I would pull up the Dungeon ladder and store it. Then I would take apart the entire build and figure out if I could make a building slightly higher in elevation compared to the rest of the area. Then I would turn the Dungeon into either a side room or an "out house"--especially if you like my idea of making a village full of Traders.

I know you miss the villages, but I think this might be a good opportunity for you to actually use some of the mods you've never really used AND follow the game progression/storyline. This means seeing if the Boss in the Archives attacks you and if not, then you don't really need to get to steel level, but at least getting up to iron level with some Windmill(s) so you can use a helve hammer and pulverizer (and automate the quern). Then start on the objectives of 1.20 like getting an Elk, making a sailboat, and finding the other 4 Boss locations and exploring them. It would be interesting to see what type of home you make. The type of farm and barn(s), too. Since I don't know much about the 4 Boss locations, you may need to come home between each one and work on stuff. I know you are definitely going to need a Tent Bag!! And some long term food stuffs. Maybe look into your food mods. You may need to find salt/halite or at least trade with a Trader. You WILL need to find a Treasure Hunter Trader. Actually, this might be an opportunity for you to make your own Village and stock it with the various Traders! Okay, now I'm starting to want to move to version 1.20 because I won't really have to worry about the Traders and I'd be doing most of the work for the farms and animals anyways.

It sounds to me like you'd love 1.20. You sound excited to discover all those things.
Unfortunately, I just want to play with the villages and villagers.
I started playing Vintage Story on March 24, 2023, 2 months before I found the village mod. I had a huge farm with too many animals and chickens and a windmill with the automated quern and crusher and chests and trunk filled with all sorts of things.
I used mods that stopped monsters and wolves and bears, and I rarely went underground due to being claustrophobic and afraid of getting stuck in a cave. I felt like that was the extent of my game play and then I found the village mod and discovered creative mode. That, for me, breathed new life into this game and eliminated my fear of being buried alive.
From the moment I was introduced to this game (March 3, 2023) I watched videos and never did I see anyone show their interactions with the villages.
Then after I found the village mod, I watched more videos. No one ever showed anything to do with the villages. That was when I decided to stop waiting for someone to show me the villages, I would show them myself.
A year and a half later I still rarely see anyone show off or even talk about a VS Village mod village.
I think my point is that I felt my purpose in playing this game became apparent when I discovered the village mod. Right now, I am not getting the same enjoyment as I did when I knew there was a village just around the corner.
I am going to finish the storyline I am currently on and assess whether or not I go back to 1.19 until someone updates the village mod. You are accurate when you say I miss the villages.

@@lauraslittleworlds I'm really enjoying the world with Villages, too. Sure, I could update to 1.20, but that would mean returning to a "Bunker Base". Essentially, working on the Survival aspect for food, shelter, workspace, and storage. You could join with other Players, but that essentially speeds up everything because while you are doing IRL, someone might be doing the "chores" at the base or out finding and digging out ores or ruins. In Multiplayer, going from Stone Age to Steel Age can actually happen in less than an IRL day with a good spawn and enough people. Making an aesthetic build like a Hobbit House or even a Hobbiton (village) might sound cool, ultimately, you're just putting off the end game to pretty stuff up. Which is great for some people! But not everyone, and it's still very, very lonely. I WANT to see all the cool new stuff! But I don't know if I could sacrifice the Villages without knowing if they're going to be continued. I think it comes down to WHAT we see and/or interact with in that first new location, which I believe is The Enclosed Village.
How close is it to Gerste's mods?

Nope. Never got into Minecraft. Can't pinpoint why, just never appealed to me.
