    I know Lachie quite well. I’ve coached him and he isn’t the only one to run this well and these times. He, along with his training partners, are all on the improve. The state of Australian sprinting is very good at present. We have a relay team that will make the finals in any event and the young cohort will improve. Also, this is still early season and the group have metres of improvement left in them. He is a humble boy - take a close look at his right arm and ask yourself why is it bandaged too. Happy to jump on a vodcast if you’d like me too.

  • @tiaanwhelpton_
    @tiaanwhelpton_ 4 дня назад +3

    Hey Tiaan here, I came 2nd in that 60m with a 6.50.
    Firstly, major respect for not just being hater like most seem to be about this.
    Here is my 2 cents on indoor vs outdoor 60m times:
    Are indoor 60m and outdoor 60m times directly comparable? No, of course not. But then again neither out any two sets of outdoor 100m times. I think everyone can agree a 100m time ran at La Chaux-de-Fonds (998m) with a (+2.0) is on a whole other level to a 100m time ran at sea level into a headwind in a cold country - and yet they still fall under the same rankings table/top lists/qualifications etc. By this logic I think it's entirely fair to have indoor and outdoor 60m times in the same rankings and allow outdoor 60s to count for qualifiers since the effect of conditions is probably less from indoor to outdoor 60m than it is comparing any two random 100m times. Also it's not like the rest of the world is forced to only run indoors, Jamaica and South Africa for example have been running outdoor 60s for ages and nothings stopping USA and Europe from doing the same thing.
    I also think people are also grossly overestimating how much a tail wind would help you in a 60m by comparing it to how wind affects 100m times. Wind is going to affect you exponentially more in a 100m where you're spending more time in said wind and comparatively more of your race running at top speed (where wind resistance is higher)
    Id also like to point out (and you can see this in the video) we're all using small beat up blocks - and the track itself is fairly worn down. Now this isn't enough to negate the advantage of the wind - but I'm sure we'd have run faster with proper blocks on a new mondo surface laid ontop of boards or basketball courts.
    Unfortunately we just don't have the facilities on this side of the World - despite NZ actually coming 2nd in the medal table at World Indoors in 2024 we dont have any indoor facilities, and neither does Australia. For many years we were somewhat excluded from what is essentially half of Track and Field (albeit the much smaller half) and we had to pay thousands of dollars out of our own pockets (funding this side of the world is almost non existent) to travel overseas just to have a chance to run a 60m. I think World Athletics realized this is an issue - and for sake of inclusivity decided to expand the indoor format to "short track" drastically decreasing the barrier of entry and opening up that side of the sport to the whole world. Afterall - it's supposed to be a "World" Championships.
    That being said, I understand some people's reluctance to want to include Lachies time in the Top 10 all time performances. Even though Ackeem Blake already has a windy time in there. But at the end of the day our sport has to grow and evolve or it will die. The same way new records are being set with new shoes, track material etc. Imagine if we still ran in dirt because people wanted to keep the sport as pure and consistent as possible for all time.
    I love short track - I love indoors. I think with the world heading more towards shorter form content in general this side of out sport is going to grow alot in the future. It's more intimate and enjoyable to attend as a spectator and easier to turn into an easily digestible and fun event as a whole.
    Now in regards to the accusations and rumors that the race was dodgy or not legit:
    The reason we all ran PRs is because we've all barely run any 60m races.
    I ran a windy 6.58 end of last year, Lachie ran a 6.55 in the rain a couple weeks ago.
    Most of us only ran our first ever 60m last year with the rule changes to short track. My 6.66 previous PB was quite literally the first 60m I ever ran in Pamplona last season.
    Also I'd like to point out we all ran quick in the heats to. Me and Lachie both going 6.52 - so not like the clock just glitched out in the final.
    Also you can't argue the track is shorter or something is off in general because then the women would have run equally crazy times right after us - but they didn't. And Zoe was in that race who placed 4th and World Indoors last year. I was also at WIndoors last year (came 21st) - you can see me beating Lyles to 20m in the heats. That was my 2nd time ever running a 60m.
    But yeah, at the end of the day we all know times only mean so much, and unless you were in the same race you cant really compare - so we will be looking to back up these performances at WIndoors in Nanjing later this year 💪

    • @tiaanwhelpton_
      @tiaanwhelpton_ 4 дня назад +1

      Also - he ran 10.17 into a (-1.0) the day after the 60m as his 4th race in 2 days - so fair to say that 10.20 PB is very outdated.

      People aren't being haters, they are being cautious about the hype wagon. Remember Matt Boling?..and many before him?
      People want to see new talent.
      Scientists have studied literally thousands of marks ran by elite athletes and they know exactly, or within a very close error, how much they assist. They also know how much altitude assists. its no mystery why Canberra has a bunch of athlete PBs. And the published converters, most famous by Jonas Mureika, are notoriously conservative. Those who have followed the sport longer than you've been alive will recognize this. That being said, the Morieka tables give +1.6 and 500m above sea level, +0.06 over sea level and no wind over 60m. So, i'd expect him to run a low 6.5 indoors if he ran right now. still impressive...
      and as far as his 10.17 into 1m wind..tables say its a 10.13. we can only speculate but a genuine 6.50 translates to a sub 10 100m...there are a very small number of the 50 or so athletes that have ran 6.50 that haven't gone under 10s, and several of them are hurdlers who dont run the flat 100 competitively when in form.
      you yourself just ran a 6.50 and your 100 PB is 10.14..prior to that your PB was 6.66 in the same year.. are you suggesting that in the World Atheltics league, you'll go sub 10?..i think you are underestimating how much advantage Canberra gives.
      LAst Year Torrie Lewis ran 11.10 with +1.6 in Canberra..and ran 11.44 in Brisbane, 11.40 in Melbourne, 11.54 in Tokyo..

    Gratitude to you Coach Rob for creating a credible platform with which to present adroit observation and analysis on this oft under-appreciated under-represented sporting expression! Those who exist true afficionado's of this athletic idiom will observe young Mr. Kennedy's sprint mechanics! The body lean the knee lift /foreleg extension and the power generated by his faultless arm action! I-exist a student albeit middle-aged of the Bud Winter school of sprinting-the same institution that produced those sterling San Jose State, Arizona State, Auburn, USC and Houston squads-young Mr. Kennedy clearly putting work in toward his arrival on the world stage; now clearly World Class in laying down the posted 60m times while representing Australia in the sprint disciplines! Though these times-exist early, they serve notice to any and all regarding his improved sprint acumen! The present coterie of sprinting elites should not sleep this young man as he will likely push them to lower times given the likelihood of his start and subsequent drive phases to top end will set him fastest through 60 meters in any competitive outdoor 100 meter event! Apologies Coach Rob for the length of this reply-will endeavor to lower my next commentary (split-ran 3rd leg on all 3 sprint relays)... Peace

      Not entirely mad, I mean last year Christian Coleman and Noah lyles fought tooth, and nails for that 60m gold medal!!!! the sport is growing

      @ I mean not really Lyles just had more races under his belt that's why he beat Coleman at the US champs. At world's it was pretty clear that Coleman was going to win. He ran 6.49 or 6.48 in the heats then 6.43 in the semi final and 6.41 in the final.

    It should be common knowlege to all track fans that running indoor will not produce faster times in comparison to outdoor.
    Bolts indoor 100m world record of 9.98 for example

      3 of the top 4 guys were in the Aussie 4x100 team that missed the final (0.05 behind Italy) but ran a time that would have won heat 2. Maybe do some research before shooting your uninformed mouth off.
