Please take my comments with a grain of salt! I have smaller hands and am older so my comments for having a smaller camera body are for me only. One of "MY" deal breakers. I did not buy the X-H1 I have it was given to me by a friend that only shot video with it. Now I do like the camera but for "me" it's too big. I guess what I'm saying is give me an X-T5 not an X-H2. The X-H line has been completely ignored since they came out with "one" camera. Fujifilm made a complete mess of this line when they introduced a superior camera in the X-T3 right after it. So the X-H2 "Better be groundbreaking". Remember this is just my opinion. So don't troll me on the size issue.
I'm hoping that the X-H2 is basically an X-T3 with added IBIS and a higher resolution sensor. Basically, what I want is an X-T5 with a chunky battery grip to use when I'm taking one-handed photos but am about to take off when I want a smaller form factor. I want the tilt screen. The articulating screen is the reason I'm still on an X-T3 instead of a newer X-T4!
I disagree on the grip and size issue, it’s the only body that allows the bigger lenses to balance nicely. Unfortunately even Apsc lenses are still big if they are fast so it’s nice to have. Plus I have massive hands
In fact, I hope they integrate the vertical grip since it's probably going to be mandatory again (headphone jack on grip, hopefully a full size HDMI/ DisplayPort) Edit: At least on the 40MP camera. We already know at least one of the cameras has optional vertical grip.
@@Vinterloft I’d love an integrated grip but that’d probably reduce me to 2 batteries instead of 3. Not a big deal but it’s a nice to have on t Fuji batteries
I fully agree. x-t4 did not fit in my hand and therefore I took older but more comfortable in my hand x-h1. after all, it is a different concept and who wants the x-t style should wish these things for x-t and not for the x-h series
Hello to all...I think that most people are confused with the "H" series. You have commented the size and weight of the X-H1. "X" vs. "H" series is what makes the size and weight difference to start with. You will not get an X-H2 with the size and weight of an X-T4....period. They are not build the same way to start with. The X-H1 has that extra rougher design for a purpose. The extra thickness due to extra magnesium alloy makes this DSLR like camera a total winner because it stays light....sorry Kirk...😝 For the grip, I really think and hope it will stay as it is. Don't forget that the X-H1 had the 200 F.2 in mind and believe me that the 2 together work like a charm concerning balance in hand. I also hope that the window stays. I like to see my battery levels at a glance in my bag before heading for an assignment. Now I also prefer the back screen like it is..... I much prefer the shutter button on the "X" series...the "H" one is a bit to soft at my taste. For the rest, we all agree that faster focus is what we are all hoping for........oh, the last part of you video is true and I decently agree with the supplie chain issues but well it's COVID time......If you order a new car theses days, some manufactures have up to 9 months of delay......
Lucky for you they're also producing a 26MP option for low light shooters, I'm sure many people will be doing direct comparisons between the 26MP and 40MP sensors, being of the same generation in the same camera body, it might be the best option we've ever had for analyzing the effect of pixel density on image noise.
My two cents is there shouldn't be two X-H2 models. There should be a videocentric X-H2 that has all of the features video shoots want and need. The other camera should be an X-T5 with fabulous photography-centric features.
I agree 100%. I would imagine that there are many people that feel the same way. Personally, I couldn't care less about video, but I'm very interested in upgrading my X-T3 with a majorly improved model that is photography-centric.
@@fillflashdetailer8838 Same here, except that I won't be upgrading. What I hope is that the new camera and lenses will cause the used lens market to fill up with f2 primes at a price I can afford! :-)
If you don't like the grip on the X-H I'm sure the X-T5 will only be 6-12 months behind it. People love a small grip for travel, but if your job requires you to continually hold the camera all day then the large grip is far preferable (also consider the X-H1 was designed with the 200mm f2.0 lens in mind, it's meant to accommodate large lenses).
Well, an X-H1 arrived less than a week ago. (cafe purchase...no tax, no shipping!) Being typical, I shot around the house (still doing it) and was curious about what seemed some screen sluggishness compared to none on my T-2. Yes, the battery (for now) isn't the top S version from Fuji, but after making a series of fine tunings in it's still and video parameters, everything made a huge jump. (it has current firmware) I started getting far less blurry images of the same dull lit interior corners at 1/4 of a second instead of a 15th. Before, 1/4 sec useless, but 15th was great) And that was setting my short zoom halfway out. It's a great feeling when the combo of you and your gear compliment each other. Like having a car you can work on yourself. Heavy? Sure. But take some weight off with a narrow wrist strap. It works even when shooting. Note using the grip how the pinky sits under the body? Set the focus to multi instead of area. Set face/eye detection off. Set your movie tracking sensitivity to plus 4, Set the speed of auto focus in movie mode to minus 2. for smoother transitions. Try setting the white balance to 5600k outdoors instead of Auto. Even less processing needed slowing things up. It's not a Tesla. It's a Caddy. Haven't worked with it's battery grip yet. Ever notice in still mode, that if you leave the camera on, after a while the camera has jerky images on the rear screen when you move it? Press the shutter halfway down and you're back up to speed. Almost like a phone just before it puts the screen to sleep...it starts timing out. Try that pinky under the body. Gives the grip fingers a bit of a break and serms to make it easier to hold horizontally. I haven't used the battery grip yet. Maybe then I'll attach it to the Goodyear blimp...
