There are a number of charity pages which have been set up to support the families and friends of those affected including; **Manchester Evening News:** www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/westandtogethermanchester **British Red Cross:** www.manchester.gov.uk/news/article/7688/the_we_love_manchester_emergency_fund_launched_in_partnership_with_the_british_red_cross Our thoughts are with all those affected, the All The Stations Team.
I'm sure it was just a slip of the tongue Vicki, but it made me laugh - the Suffragettes were campaigning FOR the womens' right to vote, not against it !!
Geoff, your story of getting a cab ride when you were a small boy reminds me of my one and only cab ride. It was while we lived in Maidenhead and I was on a train with a forward view through the driver's cab with my grandpa, a great railway / train enthusiast, so I imagine it was the branch line from Maidenhead to Bourne End and Marlow - and maybe High Wycombe in those days. It must have been before we moved back to Leeds in 1967, so I was probably about 3 or 4. The driver saw me looking through the window into his cab, so he invited me into the cab to "drive": I remember wondering why his seat was on the left but the "steering wheel" (the hand brake) was over the other side of the cab! He let me stand next to him as he drove to the next station. I remember the excitement of it, even though it was 50 years ago. That makes me feel very old.
Nice to see Mitcham Eastfields, Jct, Hackbridge and Carshalton completed, All in and around where I used to live about 9 months ago. Makes me happy to see them again :)
Having lived in Tadworth (one stop back from Tattenham Corner) as a child in the 1970s (1974-78) I also remember it being Chessington Zoo. Also saw the Queen as she went from Tattenham Corner to the Derby at Epsom one year. I think there was also a train crash at Tattenham Corner at some time in the past. The trains in my memory were BR Blue (no grey) and with no corridors, so you were trapped in tiny compartments. Horrible, dark and smelly sticks in my mind.
The Tattenham Corner rail crash occurred in 1993 when a train failed to stop, smashed through the buffers and ended up imbedded in the station building which later had to be demolished. Luckily no one was killed or badly injured. The driver of the train was found to be drunk on duty and was later jailed.
I derive a great deal of pleasure following you on your journeys around the London underground an all stations north south east and west of there. Thank you.
Haydons Road! Closest station to the recently-closed Wimbledon Stadium dog track, and soon to be the new home of AFC Wimbledon football club. Fun fact: AFCW's mascot, Haydon the Womble, is named for the station.
Having lived for a few years in Tadworth in the 1970s, good to see that line. Better trains now than back then. Saw the Queen on Derby Day between Tattenham Corner and the Racecourse in, probably 1976/77.
Good to see Purley station, my almost local station (Kenley is my local, but I walk to Purley for a bit more exercise). I went to Tattenham Corner yesterday for a mooch around (taking a photo of the Emily Davison Drive street sign), and walked on the racecourse, so it's great to see this video just the day after.
Glad it's not just me that prefers the old "back of the map" detailed maps that used to be available online! Shame the LaSER one isn't updated any more, but it's still better than the current offering!
Back when Geoff and Vicki had a problem at my local station :D . We have a Geoff in our family who used to rush onto Southwestern trains at Leatherhead, many times before another Geoff did!
Did a small dance when getting off train on my way home from work when I saw Tolworth station 😊 wishing for lovely sunny weather in cold wintery Melbourne ❄️
You didn't say that Epsom downs station, used to be nearer the racecourse. And was a double line, until the coal yards were removed and the houses were built on that land. Also Tattenham corner station, used to have a unique all timber black and white ticket hall, until it was burnt down.
