    I've got an iiyama Vision Master Pro 502 - CRT monitor - 21" connected with BNC to a SY-K7VIA Soyo motherboard. Worked like a charm in it's day.

    That is a very good CRT monitor for gaming, you could overclock it even to 200hz, i would recomend 1280*1024 at 120hz, 1152 *864 at 140hz or 1024 *768 at 156hz. Diamondtron/Trinitron monitors were a dream for Quake/Counter Strike gamers

      Love my Gdm F520, playing Smash 4 on it looks just insanely sharp

      I wish i could get a Trinitron or a Diamondtron CRT for free. I've got in the past an AOC Spectrum 9GLR and at high frequencies was pretty sharp and reactive. I have to check at a classroom mate's garage, because he has many CRT monitors, and maybe i can find something

      And after months i've got for free an LG Flatron F900P, 19" CRT with 110Khz horizzontal frequency. It needs focus adjustment tho

      That NS ı have F520's little brother, G520 :) With its 130khz horizontal frequency, ıt does 1920x1440 at 85Hz!

    Lack of focus is often a sign of a worn out CRT tube...
    Adjusting the focus pot will most likely make it unsharp in the middle or in the corners, while not getting it sharp on the whole image.

    • @ManOfAttitudeLP1998
      @ManOfAttitudeLP1998 Год назад +2

      You can get it to have the same sharpness across the whole screen though

    That's NOT how you do it, you need to set the resolution to 1600x1200, used a calibration app to run a readability test (the NEC monitor test program is great for this) and adjust BOTH the focus and F2 potentiometers until you get a sharp result (these are very sensitive). Finally you want open a fully black image, set brightness to 50 in the OSD and adjust the SCREEN/G2 potentiometer until the black stop being fully black to get the brightness/screen setting back to their factory values. (as electron guns degrade over time, the voltage has to be adjusted, the more hours the tube has, the more you need to crank up the power, the SCREEN potentiometer is also very sensitve), on diamondtron tubes such as the iiyama vision master pro 454 in the video, everything is done using potentiometers, in Sony Trinitron set, G2 adjustments are done using the winDAS service software and a RS232 serial connection to the monitor, this is more cumbersome but allows for a more refined tuning.

      Thanks for the tips, got my 451 looking much better
      Although there is still horrible green/red tinting on mine, and unfortunately looks like the only to properly adjust is them to desolder the eeprom and manually change the cutoffs (way above what I'm capable of)

    I used to have one of these monitors and the quality was fantastic, sadly I decided I didn’t need it anymore one day and just binned it (along with all my old pc equipment, 3dfx cards and all!) Kicking myself these days, should have been more of a hoarder 😞

    For anybody inspired to try this, please, please invest in a plastic "TV Tuner" screwdriver kit. They only cost a few bucks and you won't die when the screwdriver slips. Also, a rule of thumb for the amateur electrician: keep one hand in your pocket at all times. It's a hassle, but it means that if you get zapped the electricity will not go in one arm, pass through your heart, and out the other. It can mean the difference between a very nasty jolt or literally dying.

    1:44 I know that this is an old video, but I want to throw in that actually both of these pots are for focus, the one for voltage/power is near the white pot on the bottom. I was able to set my iiyama's focus to an almost perfect level with both of the focus controls.

    • @Akalvirp
      @Akalvirp Год назад +1

      hey, do you know which one is for adjusting brightness? I rotated the white one at the bottom but it had no effect on the brightness, monitor is still too dark

    • @plaidzior
      @plaidzior Год назад +3

      @@Akalvirp There should be three black pots there, the brightness looks exactly like the focus but is labeled SCREEN. But first check if you can adjust the brightness in the service menu

    I have a question for Dave: I'm still trying to adjust my Philips 107B monitor. It's a 17" CRT which uses dual focus. I've been trying to adjust it just by turning both Focus Knobs on the flyback transformer, after I replaced it. I can't get all parts of the screen in focus at the same time. Somewhere on the internet I've read that you should adjust the grid voltage. How would I go about doing that? Is there something else I'm missing? (I'm commenting in English for everyone to read, but I'm actually Dutch so a reply in Dutch is ok for me) Hope you can help.

    I have a 17" IDEK Iiyama MF-5317 from June 1992 but it has some problems with focus and red color. Red colors are really dark on it while green and blue looks okay.

    • @douro20
      @douro20 6 лет назад

      If adjusting the red doesn't help the most likely problem is the red gun in the CRT.
