The problem on this channel is that we never have any Arsenal fans to represent us so we end up with stupid and baise content. Patrick Vieira would get into the Prem best 11 as a DM and the France best 11 as a DM he has an engine like Kante, he was aggressive like Keane, He had great tackling ability like all of them but genetically he was better then all of them he had long legs and could reach out and nick the ball past players with speed and counter like Yaya Toure and the opposition always hated battling against him as he had height and a good build which Kante did not have so this debate should be Vieira 1st etc. Because Kante wouldn't make it to the France best 11 ahead of Vieira so how can he be ahead of him in the prem.
In terms of peak, it is kante. Won the league with frikkin Leicester, next season won the league with Chelsea, then won the world cup. Was also a major part of all success. Kante was everywhere at his best. The more older I get, the more I appreciate Roy Keane and what he did for us. My memory is hazy, I'm not sure if he was as good as kante though.
Vieira wasn’t a defensive midfielder. He was a box to box midfielder. In that 04 team, Gilberto Silva was the ‘defensive midfielder’, in any sort of modern sense
Exactly. He started his career as a dm and transitioned to the 8. Vieira and Keane bothe played as box to box in their primes. Petit was the dm and Gilberto came next.

Does Rory watch a different sport from everyone else? Rodri may right now be the best DM in prem history. Second to Busquets in the world last 2 decades
I think I’d put Michael Carrick ahead of Fernandinho based more on his European successes, Equal on Premier League wins and very different stylistically, Carrick was a major component in Man Utd wrestling the PL back from Mourinho’s dominant Chelsea side.
The idea that Rodri is a passenger at City is ridiculous. His ability to break up plays is what allows the rest of the front six to go forward in the fashion it does. He's also drastically improved his ability around the box and scored several critical goals in huge moments. His goals against Bayern and Inter were massively critical to winning Champions League. Same with his goal against Villa in 2022. He's a wonderful all-around player that far surpasses Kante. Yes, Kante was elite breaking up plays but that margin with him and Rodri wasn't significant and the rest of the areas where Rodri shined.
Also, Rodri has been way more fit than Kante. He plays 50-60 matches per season. Kante had a bright run for 3-4 years but broke down after. He only averaged 18 starts per season in his final four years.
Patrick Vieira is comfortably top of this list. Fernandinho is currently the best exponent of a DM on this list. Rodri will go down as the Greatest. Kante had the best peak of any player here.