Obviously an old video, but this is a hell of a trip for me. Currently live in Coulsdon, with Woodmansterne being my local station, and I commute into Wandsworth for work (via Purley/East Croydon), so I do the train splitting/joining on a regular basis (have also had to use Streatham on occasion). I also used to work in Tadworth, with Tattenham Corner being the main station there, and also used to work in Leatherhead. As well as that, but at the time this series was filmed, I was living in Ewell, with Ewell West being my local at the time, as well as Epsom seeing frequent use about a decade ago when my gf at the time lived in Shirley, which took me through West Croydon. During that short cab segment as well, I believe you came out onto the Ewell bypass, just down the road from where my grandad lives. A lot of this video was like a run through my late teen-adult life haha
I am confused. You got on a Train at Epsom Downs (Sothern rail Service, going North, into Victoria via Sutton) but the next shot is a problem at leatherhead, some 6 miles away, south west, getting on a South Western Train. All a bit peculiar. I live halfway between Tattenham Corner and Epsom Downs Station. I used to Live at Worcester Park. I like Epsom Downs, nice idyllic single track through the countryside into dreary Sutton ,and then London.
That must have been a thrill for you as an eight year old to get a cab ride like that. The closest thing like that which happened to me was when, at a similar age, I was, with my parents, changing trains at East Croydon, and one of the station staff saw me staring up at the newly installed Solari indicator on the platform (which had just replaced the fingerboards) and said "Do you want to alter it?" He then led me into an office to press a button, and then said, "Now go back outside and see what you've done." I had just altered the board to display the train we were intending to catch!! Re: the declassifying of First Class, the same applies on the Kent services through Dartford, as a few 465's were refurbished with First Class, that occasionally find their way onto the suburban routes. One thing I've found with the Electrostars though, is that the First Class seats are not that more comfortable than the Standard Class, just less crowded at busy times...
Although Epsom Downs Station is further from the racecourse, it did used to be closer than Tattenham Corner. Epsom Downs used to be a 9-platform station, although was closed in the 1900s and moved further away from the downs, with a single platform and singled line, with the bulk of traffic terminating at sutton or rerouted
Grew up around Epsom mainly up at Tattenham corner, the old station house there use to be cool till some train driver drove his train through the ticket hall, also got the chance to visit the old signal box there years ago
Mitcham Eastfields brings back bad memories. Missed my stop at Streatham and the next stop was Mitcham Eastfields. As it was a limited service, there was no trains going back the other way! So I attempted to find a bus going back, but to make things worse my phone had run out of battery. So ended up walking 1 mile in the wrong direction. Decided to go back to Mitcham Eastfields and get a train to Balham, then go back to Streatham from there.
You have done my line now, Shepperton branch (we are at Fulwell) but have left out Strawberry Hill. Must be a pain in the a.. to have to go back for just this one stop.
I had a ride in a South West train sitting in the first class from Hull to Scarborough a few years ago! I think Northern Rail had taken some of the trains but had not yet changed them to Northern Rail colours or taken the first class out. Only time I have been on a South West train.
I grew up in Purley. You used to be able to go to Brighton from there in 30 minutes or so and the train was always so empty you can get in on a regular ticket and sit in first class.
Re your cab ride on new sliding door stock. Are you sure it was a 455 Geoff? The first trains to replace the slam door 2 & 4 EPBs (4Subs had already gone by then) were four car class 508 stock. The 455s came along later, with the 508s reduced to three car units and sent to Merseyrail. The spare 508 vehicles being incorporated into the second phase of 455s. Easily spotted by the different roof line.
Once again, a very interesting episode but suburban London is familiar turf for me :) There is so much good stuff left to cover; Especially looking forward to East Anglia, Wales, Northern England and Scotland!
We are loving this series, even if we have only just found them! Watching them in South Carolina as ex pat Brits. Did we miss an episode somewhere, seen your visit to Canterbury West, but did you go to Canterbury East? This was our old stomping ground some 60 years ago!
worcester park!!!! its so weird to see familiar places in these vids, its like how on outnumbered they go to wimbledon and mentioned new malden on the a3 once... theyre completely irrelevant places (apart from wimbledon) so when theyre mentioned its like wow, i know that place like the back of my hand
An interesting fact about Tattenham Corner station is that trains destined for London head off in the wrong direction, south, towards the next station, Tadworth, before starting to make the turn which will head them in the right direction towards London which lies to the north east of Epsom
I guess because they decided to traverse though the Chipstead valley, the terrain dictates going south and east, before heading back up north into Purley and Croydon.