You need the grip for it to perform like it was designed! Get the grip and put it in Boost mode and the changes are significant. No one uses this camera in video mode without the grip. It literally burns through batteries without it.
No mention of price being a deal breaker? My guess is the 26mp version gets released at $2,300 body only and $2,800 for 40mp version. Neither will sell well at those prices because it’s firmly in FF territory. Thoughts?
I have to agree with all of your complaints, except for the grip of the X-H1. The grip on the X-T4 is too small for me, and I have small hands. Maybe if they had a grip on the X-H2 that was somewhere between the X-T4 and the X-H1. The X-S10 has a perfect grip in my opinion. And good points about their supply chain. They need to improve that.
If they improve autofocus up to Sony or Canon levels they will be killing it! Im curious to see how the new sensor performs in low light as well. Im glad I preordered the 23 1.4 WR as soon as it was available, it sounds like a similar situation to the 70-300 😜
Same here. I love Fujifilm, but if they don't significantly improve AF, I might look elsewhere. In terms of delivery...Even announcing in May, if they can't deliver until February, that would be a deal breaker for me. Many of the other issues you pointed out will take care of themselves IMHO, i.e. IBIS, size weight. Like you, I prefer the XH1-style screen, but the flippy screen isn't a deal breaker for me.
I really want a flippy screen. No one wants to vlog with an external monitor. You have to buy awkward adapters too bc the microphone takes up the hotshoe location. So you either get the V dual cold shoe or the 3 way cold shoe adapters. Adds weight and can be hard to balance weight wise too. Feels weird. If fujifilm wants to focus on video or hybrid cameras it needs the flip screen. At least as an option or different models. Or just focus on photography only in which case video af and flippy screen won’t matter
I would compromise though on a future xt5 having the flippy screen instead since it would probably be smaller and lighter. Would be more appropriate for vlogging.
I am eagerly awaiting the new Fujifilm announcement in May too. I have the X-S10 which is a great little camera but I agree that the X-H2 needs to have some of the updated features you mentioned and more. I am a hybrid photo/video shooter (mostly wildlife) so I hope it has world class AF system (akin to Canon, Sony, Nikon & OM-1) with Ai tracking for birds etc, great IBIS, hi-res low latency EVF, 3.5" touchscreen, better protruding physical buttons & larger joystick (than my X-S10), great battery life, dual card slots, BSI stacked sensor, better higher ISO performance. And for video I would like 4K 120fps 10 bit 4:2:2, all stills AF modes/areas useable same as stills (not possible on my X-S10-it has no subject tracking option!), full size HDMi port, headphone & mic port, better pre-amps for audio, built-in variable ND filters. I hope they announce the new 150-600mm lens too but will we even be able to buy it? I still can't buy the XF 70-300mm new here in the UK. If things don't improve I may look to other systems, but then again some of their supply chains are choked-up too!
The X-H1 was targeted at video makers, so putting all of your priorities on stills stuff is kind of missing the point of it, in a way. I’d want a camera that can do amazing HDR videos. 4k at high bitrates and high frame rates. Big batteries. Maybe a built in ND filter. Good IBIS. Mechanical buttons and dials for video functions. I’m not too concerned with it being compact. That’s not the only advantage of APS-C. Broadcast cameras have tiny sensors but the hardware is big.
Kirk, thanks for your honest opinions about the fuji cameras. I totally agree with you about the poor auto-focus capabilities of Fuji's entire line. I did one wedding with the Fuji cameras and found the auto-focus missing focus on several key images. I've since switched to another brand but am still hoping that Fuji eventually gets the auto-focusing on par with the other major camera makers. It's refreshing to hear honest reviews, keep them coming!
Hi Jerry, I like to think I'm a Fujifilm fan boy but I have used every major brand except Nikon and I have a friend that has been using them for 30 years and loves them despite their flaws. So I can say with knowledge that Fujifilm is not keeping up and needs to step up their game. Maybe they don't intend to.
Sadly, I took the Xh2 back to the store. During two occasions the camera froze while shooting at 15 frames per second using the electronic shutter. ISO was auto and the shutter speed was anywhere from 640 to 3200. That morning I was trying to shoot the event, I was extremely frustrated because the camera kept freezing. I was not holding the shutter down for more than 3-4 seconds at a time and given what I’ve read, this should not have occurred whether I was shooting JPEGS or RAW. I was in RAW and JPEG that morning. Later I tried shooting birds only in RAW, same settings but it locked up again. I had already upgraded the firmware too but was NOT using a CF express card. Low light and high ISO images are good but I expected a little more. Since I do not purport to be an expert on autofocus I went back to my favorite camera store to ask about it. We agreed it would be best to return it. I did not opt for a replacement. I'm waiting for the X-T5 - not expecting better autofocus, but I can just keep my hopes at just continuing to have fun with my Fuji cameras. Thanks for your good content! Oh - and I have VERY small hands so yeah....Xh2 not for me.
