I have been unioronically using this laptop/netbook. I've been traveling and had to sell my good laptop (HP 8770W) and so I'm stuck with the Mini 311. I'm still using it with Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit, as a backup to charge my phone, play old games, browse the web, even Discord and Steam still work (but only one at a time). This thing is a total nugget but I love it and even when I get a new laptop later I'll still keep it.

Solid video! I bought a 311 from Goodwill recently and did 3 upgrades that have this running AntiX Linux as modern as possible:
    1) Swapped out the hard drive for a low budget SSD. Boots up and loads programs much quicker.
    2) Maxed out the RAM. I have 3GB running with no issues.
    3) Get a USB Wifi dongle. The built-in Wifi is a data bottleneck and the USB dongle will create a faster connection to your wifi setup.

On most laptops that are not business models, (thus, basically all netbooks) you can also upgrade the internal wireless card. I have done that on several systems over the years. It is slightly more involved but avoids using up a usb port and improves battery life and portability slightly.

@@I430VX I messed up a netbook's wiring I got last year trying to do a card swap. I go the USB route to not mess up any more internals.

That GE Clock-Radio you have sitting there is the exact one I had in my room as a kid. The nostalgia...

I've got two of the HP Netbooks, and one Dell Netbook. The Models of the HP Netbooks are 210-2090NR (Running Peppermint OS) and 110-3518CL (Running Manjaro OS). Both are maxed out at 2GB Ram. The 210 has a 256GB SSD, whereas the 110 is still running an old 160GB (5400 rpm) HD. I really don't use them on the internet anymore, chief purposes is movie viewing (using VLC), music (Spotify or preloaded MP3's) and taking notes at conferences and such. Both netbooks are 64bit, so I'm surprised the Atom CPU in your netbook 32bit. The Dell netbook is a 32 bit. Thanks for the video!

Mid to late 2000s tech is so nostalgic.

I literally have this same laptop on my lap right now, thing doesn't connect right to wifi and its slow ... If i upgraded a few parts .. could i possibly run the sims 4 on it? Cause my dream is to get the sims 4 on a pc and pirate the $1000+ dlcs for the best experience? Probably not high graphics but could it handle it?

AntiX is mostly so fast because of its window manager, IceWM, which is one of the lightest out there. It's definitely a good choice for hardware like this. I think the main problems I'd have with it on something like a netbook would be the low screen resolution and having to deal with bloated websites like RUclips. A couple years back I tried installing Linux Mint XFCE on my own netbook, and it ran decently fine, the main problem was the screen resolution was so low that important programs literally would not fit on the screen. I could see this being a huge problem if you're hoping to use Discord on one of these, although I suppose using it in full screen could help out a bit. And, of course, the world wide web has gotten a lot more bloated in past years, and you probably won't have a good experience with RUclips at all. A potential remedy could be copying RUclips video links into VLC or MPV, which means you just get the video itself, no bloated site and background/ad scripts. Definitely a great overview overall, I love seeing old tech be given a second chance.

I tried Q4OS on a lower end pc (Fully upgraded Dell Latitude D800) and it played RUclips videos better than Windows did. I was able to watch a livestream at 480p!

you should give void linux a try. it's lightweight and you get to install your own programs if needed. i run void with i3wm on an aspire aoa150 and it runs pretty damn well

I think Chrome might be better for RUclips, my 2GB RAM laptop can't play 720p fullscreen on any other browser whatsoever, but I never had a netbook so I'm not sure.

I'm still using my HP mini 210-2100 with 2GB ram, 5.5 GHZ atom. I'm using the windows 10 32-bit version and still working good. It's dual booting with Puppy Linux FossaPup 32-bit edition. Still working awesome, but that's not fast. I'm using it to watch RUclips videos at around 720 resolution. I have a more powerful computer, but I still use this from time to time if my wife is using the other laptop. :) I'm using it for this comment!