Been enjoying ur videos of visiting all the stations, maybe next project could be Guinness world record for most miles in a week, I tried once to see what I could do, I managed just over 10,500 miles on a 7 day std class all line rover in the 90's, was a mad week.
Interesting fact the original ticket office at tattenham corner was destroyed by a drunk train driver who didn’t slow down and drove into it luckily no one was hurt!
My first few times in London a decade ago involved commuting from Streatham to London Bridge to get from relative's house (they live in Canada now) to some family friends in Canary Wharf
Am I the only person who is downloading these to his phone and showing them to random foreign tourists, demonstrating that Britain is still great and eccentric?
Was not Smitham To Victoria the most late/ cancelled train always got mentioned on LBC Travel News every morning. The Line from Chessington South was supposed to go to Leatherhead, but got cancelled when Green Belt Planning Restrictions Came In.
Just a thought, but you know what would really help? A cut scene of a map of your journey for the day and the points you get off at as you progress, saves me having to look it up when I don't know the area well!
yup... we agree! but that's also loads of work, and don't have the £100,000's budget of a mainstream TV programme. this is RUclips, done on a budget, and we're doing well for it too!
I actually thought pretty much that when I clicked on reply but the deed was done by then. Progress graphics or otherwise, another quality webseries, thank you.
Great to see Chipstead formerly Chipstead and Banstead Downs on All the Stations. Now waiting for the Dartford Loop. Just be grateful that you're not doing this pre-Beecham. Thanks for the tip about first class. Paper timetables have value over digital. ☺️
Surprised you didn't mention at Chessington South that it was built as a through station-hence the unused 2nd platform-for a line that was never built to extend and connect to an adjacent line🎩
Chessington South, Chessington North, Coulsdon South, Ewell West, Ewell East; but East Croydon, South Croydon, West Croydon. Should the cardinal direction precede or succeed? Who decides? Should we the people get a vote?
Alex Preston Re North, South, East, or West before or after the area name of a station is simple. If the area was already properly called, for example South Croydon, North Woolwich, East Grinstead, or West Malling etc then the station name reflects this. If the station is built in a area where the town is simply, called for example, Coulsdon, Canterbury, or Ewell etc, then the North, South, East, or West goes after the area name to denote the area of the town where the station is situated or to differentiate them when there are more than one stations in a town.
The seats on the more modern units all look thin, narrow and horribly uncomfortable, even in 1st Class. I've used a Southern train to and from Brighton once and it was not a particularly comfortable experience.
MontytheHorse There's been changes to fire regulations over the years meaning they can't use as much padding as they used to. They'll never be able to design a seat that suits everybody.
Ham Street I get that. However the new seats on refurbished ScotRail 158s, which I presume are to the latest standards, are wider and more comfortable. As are the seats in the 170s, which IIRC are contemporaries of the 377s.
MontytheHorse I've seen complaints about the Thameslink trains being uncomfortable but I found them really comfortable. You'll never design a seat that suits people from 4'8" to 6'5"+ in varying weights. I don't think when they refurb a train they change the actual seat frame' they just replace the upholstery which is probably covered by a different set of rules. On really modern trains they're really maximising the space that's available in the carriage. Commuter trains (like Southern use) and long distance trains (like Virgin use) are designed very differently.
Geoff if you don't do Fort William to Mallaig in Scotland till the end because it does steam trains nearly everyday (to my knowledge) so you can have your wish
Wondering when you're going to make it to My old hometown Ashtead? Haven't been there since 1967. Perhaps next Year, if you want another challenge, do all the stations in alphabetical order.
The terminal stations at Tattenham Corner and Epsom Downs are very close to each other. It's a shame a through line can't be built connecting them. It would make for a very handy loop line if a connection was made.
Trevor Dance very close are relative words, I have walked between Tattenham Corner and Epsom Downs stations, it is not a quick journey to walk from one to the other. It is easy to get lost trying to get from one to the other if you don't know where you're going. When I first tried it, with some mates of mine, we got lost in the woods by the golf course
The elevation is quite different though. They are just under a mile apart, about twenty minutes to walk. Epsom Downs is about halfway down the North side of the Downs.