I'll work on that. Just so people know. I have to say though that Fujifilm folks know where to go to get the straight scoop (Fujirumors)! I have added a link in the description to the X-H2 archive. From the looks of things the 40mp version is an 8k video/stills camera with a fan to blow the dust around - not interested! The X-H2S seems more like what I would be interested in.
I absolutely agree with what you said! everything you said should be in one of the Fujifilm cameras at least, if not in XH2, but in some one after! Fujifilm, you can’t mock consumers like you do: add a little to one model, then remove a little bit from the other model a little bit in each model, and as a result, not a single normal high-quality camera
I’m not waiting to see what Fuji announces. My XT-3 is really nice, I like the size and analog dials and the 16mm/1.4 and 33mm/1.4 are gorgeous lenses. The 16-80 zoom is impressive also. But I am constantly frustrated by the sub-par AF and the relatively poor low light performance. I used to own a Canon 5D III, so I just bought an R6 with the RF 24-105L. The AF is incredible and the dynamic range and low light performance are leagues above the Fuji. The ergos are perfect and the Canon sensor is exquisite. I’m now going to break the bank and get the RF 50mm/1.2. That will be my forever, take everywhere kit that I will never sell. Sure it’s bigger and heavier than the Fuji, but it’s not uncomfortable or burdensome. Love it. My Fuji gear is being boxed and traded in.
Yannis, yes you are correct! I was the same way with my Canon 5Dmklll and 7Dmkll. Loved those cameras to death. I just could not wait for canon to get its act together. Now I am stuck with lots of Fuji gear and have no way out. So I am hoping that Fuji comes alive instead of being light years behind in many areas.
You sure you had a decent Fuji? I have an X-T3 and an R6. Dynamic range is slightly better on the Fuji. Noise performance is definitely better on the Canon, but with Fuji the f1.2 and f1.4 lenses are much cheaper, meaning I have to shoot with the f1.8 lenses on Canon. This means I have to increase my ISO on Canon anyway making it pointless. Unless you can afford the f1.2 lenses on Canon I’d say they’re both quite tied. Now autofocus tracking is where Canon really takes the cake, as it destroys the Fuji system, but I found with single point autofocus the Fuji is actually better in many situations. The Canon seems to front focus or grab the wrong subject, while the Fuji is accurate and allows me to make the focus point really small. Now this is situational like when dealing with fences, windows, grass, trees, etc… but it does happen often enough. It all comes down to use case, but personally I think full frame has been overhyped and unless you need perfect tracking, Fuji is amazing. If the X-H2 and X-H2S catch up with the autofocus of Canon and Sony, while also improving their DR even with 40 megapixels, I’ll likely sell my Canon R6 as I have more fun with Fuji and can afford more glass for it.
I have an R5 and the 50 1.2… yet I take the XT4 and 33 1.4 everywhere. Canon’s refusal to make 1.8 L glass is seriously their downfall. The weight and chunk of that 50 1.2 is real.
Yeah instead of the top lcd screen I would be fine with a tiny digital exposure display next to the exposure dial so I can just zone focus by feel and know at a glance in real time if it dips below desired exposure comp. Anyhow I agree with your other points as I feel it's pinnacle to get this right as we know how anticipated everyone is for Fuji to take the next step.
With you on AF and ISO. Plus battery which is a given. But if fujifilm removes the window and reduces the size it won’t be an H. Just a new T. And I need the larger size. That’s why I came back to fujifilm. And it’s only 2.4 ounces heavier.
I realized that kind of late like after posting the video. What would be nice for me would be to have the same xh2 layout, shutter, etc but make it lighter and with a less deep grip.
Good to see you again Kirk. I can't really say a deal breaker for me because not only I'm more than happy with the X-T4, but as you mentioned, the X-H1 (and now the 2) is too big for me, it's DSLR territory. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones, I was able to get the XF70-300 as soon as it was released, great lens, I just wish the X-T4 would focus a little faster for action "stuff", for everything else it's great. Be well and stay safe.
Thanks Enrique! Great to be back after tax season. I'm glad you were able to get a 70-300 but you and I both know the X-T4 is not a Canon or Sony and for action stuff the lens underperforms if you try to zoom and the same time as you are focusing.
For me, I am interested in cost. To change system would need a big upgrade from my xt4 because its not just the camera, its the lenses. Not a pro, just an enthusiast.
Yes cost is also a factor. For me unless this thing focuses like a banshee I will not be interested. Plus the size issue. The only reason I have an XH1 is because someone gave it to me.
I totally agree on the flippy screen. I hate it, and it would be a dealbreaker. I had to laugh on your 70-300 comments, mine has been back ordered, i hope i live long enough to see it. Personally, i will not upgrade from my xt-3, as it fills my needs. Thanks for the video.
@@saiyan_princestudios9790 I agree. Not everyone is a vlogger, and not everyone cares about video (but most do). I would wish for a stills camera, and then the rest could lean video. I tried one video on my xt-20, and have never tried it on my xt3, but i assume it will do it well.