the boys have the worst ball knowledge i’ve ever seen, especially rory, i have no idea how they’ve made it so far in this career path ahahaha
didn't realise barca was in the prem
@@jaforgah just a sign of the world we live in
In the prem, I'd put Fabinho in for Liverpool, won every trophy, lost v v few games, Allison, VVD/Matip, Fabinho, Firmino is one of the strongest spines of all time, achieving defensive stats just as good as chelseas under Mourinho, all time Souness by a country mile.
Rory's bias is ridiculous. Of the 6 here, Kante is by far the most limited on the ball, in terms of distribution and progressing play. Potentially the best at winning the ball (alongside Vieira), but most limited as a DM. The pure destroyer. The rest had alot more to their game.
Rodri easily top 5 best DMs of all time and all football not just prem, when he retires.. This guy is just insane. He gives me Busquetts vibes but more physical and also him playing in the premier league helps.. Absolutely the most important player in terms of individual roles in this crazy Mancity treble winning side.
As an Arsenal fan I would give a honorable mention to Ji Sung Park
He was an attacking mid?
They re talking about defensive midfielders mate
Not a DM
Kante and rodri have been in the league almost same amount of time. And rodri is the last while kante first !! Gems by rory!! And rodri been in the league longer than makelele as well.
Do you even remember Viera, you mentioning Keane as if he was better than him
@@kimjongun2540 most of the things I remember do not include people kicking a ball into a net I am afraid.
@@andrewpatch5027 weird to put them in this list really. They should do a 6 best box to box instead with these two in the conversation
Rory is so deluded
Carrick should be included in a top 7
I think it’s impossible for people to be unbiased when it comes to these types of debates. I think you’d have to ask former players to debate this. Would be more interesting I think
xabi alonso must be crying right now
Kante ahead of Keane and Viera is just plain madness. I love Kante to bits but Keane and Viera were monsters, and the era they both played in were full of monsters. If we are talking base on ability Kante was below both players but in terms of achievement you can make a case for him.
Ability he’s better aswell, just because he can smile doesn’t mean he wouldn’t have been able to play in that era
kante is clear of both, you’re letting nostalgia cloud your judgement
@@jaforgahkante gets overrated because he could run nonstop for 90 minutes, he couldn’t defend like the above two, or attack like the above two.
@@jaforgah he just ain"t tho? kante had a few great seasons and fell off,,,keano and viera DOMINATED the league for years and years...yoou have tiktok brain delusion
@@risheeeesh512Stop this nonsense, nobody with his right mind will see Kante play football and think he is overrated. Waffler
Man why did I think this video was going to be about the best direct messages people have received from footy players 😂
One of the hardest positions to rank because of how consistent these guys were. Having seen all of them in their prime, I would rank like follows:
1. Kante
2. Viera
3. Makalele
4. Fernandinho
5. Keane
6. Rodri
I don't really see it as a debate. Rodri should be at the top in terms of a 'holding midfielder' he is what basquets was to Barcelona in the best team of all time. Rodri was arguably the most important player in what is the best prem team of all time. The Spanish intelligence of the best footballing brains I've seen. Plays with his brain not his body would always be one step ahead of the likes of Vieira and leave him chasing shadows
As an arsenal fan I hate praising Utd. But the fact Michael carrick wasn’t on this list is criminal. Probably the most underrated player in premier league history. God knows how many seasons at Utd giving that team balance and never recognised.
Man City without rodri still win 3 out of 4 league titles stop the overhype of Rodri. He ain’t on viera and keanes level. Stop it ffs
Sergio Busquets better than all
Viera was a box to box midfielder kante and makelele just sat in front of the back4.totally different.gilberto must be in the conversation.
I said carrick as well, I’m a gooner but how he is overlooked is beyond me. The only people who appreciate him seemingly are the guys he played with
The idea that Rodri is a passenger at City is ridiculous.
No particular order. Vieira, Keane, Yaya, Makalele, Kante, Rodri, Carrick, ince, Essien, Fernandinho, Alonso, Petit, Park, G.Silva and Ferguson
Busquets better than all
as much as i hate him, rodri is one of the greatest of all time. he always scores big goals, hes a rock in defence and an amazing orchastrator. Not to mention his insane durability. The single most important player in that city team. His accoldaes are numerous and hes still has so many years ahead of him
Kante played in a two. As a 2 in his first season with Conte, under Tuchel a 2 and Leicester. It was only Sarri and Lampard that did it as 3 and still he shon.
Idc how short his prime May have been. Kante perfected the role of Destroyer.
Love Kante but not sure why he’s top of this list - his probably the best out and out defender with Makelele but in terms of all round DM I can’t put him above top 3
As an Arsenal fan i love Viera, he was absolute beast in middle, but i cannot believe that Yaya Touré is not in this discussion:
1. Viera
2. Keane
3. Yaya
4. Makele
5. Kante
6. Rodri
Wasn’t yaya more of a box t box 8 rather than a 6
Carrick is so underrated
Leon britton
Gary Speed deserves a shout. RIP
Dietmar Hamann deserved a mention.
😂
Can you guys please debate and help me settle a pub argument the best centre back ever in football? The list we got is:
Ronald Koeman
Billy Wright
Daniel Passeralla
Sergio Ramos
Fabio Cannavaro
Alessandro Nesta
Gaetano Scirea
Franco Baresi
Bobby Moore
Franz Beckenbauer
I don't expect you to do but if you can help me please settle why Allesandro Nesta was the GOAT be awesome
Thanks guys!!
Even Fabinho has more prem games than Makelele. I think Fernandinho was great, but prime Fabinho was better. "To me" as Buvey always says. I’d put Fernandinho bottom of this. Then Rodri, then Kante, then Makelele, then Viera, then Keane. But I think Rodri will become the best if he stays until he’s 33 ish. But if I made my own list, I’d swap Fernandinho at 6th with Fabinho.
How old are you ffs. Fernandinho is faaar better than any version of Fabinho
Fabinho better than fernandinho is absolutely criminal from you
1, Keane
2, Vieira
3, Makalele
4, Fernandiho
5, Rodri
6, Kante
plus arsenal have never won the league since the season viera left and its always been said arsenal miss a viera kante is like vieras successor but viera wipes floor with him
Kante wasn't a CDM. Drinkwater, Jorginho etc played deeper, Kante was a box to box midfielder who could play DM when his team needed.
Just based on PL career:
1. Roy Keane
2. Patrick Vieira
3. N'golo Kante
4. Claude Makelele
5. Michael Carrick
6. Fernandinho
Kante could play in a midfield two but make it seem like three were playing - but Viera and Keane above him IMO.
Adam actually called it
What disrespect to Xabi Alonso...
Nah Alonso was better in Spain.
If Fernandinho is in this conversation, Carrick is in this conversation.
Losing 1-0 to the treble winners (and favourites to win the treble again) is not a bad result at all
i feel like they just do the same top "x" every week but slightly different. they have done like 4 times already
Why does Rory talk like he knows the most when he just chats bubbles?
Keane wasn’t really a DM and neither was Viera until their legs started to go. They were more box to box players. If we’re talking pure DM then Makelele is the goat
Best DMs Ever:
Defensive Mid:
1. Mathaus (Volante)
2. Pirlo (Regista)
3. Keane (Volante)
4. Viera (Volante)
5. Kante (Destroyer)
6. Casemiro (Destroyer)
7. Busquets (Regista)
8. Makelele (Destroyer)
9. Rikjaard (Destroyer)
10. Socrates (Volante)