A lot of stations have the white round help points with information buttons. Im not sure if pushing the information button triggers an automated announcement or if it just calls someone in a help centre.
Another fab video. loving the facts. but sounds as if one or your mic's is playing up..giving a bit of a crackle. 7.03. Probably I only notice it as I have to wear earphones. apart from that all looks great fun 'train surfing'
At 10:46, the right side of the screen is blurred out, something I haven't noticed in your other videos. Did one of the boarding passengers request to be obscured for some reason?
Vicky: "Emily Davidson who jumped out in front of the King's horse in the protest AGAINST womens' right to vote". I think you'll find it was in the protest FOR womens' rights to vote. ;)
Please can you go to Earlsfield (EAD). Its located between Clapham Junction (CLJ) and Wimbledon (WIM) on South West Trains. Trains come approximately every ten minutes.
I'm confused as to why you missed Horsham - surely you would have stopped when on the Arun Valley line, as you went up past Pulborough in an earlier EP?
Cambridge North (CMB) station is now open as of last Sunday morning - does your itinerary include stations that opened after you started this adventure? (To be fair, a lot of Cambridge-Ely trains will stop there 'for free'.)
the first class thing is technically correct, but i'd be doubtful to get it past conductors, who often 'know' a lot or think they do, but actually often don't know details well
I'm not sure i understand why Tattenham being the closest station to Epsom, is ironic because that's the station the Queen uses when going to the races there. I would've thought it's the opposite of irony.
Neither "Epsom Downs" nor "Tattenham Corner" are close to Epsom, the town. Both over a mile away, although "Epsom Downs" station is a bit nearer. There is a third station "Epsom" in the town. They are all on different lines. In 1989 they moved Epsom Downs station even further away from the racecourse.
How on earth can you see Wembley Stadium from 'Epsom'? Btw I remember with my school to go to Chessington, and we had to run from World of Adventures to Chessington South, all 300 of us! Not a lot of people are quite fit tho.
I can see Wembley from my bedroom Window, and I live on Epsom Downs. It is some 15 miles away, but the Arch is pretty distinctive on a clear day. From the Grandstand car park, you can see Heathrow, Wembley, Central London, and Canary Wharf skylines. Epson Downs is pretty high up, and looks down into the London Bowl.

Very nice gesture there guys. #PrayForManchester :)
All The Stations It's horrible what happened, but I think we all respect your decision to wait until a more appropriate time to release it.
very thoughtful gesture. my thoughts and prayers are with people involved
Absolutely respect your decision. My thoughts are with everyone involved too.
Vicky = "I always have my glasses on, it always helps" another great one liner
Her best one liner was: Chessington North, just like Chessington South, but north.
Vicky is definitely the star of the show.
Geoff, should have gone to specsavers!
"A small problem at Leatherhead." It sounds like a Sherlock Holmes mystery. Or a chapter heading from War of the Worlds.
We're learning about the war of the world's
I'm sure it was just a slip of the tongue Vicki, but it made me laugh - the Suffragettes were campaigning FOR the womens' right to vote, not against it !!
I knew someone else would spot that!
Vicki's reaction when Geoff suggests getting an ice cream...
Hywel Mallett I wanted to see if they got their icecream or not :)
Geoff Marshall yay! :)
#AllTheRefreshments
Pure gold that reaction !
It was adorable wasn't it?
Geoff, your story of getting a cab ride when you were a small boy reminds me of my one and only cab ride. Geoff - May I humbly submit that you should get glasses that actually FIT you? They'll be much more comfortable and secure...
Can't believe Vicki didn't take the opportunity for an "Underground / Overground" reference at Wimbledon! :-)
Interesting fact about Epsom Downs and Banstead stations; they are both technically located in Nork.
Having lived in Tadworth (one stop back from Tattenham Corner) as a child in the 1970s (1974-78) I also remember it being Chessington Zoo. Also saw the Queen as she went from Tattenham Corner to the Derby at Epsom one year.