I sold my x-t3 because I did not like the ergonomics. I prefer the shutter to be further forward, like the XH1 and not straight up on the camera body. So I an hoping for the shutter to be like the XH1 and not the XT line.
Hi John - Since my funds are low I will pass on the X-H2s. I’ll wait for the real thing to be announced. I will probably comment on the what is said at the X-Summit.
How different we all are in our likes and dislikes. I adore the x-H1. Like everything about it except it has no flippy screen. My hope and the only way I will buy one is that it keeps the same body, except for the screen, and improves its performance with an upgrade of the older tech. The 26 mp sensor is the one that has my interest, the 40 is overkill on an x camera in my view. Like you I have almost zero interest in video but love the flippy screen. Should be a most interesting debut, May is right around the corner.
John - Just asking, do you use an L bracket? The flippy gets in the way as i use an L bracket all the time for landscape work. The main reason I don't own an X-T4 or X-S10 is because of it. I like my X-H1 but "for me" it's too big and heavy. If they make it just a smaller and lighter version with a slightly smaller grip that would be nice. Camera ergonomics is such a personal choice.
@@KirkWilliamsonphotography No I don't Kirk. I can understand where it is a problem for you. The X-H1 is my dream camera. I love the heavy solid feel, the IBIS, massive grip and entire dial set up. I honestly wish it was the only camera I had ever bought. I have four other Fujis and one Nikon which were a total waste of money and time for me as the X-H1 is the only one I use since purchasing. I shoot mostly stills, no video, and landscape mostly. Pleasure conversing with you. Your photos of Maine are truly a joy to look at. Thanks for all the hard work you put into your videos. Regards, JNA
The 40MP one will be the video focused one though, the other one won't be able to record 8K at all, not to mention the possible 8K60 on the flagship. So hopefully only the 40MP version gets a flippy screen so the stills shooters can enjoy the 26MP one more.
The weight is an issue for me. The XH-1 with the battery grip and 100-400 lens and a ruck sack, doesn’t do my back any favours. I could probably manage with the XT-4 battery and a spare in my pocket, or maybe an all in one design would be lighter.
@@KirkWilliamsonphotography I canceled it. I guess I will wait until we see a break in the supply. I now shoot primarily Nikon mirrorless, and love it. I miss some of my Fuji glass but Nikon works well too.
Nice. I can agree with the explanation on quality of high iso performance, ibis, af performance and things like that. Physical attributes: Not everyone has the same Physical attributes. People buy shoes, dresses, glasses etc. on the basis of standard sizes available, unless they go for custom designed custom tailored accessories, which are way more expensive and such custom fit cannot be expected from mass production tools, whether it's a screwdriver or spanner or such thing as even a razor blade or safety pin. It's just my musings...
Well Kirk, that's an ambitious but totally realistic list based on what Fuji and others have done/not done to this point. They do need to take it up a notch. I'm not a video shooter but what concerns me is to take it up a notch, they may think that goes for video too. Look at the new Lumix GH-6. Micro 4/3 body that is heavier than most new full frame bodies. I agree with you on the focusing, tilt vs. flippy screen and ISO performanceI have an X-T3 and still love it but like you, don't want to upgrade if it's a beast.
Honestly Mike if I didn’t HAVE to shoot news assignments I would only have Leica gear. And it would only be M gear. The gear is sooooo expensive and I need AF for work it’s Fuji for now.
So Kirk, do you really want and "XT-5" vs. the XH-2? ;) I love my XH-1, but it is a bit too large for today'sl Fujfilm camera now that stabilization technology has progressed. The supply chain issue is of course a problem, and I agree about announcement with not real delivery in sight. I ended up going with a 100-400mm used because I could not get the 70-300mm. Well at least that is what I'm telling myself spouse should she ever see the price difference ;) Finally, I do not want a front facing LCD position, but that is just me.
Bill I still think Fujifilm can do it. I’m just worried that the camera will not be completely re-engineered but sticking new stuff in the old body. That would be a huge bummer.
Agree, Better more confidant AF and stickier eye/face detect is would always be great, it’s too jumpy and jittery on some older lenses, I also have a Cannon R6 and that works better with eye/face detect. Fuji always seems to be playing catch-up with the Mod cons even if they match Canons or Sony’s AF performance now, it won’t be long till the opposition make more advances and leave Fuji behind again. I think Fuji’s strengths well for me anyway is not AF or High ISO performance its the colour science and beautiful tonality it gives to skin tones and landscapes. It’s definitely not a F1 racing car. It’s like an Alfa Romeo as its pleasures are in the joy of the drive and Immersing yourself in the experience of the journey you take, its not about how quick you get to your destination.
I enjoyed your commentary and you raised a couple of salient points. 1 cramming to many photo sites onto a small area. 2 XT4 stupid floppy screen. Personally I won’t be buying anything for quite a while. I’m utterly bored with all the tech marketing nonsense that’s pushed around. In the old days we had split image micro prisms, photographers made the kit work, sure it was harder. Just for information I do own and use Xpro3, XT3, XT4 and a Nikon D4. I enjoy all their attributes (except for the XT4 silly screen). I think we should all try and exploit what these cameras can do as opposed to their weaknesses. If you want a fast car get a Porsche not a commuter car….Sure it costs more but it comes with different engineering. I / hope / think you get my point. Regards Antony.
