bottom of the wire fence to a long piece of wood or pole. I would use wire to attach it
Cindy thanks for having given the "don't know how to do something" a name = can't do it yet!! Can't do it yet = having patience with oneself!! And then that heavy Tramadol meds you were given in hospital having you visit a few different planets; I quickly checked out side effects and one of them actually says: .....feeling 'spaced out' .... I had a good chuckle.🤣 Also avoid driving your vehicle hey.... Store your your broom too hey, let your drone do the checking over your land.
I have a trigger that I bought that fits on top of the can like a gun so it’s not so hard for me to spray it with the button. Maybe you could find something like that to help you.
I'm so sorry your back is so painful. But you are right, busy yourself with what you can do. That gate is a pain for sure. I was thinking things like: screw on a couple of lengths of wood length wise on to each post, both back and front, to give structure for a slide bolt? Or metal eye hooks that you can slide a stick through? Hmmm🙂👍👍🇨🇦
Cindy is your back pain from a previous injury or a recent fall. I suffered for 18 months with lower back pain which was like my lower back was seizing up, i could hardly bend and then i started with sciatic nerve pain as well After Numerous doctors i was given such a bizarre diagnosis. It was bilharzia parasites in my spine. 4 Bilharzia treatments at intervals and my back pain is almost gone. Love your positive attitude Live your ❤ Love from Coreen, Harare, Zimbabwe
Back in Norway I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis. It just means that sometimes a bone spur pushes on a nerve and the back muscles then cramp up to protect it. Once the muscles relax, the pressure on the nerve eases.
Meat pies, now you’re talking. That wooden gate looks just the thing you need. I really hope you get that pain in your back under control so you can get on with the things you want to do❤.
Paint could be to mark lines for electrical or plumbing lines. Have you thought about going to a chiropractor? They work wonders. You've got a lot of irons in the fire, prioritize maybe invest in stronger fencing and gates first and then other projects. It seems like you spend a lot of time re doing the fences and gates. I've had to learn all this the hard way. I'm having to reprioritize all the goals and tasks I want to accomplish in 2025. God bless you.
I too have back issues. I find if I have a chair I can do a bit more. Can you put a chair by the gate when you have to take it down and up? Love the idea of "power of Yet!"
Hope your back gets to feeling better pretty soon. I hate taking pain meds, but to wonder about the gate what about taken pallets and take them one side off of it to light it and you might have to use two but I think that would make a nice skate if you have a post to connect to. Put them on a wagon and pull them up there if that’s possible.
Here in the states, we have a salon paws patch that goes on your back wherever to stop the pain if you could find similar to that, I do to have the role on, but I use the salon pause on my back and my back of my neck
Maybe if you could maybe weave a piece of wood down to the fencing and kind of tap it down in the ground if the ground is too hard just put some water on it and it’ll go down in. Maybe I hope that doesn’t hurt your back doing that.
I guess Uncle Nick knows best hey?? 😂😂😂!! I've had those bad back days!! One minute you are happily doing something...the next you are not!! And goddamn it if my Sciatic nerve plays up on me...cause that's like three months being out of action!! It's a bugger hey??
@@CindyVine They tried to get me to have an injection in my back once!! Thankfully they changed their minds on it!! Cause it sounded painful!! I discovered that taking Ponstan and a can of Coke works just as good!! LOL!!
I'm about your age and I used to have back pains, one after another, but when I changed my eating habits (for other health reasons) my back pains disappeared. Over 20 years older now and pain free, I'm more supple than before. But at events such as Christmas, when I eat a few things I shoudn't, like sugar, processed & utltra-processed foods, wheat etc. I get pain in back & joints again. But now I do know how to fix it: I just avoid all sugar & foods containing sugar, wheat, processed foods etc. and after a week or so I'm back to fit. Note: The anti-inflamatories and painkillers didn't solve the ROOT CAUSE. It happened again... and again. But a balanced eating plan (aka diet) improved my overall health and l lost weight too, without ever cutting meals or the amount I eat. Plenty of green veg, beans, lentils, peas, rice, potatoes, polenta, chicken, some meat & fish (canned sardines are rich in Omega 3 and will do for fish), plenty of fruit. Breakfast is always oats (porridge or Bircher muesli), fruit, sometimes scrambled eggs with rye bread. Sweet treats: Dates & dried fruit, nuts, baked sweet potato (wrap in foil and cook inside wood burner), exotic fruit once in a while when not too expensive, etc. Very occasionally home baked cake, pancakes, apple crumble, rice pudding (these are some of our favourites and less than once a month is OK). My plan has worked miracles all around! If you are interested, just let me know in comments and I can email you more details.
What projects do you “have to finish yet”? A question was asked by a viewer today if moving to an easier life wouldn’t be wise now because of your exhaustion and chronic pain. She gave you a pretty blunt assessment of what she perceived happening on the farm and to you. So I ask you, what is it you have to do, finish “yet” before leaving the farm. I’m genuinely interested in your answer. I’ve watched you from the beginning. It was exciting to see you begin your homestead; learning the land and making a home. With a lot of help. Now I wince and wonder why you’ve become so defiant and angry ( pain will do that). You are not well and this farm is continuing to take its toll on you - because of your pride, I would guess. Do you think you’re the only women that felt the overwhelming need to prove something? Achieve something? Unable to fulfill a dream? Cancer or not, this is not the way to listen and care for your body. You eat sugar and carbs like they’re going out of style. To those lovely kiwis you added more sugar than the kiwis - to go on more carbs. I see no steady weight bearing exercises or aerobics for the heart. How did you expect to homestead. I’m not one to blindly follow someone over the abyss without a stiff warning. And as an educator, you might want to revisit your YET mantra. It’s not appropriate for all, and certainly not all students. It can give false expectations and hope. Your defiance and pride are taking everything away from what you hold most dear. And for what? And here with a new grandson. What are you teaching him? Grandma wasn’t a quitter. Grandma was a hard worker. Grandma wasn’t there YET, but will eventually. Where? Where do you think you have to go? You are so talented, funny, and have so much to give (I use your cookbooks). You don’t think most viewers, but especially other homesteaders, see the same thing here? You may have grown up on a farm but you didn’t own it or run it. You can’t compare that childhood life to what you think you have now or can do. Love your pets but on a small scale. Then find resources to find out why you’re so angry and denying the reality of your circumstances. Then find someone to help break your hold on unhealthy and compulsive eating. I probably can guess why you miss Louise. She was a hard worker, a nurturer, and had the wisdom and energy you want. Alas. It’s a hard step down. I wish you the best.
Maybe they should have given you the super strong pain pill to take at home...not before you drove home? 😅 . Im going to try using the power of yet,our fix it list is terrifying! Many things cant be done YET, going to keep focussing on what CAN. ❤
I think you are allowing your "positivity" to hinder your view of reality. The truth is you are getting no younger and your body cant take what your "positivity" demands. You depend far too heavily on your volunteers and this is only going to get worse. I think you need to move on from your lovely homesteading to a house on the outskirts of town where you have enough land to keep a few animals. It is obvious that where you are happiest is in the kitchen cooking and knitting, and for this you do not need volunteers, yes friends that drop by to visit. Have your dog and cats, chickens and a pet pig or two, something you can handle without making yourself sick. I say this with no intention of being mean or cruel. Having watched you over several years it is becoming painfully clear that Bella Pedra is becoming too much for you, a lovely dream but a dream that needs to move on and be replaced by a little reality.
Increase the sheep and decrease the pigs , the sheep is less work and if needed be you can sell the animals. No need to move if it it is your happy place...