@@dashawnballard52 Socrates was a DM

Why is Michael Carrick not here?
Wasn’t that good lol

@@latrellspencer9229 he was a better player than Fernandinho and Makelele for sure. He won more premier league titles and trophies than any of those players mentioned bar Keane.
Was a great player, just gets forgotten because he was quiet and outshone by other players in that team. He sat in the centre of midfield behind scholes and cut out anything in there and could probably pick a pass better than any of the players mentioned in the video.
No one knows
@@samjames1207 stop embarrassing yourself 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Viera, Keane, Makelele, Rodri, Kante, mascherano, Carrick
Rodri is better than all of them.
Rory always fights to have Chelsea players top of his lists. Kante is fantastic but over Viera? Jog on man
Last season Liverpool was way worse and we went to st James park and kept a clean sheet in a 2-0 win. We wasn’t favourites last year
I just don't think Viera or Keane were DM's. I reckon they were better footballers overall but different roles. Like Kante was probably the best DM I've seen just defensively
Salah is off to Saudi lads also you forgot Gilberto Silva
Maybe I'm not updated. But why aren't these guys doing the kick off anymore? 😢
Geordie was racist and lost all his money
If Busquets played in EPL he would be miles ahead of everyone in this list.
But… he didnt 😂🤣🤦♂️ if heskey had 300 goals he’d have the most in prem history, if Bournemouth won every game they’d win the prem and if kepa didn’t concede any goals he’d be the best keeper in the world 😂🤣 like what a stupid thing to say

Miles ahead? You joking? Busquets is an all-time great, and he might be ahead of Vieira and Keane, but certainly not ‘miles’ ahead. For me it would be Vieira, Busquets then Keane.
Kante not really a DM though, legend outstanding box to box, mobile, great engine, tough tackler and great player but can't win headers, didn't hold and distribute like the others in that defensive central midfield role. Not top 6 in strict DM role for me. Current order, Keane - Viera - Makelele - Rodri - Fernandinho - Kante. If Rodri stays at City he will top this list at the end of his career.
all amazing players. Kante has to be 1 for me
I mean, how strict are we being here? Are we talking sitting defensive midfielders? Destroyers? Can we include box to box midfielders?
Why would you include box to box midfielders in a conversation about DM's? Its like a totally different player profile.