Yes Antony I do. This will be the most expensive X series camera to date. I sometimes shoot two games a week but the Canon gear I had was to big. So I decided since I was no longer a full time PJ I wanted something a lot smaller and Canon was still two years away from the R6 so I went with Fuji. Size, weight, and cost.
Agree improving autofocus would be good. Agree smaller body with smaller ibis and less weight would be good. DISAGREE with tilt-only screen...I use flippy screen for stills and video...what they should do is make a screen that you can tilt OR flip, according to the user needs at that moment. GRIP...very user dependent...I find the H1 grip too big for my hand but another in the family finds it a perfect size. High iso in raw...nice but don't care...while I mostly shoot raw+jpeg, I also mostly use the jpegs with Fuji film simulations because they meet my needs, and hi iso on jpegs look good (of course even better is always nice) . Top screen...don't care. BUT they MUST HAVE have a still/video switch like the XT4...I love that, with its total separation of settings and easy switching.
1. Remove the top lcd 2. Less shallow grip 3. Smaller body like the xt4 You're pretty much asking for an xt5 right? A lot of people like the xh line because of the top lcd and the deep grip. Seeing how bigthe gh6 is, i doubtthat they'll make their competing xh2 a small body. You have the xt5 for that. With the ibis fuji obviously wont have a big one anymore. They've downsized more than twice since the xh1 andthere's no question to them retaining a big ibis module.
Yes Zion you make a good point. Maybe I should have been more specific in stating that a smaller, lighter body with all the features top LCD etc. would be nice. Mainly it's the AF, low noise at high ISO, and no flippy screen is what I'm concerned about. But that is just my opinion.
I suggest you just move to Sony for a bit...then you will won't complain about your Fuji hangups. They are minimal compared to how bad owning a Sony is - I have and was glad to come back to Fuji. And are you serious - the IBIS on Fuji blows the Sony one out the water for video anyhow. I have not had to stabilise a single piece of footage from my X-T4; my Sony was all over the place and unwatchable out of camera.
Colin I’m not saying it’s terrible but for stills which is all I worry about I would like to see it better. I’ve used Sony and found the ibis good but not the A9 which is supposed to be very good. Hybrid cameras are a problem for me in general. Stills or video.
After ten solid and faithful years with Fuji X, I have lost Almost all hope in them due to failed features you've mentioned, too many things go unanswered with Fuji while Nikon and Canon are improving each step of the way these days. It feels Fuji has become stagnant or complacent in what they have while each release is just small incremental improvements of already aging tech. Also, there is no consistency in each model line when it comes to handling, switching bodies on the fly get quite frustrating sometimes. I am in the process of going back to Nikon for those ergonomic and issues that Fuji still has to deal with. Besides All the F glass I own are equal if not better than my XF glsss. I still have that X-H1 as I write this and I feel it is the best designed body [especially with the boost/vertical/battery grip]. Brilliant camera, it'll be hard to top it with the new iteration.
I’m hoping they wake up. The X-H1 with the grip is too big for me my X-T3 with the grip is just right. If it had IBIS and awesome auto focus and fabulous high iso performance it would be perfect.
The whole point of the X-H series is to be the go-to body for the big lenses. They wouldn't be launching the 150-600mm simultaneously with the X-H2 if they were making it any smaller. Maybe the 2nd version of the camera is different. But I personally hope they integrate the vertical grip completely this time since it was mandatory on the X-H1 anyway. My most used lens is the Samyang 135mm F2 and using it on an X-T body or X-S10 is terribly unbalanced and that's not even that heavy of a lens.
The only lenses that balance correctly with any of these cameras are primes. All the zooms except the 18-55 are unbalanced on the X-H1. You need the grip on the X-H1 and the X-T3 to balance them out. If you are looking for a Canon R3 from Fuji you can forget it. Not happening.
The eye-focus feature of canon is useless, because you so often look around the elf to see the parameters of the shooting (exposure comp, shutter speed settings etc), that making the focus follow eye movement is completely useless
I never thought of that. I have not used it so I can't really comment. Someone also said they also have a sensor on the joy stick that you just move your thumb over to move the focus point around.
Oh my god dude you are so right fast auto focus and normal iso is what a modern camera should have no matter what brand i am not talking about fujifilm its a world famous brand dont they have that basics? this is basic , why bother with them? only for film modulation? but i can make his post processing even better
@@KirkWilliamsonphotographyHow can we reach Fujifil? do you think they hear us? Do they listen to our wishes? I am a member of the fujifilm group on FB, where the amateurs are happy with the cameras)) but the pros have already left. I am an amateur too, and while in thought, only Fujifilm lenses 23/1.4, 56, 90 keeps me in this system
I don't think you'll be buying the XH2 then Kirk!!! Your issue about ISO and needing clean images at 6400 is a none starter....and you answered the reason yourself straight after by saying APS-C cannot compete with the FF. I do agreea about the screen though (flippy screen is what you DO want!!! You were describing the fully articulating screen) My only shooting is stills and the flippy screen as is on the XT3 and XH1 are the best for me. I hope they release 2 versions....one aimed more at stills and the other for video enthusiasts (much like Sony have done) We'll have to wait and see!!!