You sound like my daughter. She also loves to knit and crochet. She always tell me she doesn't like to knit in summer it's a winter sport 😂❤
Hope your back heals and a anonymous carpenter come to visit and build a gate to keep the goats
I'm quite keen to tackle that gate myself!
Can you put a small stool or tree log by the gate to sit on when you have to weave it? X
There is a slope there which makes it difficult.
Go Cindy. Keep on keeping on. I really hope Nic comes to the rescue regarding the gate. Love Sue ,GBay. RSA
Nick said he has an idea for the gate so fingers crossed!
My back hurts most of the time, too. Getting rammed by our St Croix ram on my sitz bone last May certainly didn't improve that. Have you thought of seeing a chiropractor, maybe there are some good ones in your area?
I DID KNIT THAT SWEATER FOR MY GRANDSON. ITR HAS JACK SKELLINGTON ON IT! Oops capslock unintentional lol
Sit on the ground to tie up the sheeps gate. Might be easier on your back.

That's the attitude!
Would bunji cords work on gate?
Probably, but definitely nee4d a more solid gate.
could nick replace the glow plugs cheaper then a garage? u would save a few bob...!
Not sure. Would have to find out where to buy them.

😍
Are those hot peppers I see and did you pour the jam over them or did you put the jam by itself? I can’t quite make out my eyes are not good.
Jam is separate. The peppers are fermenting in brine and I'LL MAKE A HOT SAUCE THIS COMING WEEK.
So cinds chronic pain...pl eat before anti inflams ..is there no one to help😊
I just take it slowly, no rush. Animals get fed and things will get done.
❤❤😊
😍
you are amazing.. but look after your back or it will cripple you as you age..
Am being careful with my back until it comes right.
Have to finish some projects first before I can make a move like that.
Check out the carnivore lifestyle for sustainable, painfree, med free healthy living ❤
Increase the sheep and decrease the pigs , the sheep is less work and if needed be you can sell the animals. No need to move if it it is your happy place...
How rude.
@CindyVine you keep doing what you love. Maybe downsize. Don't listen to nasayers
Maybe if you could maybe weave a piece of wood down to the fencing and kind of tap it down in the ground if the ground is too hard just put some water on it and it’ll go down in. Maybe I hope that doesn’t hurt your back doing that.
Are those hot peppers I see and did you pour the jam over them or did you put the jam by itself? I can’t quite make out my eyes are not good.
The jam was separate. The hot peppers are for a hot sauce.