I desire faster accurate autofocus with animal eye detecting as the other manufacturers provide. The other desire is more lenses for wildlife. The other factors are minor.
The X-H2 SHOULD be the flagship X-series camera design wise. It should not be smaller. Flip screen (better for videography), keep the D-pad. And you'd better prepare to be disappointed on the video auto-focus front, because they'll never get it right.
It almost sounds like you want an X-T5 - not an X-H2 ;-) Same body size/weight as an X-T4 w/ (a) better IBIS and (b) better high-ISO and (c) better AF (amen to that!) (and (d) no flippy screen like the X-T4 :-) ). Re: video - I once asked a Nikon rep why they don't sell a stills only model and he made an interesting point: basically, these cameras are video cameras that happen to take stills. Basically, due to the EVF/LCD the system needs to do "video" anyways. I would think that there must be some circuitry (and buttons/menu options &c) that are video only - and by removing them one could get a stills only camera (that should weigh/cost less), but I guess that's not how it works. I have a sinking sensation that you are going to be disappointed in the size/weight of the X-H2 - I have no knowledge about it, but unless they keep it to a larger package size (like the X-H1 vs. the X-T2 at the time) then I think you'd end up w/ an X-T5 (w/ new sensor, new processor). How else are you going to differentiate the X-H line?
Alan you are absolutely right and I messed up that part of the video. I should have said something like please give me a smaller grip and an a lighter body but basically the same size. Given how bad they have messed up the H line by dropping the X-T3 on top of it all bets are off with this camera.
@@KirkWilliamsonphotography I think Fuji has to cull some of their cameras - or they'll never able to produce new stuff (re: shipping things ;-) ). I see so many arguments on how the X-T2 is still viable (nevermind the X-T3) in 2022...
Werll done! Exactly my opiniions on new coming XH2,, That line up startet well with X-H1, I love it!!! But we need just better performance, For professional video shooter NO flipy screen that you can brake very easy, OLD TYPE SCREEN PLEASE! Full size HDMI , better stabilization and AF, in camera LUT preview, false colours, better high speed bursts...and sturdy mount that twists often......Hope thats fan extension is just a funny joke, :-((((( Probably starting to look for replacement.....with this is coming FUJIFILM too far from their classic design...
Having watched the entire video I now feel you could have saved yourself and everybody else some time by just admitting you don't care for the form factor of the xh1 and what you really want is an xt5. You don't like the sixe, the ergonomics of the grip, you don't like the rear screen, you don't like the top screen, you don't like the ibis, but your answer to all of it is to make it more like the XT series. So just don't buy an xh2 and wait for the xt5... I think you'll be much happier. As for me I will most likely continue to be more than happy with my xh1 and not find anything in the xh2 that makes me feel compelled to switch. Mostly because I just don't have the money to upgrade. But I am keeping my mind open.
Autofocus is the only video spec that matters. It’s so sad seeing people still putting their xt4 in manual focus while sitting still. If they try to market this as a video camera or a hybrid camera but terrible video autofocus still it will be a huge failure. Love fujifilm for photography but for video it’s like pulling teeth.
I think what gets me is that they are banking on the video specs of 8k. Fuji rumors is reporting that Fuji registered a patent for a fan behind the sensor to cool it off. I guess not with the X-H2 but for a video centric camera.
I agree a better auto focus is needed but you simply can't compare a $1600 Fuji to a $6000 Sony or Nikon or Cannon. That's crazy! To make a photo you need light, 6400 ISO with no grain? See above comments on $$$. I think the image stabilization is pretty good for stills and you said you don't shoot video? I don't think you'll be getting everything you want from the new camera sorry to say. lets just see how it goes in May. I'm OK with my X T4 and XPro3. Just got back from Africa and they performed well compared to the A1's in N9"s in the group.
@@KirkWilliamsonphotography I just weighed my cameras on scale. X-H1 was 1lbs 8.3oz. X-T4 was 1lbs 6.0oz. So there is a 2.3oz difference in weight. Very minimal. But yes, it does seem the X-H1 is slightly heavier. I would say the difference is negligible, as the X-H1 feels lighter. My guess because its larger in size, so the X-T4’s weight is more compact/dense for it’s size.
Flippy screen Or any sort of the screens, I don't care about that I don't use them at all. Fuji only need to improve the AF and every Fujifilm camera is perfect.
fujifilm always focuses on less necessary features; no all medium quality, all good quality according to price ranges; always mix good things with bad things; please keep camera price low and sell view finders, flash separately
Flippy screen is a dealbreaker for me. I want XH1/XT3 style lcd screen. By the way, having the D-pad on XH2 would be great too. And, a properly working remote software for everyone!
I want the flippy screen. No one wants to vlog with an external monitor mounted on it. Lol. Have to add an adapter too since the normal hotshoe is taken by the microphone.
Fujifilm as a company will be just fine, even if the whole camera line went away. Fujifilm make more money on medical, by a wide margin. They also hold many patents on everyday products, that they get a nice payday from
"I shoot lot of sports"...and you using Fujifilm..it seems the issue is the right tool for the right job.I would also suggest to get 1 inch 2.5mpix sensor to have no any noise at 600K ISO. Sounds like you are satisfied with what you already have.
I shoot sports for extra money in retirement. There is no reason why Fujifilm can't get the AF and noise issue solved. Yes you are probably right I should never have switched from Canon to Fujifilm but here I am hoping they will compete with better systems.
@@KirkWilliamsonphotography Doing sport every now and then and there for none of the MILC is capable then the very top of the line.Other then that I also do not recognize the people continues bragging about AF vs camera since AF is not a camera performance but combo of camera, lens,AF preset and photographer especially when shooting .If I shoot basketball I seldom mis the shot (even with old XT-1) cause I used to play the sport and can predict the movement of the player. For video is different story since non of Fujifilm or other brand cameras in this price bracket is meant for serious pro video work.
There is likewise no reason why Fuji CAN solve the high ISO problem. High ISO performance has plateaued. Fuji will need a revolutionary new technology if it is to offer significantly better high ISO. Love to see it, but not betting on it.
@@bertietropez2063 Not sure where you referring to with term of "ISO" since there is no such thing exist in digital photography.Yes they can apply different gain on the signal in post processing and algorithm to de-noise the image but that has some cons and depend on which noise you are apply certain noise filter.Be aware that most of the noise is not coming from Fuji,Sony or any other sensor but due to lack of the light (shot noise). So to get to your case you ether need to get a good flash gun or something else then Fujifilm apsc.
I totally agree with no flippy screen....I love the screen on my Fuji X-T3. Would love better autofocus, IBIS, and battery life.
In fact, I hope they integrate the vertical grip since it's probably going to be mandatory again (headphone jack on grip, hopefully a full size HDMI/ DisplayPort)
Edit: At least on the 40MP camera. We already know at least one of the cameras has optional vertical grip.
@@Vinterloft I’d love an integrated grip but that’d probably reduce me to 2 batteries instead of 3. Not a big deal but it’s a nice to have on t Fuji batteries
I fully agree. x-t4 did not fit in my hand and therefore I took older but more comfortable in my hand x-h1. after all, it is a different concept and who wants the x-t style should wish these things for x-t and not for the x-h series
agree, the camera is a good size
I agree about the flippy screen. I much prefer a tilt screen like that on the X-H1.
Thoughts?
Yes true the price is a bit high. It may also impact my decision.
Yes that would be good for me.
If they improve autofocus up to Sony or Canon levels they will be killing it! Im curious to see how the new sensor performs in low light as well. Im glad I preordered the 23 1.4 WR as soon as it was available, it sounds like a similar situation to the 70-300 😜
Lewis I'm not sure they would be killing it but it better be available when they say it will be. The 23 1.4 WR must be nice.
Bang on man, let's hope the Fuji ninja assassins don't have you whacked tho (cuz most likely, the autofocus is still gonna be subpar) :P. Subscribed!
Right now I'm stuck with Fujifilm. Canon, Sony, and Nikon are now out of my price range. They really need to up their game!
I agree. No flippy screen = no sale.
Thanks for your opinion Shanon!
Yes I want all those features too!
The X-T5 will be much better for you.
@@KirkWilliamsonphotography I hope so!
Nice video... if possible, I'd appreciate a quote and links to the articles on FujiRumors... just so people know the source of the rumors ;)
Olga - exactly my point. Fujifilm needs to get it together!!!
ISO and AUTOFOCUS for me is a PLUS! I don't want to get another XT-4, I hate the F-SCREEN, ... thanks for this video!
Thanks Ricky! Yes it needs to be better than the X-T4. What does Fuji do with the X-T5?
Agree on the autofocus and tilt screen, disagree on the grip and camera size. Photographers with big hands need some love.
I never had any issues with D range on XH1.
A small exposure screen would bring me back to my Canon days and I’m cool with that.
Hi Kirk, I think I would rather wait until you have a X-H2 in hand for your review whenever that day arrives ??? 🙄
I felt I needed to get my frustration with Fujifilm out of the way. You never know they might surprise me.
Xh2 rumoured to be full frame! Can’t wait 😀
Hummm interesting
I have been patiently waiting or the xh2. I love that camera line and even having tried the newer fuji models I tend to come back to the xh1.
XH1 is a great camera a little bit on the heavy side for me but still great.
Sorry to chuckle there Scott! The X-T3 could be with me a very long time depending on what Fujifilm does.
Vloggers want the flippy screen. If anything they should make different options or models or just make photography cameras
I guess we are all in the dark as to how the camera ergonomics will be. I like the silent shutter on the X-H1 so I hope it's like that.
Use both the XT3 and an XH1. Love both and would never sell them. Awesome platform.
Love your passion Kirk and look forward to your review of the X-H2 in a few weeks.
Yes the X-H1 is a beast with that setup.
I’ve had a Fuji x100v on order for over 6 months at B&H finally gave up
Well that really stinks I hope you get it soon.
@@KirkWilliamsonphotography I canceled it. I guess I will wait until we see a break in the supply. I now shoot primarily Nikon mirrorless, and love it. I miss some of my Fuji glass but Nikon works well too.
You really are coming into you own with your on camera presence. Great video, enjoyed it.
Thanks Mark! Old dog learning new tricks. Not quite like you that's for sure.
I hear that it will be 26mp. The autofocus needs to be on par with sony or not far behind.
We shall see what they come up with.
Nice.
I can agree with the explanation on quality of high iso performance, ibis, af performance and things like that.
Physical attributes:
Not everyone has the same Physical attributes.
Sundar yes I agree with the issues regarding size. This is just my opinion for my needs. So as always take it with a grain of salt, lol.
@@KirkWilliamsonphotography ... agreed with love 💘
Yes Bill totally agree. I hope to heck they don’t think they need a video camera instead.
Kirk, Great intro on your feeling for the new Fuji XH2' as am old fart I stick to my MP240 and other Leica's cameras that I have. Cheers 🤟👍
@@KirkWilliamsonphotography yes new body and new tech!
Yes Elias I like your Alfa Romeo reference.
@@KirkWilliamsonphotography Fingers crossed 🤞 that Fuji deliver a stunning XH2 at a reasonable price point.
Torinsall - Most everything is kind of a user experience thing and totally subjective.
@@KirkWilliamsonphotography LOL...so true!
1. Remove the top lcd
2. Less shallow grip
3. Smaller body like the xt4
You're pretty much asking for an xt5 right?
I've been on XT-2 for a while now and I'm having very high hopes for XH-2. Great video.
The focusing with your eye is old Canon technology. My old film EOS Canon cameras had it. I do not know why Canon stopped using it.
Very useful comments ,
Oh my god dude you are so right fast auto focus and normal iso is what a modern camera should have no matter what brand i am not talking about fujifilm its a world famous brand dont they have that basics? this is basic , why bother with them? only for film modulation? but i can make his post processing even better
I just want them to catch the hell up with everyone else.
Nigel I always described the fully articulating screen as a flippy screen since it took too long to say and write it. I can't stand the thing.
I desire faster accurate autofocus with animal eye detecting as the other manufacturers provide. The other desire is more lenses for wildlife. The other factors are minor.
The 100-400 is a true wildlife lens in my opinion.
I’m hoping they don’t bugger it up. But I know the X-H2s has the flippy screen. Everything else seems to be in there but who knows.
So basically the most amazing APS-C camera ever made? Got it. :)
Haha yes Harold! That’s what Fuji needs to do in my mind. Which probably won’t happen. I need to cut back on my expectations.
Got to agree with the flippy screen
I agree a better auto focus is needed but you simply can't compare a $1600 Fuji to a $6000 Sony or Nikon or Cannon. That's crazy! To make a photo you need light, 6400 ISO with no grain? See above comments on $$$. I think the image stabilization is pretty good for stills and you said you don't shoot video? I don't think you'll be getting everything you want from the new camera sorry to say. lets just see how it goes in May. I'm OK with my X T4 and XPro3. Just got back from Africa and they performed well compared to the A1's in N9"s in the group.
Hi, if the X-H2 needs to be like the X-T4, why don't you just stick with the X-T4 ?!
I don’t own an XT4 dam flippy screen. I can go with a little bigger but it needs to be lighter.
Talk about wanting your cake and to eat it too. You want FF ability in body smaller and lighter than XH1? The XH1 is light. Lighter than the XT4.
The X-T4 weighs 1.16lbs the X-H1 weighs 1.48 lbs so no it doesn't
AF is a huge deal to most people. IMO it needs to be top notch.
fujifilm always focuses on less necessary features; no all medium quality, all good quality according to price ranges; always mix good things with bad things; please keep camera price low and sell view finders, flash separately
Fujifilm always high quality.
Flippy screen is a dealbreaker for me. I want XH1/XT3 style lcd screen. By the way, having the D-pad on XH2 would be great too.
And, a properly working remote software for everyone!
Yes the dam software, uggh. You would think they would try to get that right.
I want the flippy screen. No one wants to vlog with an external monitor mounted on it. Lol. Have to add an adapter too since the normal hotshoe is taken by the microphone.
Fujifilm needs some fast telephoto lens with fast autofocus. Fujifilm is useless for sports.
The 200 f2 and 90 f2 make it possible but a challenge.
@@KirkWilliamsonphotography try shooting football or soccer with a 300mm equivalent. A 400mm or 600mm is needed for field sports.
The Fujifilm XH2 will either make or break the company as Fuji really needs to come out with a huge update
So true!
You could be very right!!!
Fujifilm as a company will be just fine, even if the whole camera line went away. Fujifilm make more money on medical, by a wide margin. They also hold many patents on everyday products, that they get a nice payday from
AF!!!!!!!! need to better.the rest a bonus
Pointless comment.
I can already see you wont be happy with anything Fuji does
Leigh I hope I am pleasantly surprised
Blah,blah,blah !
Sorry John, it had to be said! No one else was.