Your production values are spot-on. You've some amazing equipment working for you.
That look when Geoff mentioned ice cream. Priceless :-)
I like this video but really feel Geoff could do with some bigger glasses that actually fit over his ears! :P
Having lived for a few years in Tadworth in the 1970s, good to see that line. Better trains now than back then. Saw the Queen on Derby Day between Tattenham Corner and the Racecourse in, probably 1976/77.
The suffragette was called Emily Davison, not Davidson. And she was protesting FOR women's right to vote, not against :)
Lovely video and respect to you both for the pinned post.
Nice to see my local area, mainly Carshalton Beeches.
heck worcester park is where i used to live for literally my whole life this makes me so happy
I GREW UP ON THE ROUTE UR UBER DROVE
FUCK
THAT WAS SO WEIRD TO SEE
me tooooo i lived in wimbledon but worcester park/sutton is the bulk of my childhood
Good to see Purley station, my almost local station (Kenley is my local, but I walk to Purley for a bit more exercise). Not local but I often visit family in the area and use Riddlesdown station for it
Riddlesdown is very close to my house too. It's a lovely station in a lovely area.
Strange for me watching this as a mancunian is I have been to some of these obscure ones. Purley back in 1980 and Canterbury West in 1980 too.
8:08 Mitcham East field's staggered platforms are similar to that at some of the Toden Arakawa Line which is however a light rail/tram system.
All the All the Stations, binge watch, day 2, “Episode 10, Day 16”. That’s my daily dose of meta sorted.
Caterham's my home town. I'm gutted how you skipped over it!
Loved seeing all of Merton and surrounding areas - moved out of London in 2008 but love seeing my old stomping grounds (from Morden)
Did a small dance when getting off train on my way home from work when I saw Tolworth station 😊 wishing for lovely sunny weather in cold wintery Melbourne ❄️
As an American, these videos make me very jealous of Britain's robust rail transit system.
It's all smoke and mirrors and held together with a combination of sticky tape, string and gum.
Spencer O'Dowd me also
Your silly American
We have the same problem

Yes! Wow takes me back. These videos you're doing are brilliant. I'm not sure how I'm going to cope when you finish😭
OMG yes. I enjoy them so much it's the best TV show currently airing hands down :-)
The female hippopotamus there loved the Marmite sandwiches which I used to feed her in the late 60s.

"Streatham", and that's about all you can say about it really
St Reatham darling, St Reatham
Hoppity tunnel between Kingswood and Tadwoth, possibly the shortest tunnel on the network, love the videos good luck
The late Phil Sayers voice still being used on the information point at CarlshaltonBeeches station.

yup... we agree! but that's also loads of work, and don't have the £100,000's budget of a mainstream TV programme. this is RUclips, done on a budget, and we're doing well for it too!
I actually thought pretty much that when I clicked on reply but the deed was done by then. Progress graphics or otherwise, another quality webseries, thank you.
Did Vicki ever get an ice cream?
If you went to Horsham, you would have gone through Ockley, my uncle used to live in the station house there!
Always thought that Purley is in Surrey. Just realised that it is actually in London, but only "purley" !
Great to see Chipstead formerly Chipstead and Banstead Downs on All the Stations. Now waiting for the Dartford Loop. Just be grateful that you're not doing this pre-Beecham. Thanks for the tip about first class. Paper timetables have value over digital. ☺️
ninepinezine I think apart from 1 or 2 lines they've done all the stations on Southeastern now.
Beeching did not cut many lines in the South East. He lived there!
Seems very apt to be watching this on a Chiltern train from Birmingham to Marylebone.
South Merton right next to Morden South - can nobody agree on a system?!
Alex Preston
Re North, South, East, or West before or after the area name of a station is simple.
Vicki looks lovely
NO, you were so close but you just missed my station, New Malden, I guess I also go to wimbledon alot though
Vicky's outfit is spot on!!!
like the quent buildings. love the video.☺
STREATHAM!! that's my local train station although Streatham hill is closer but doesn't serve theamslink
Great soundtrack. Can I buy it anywhere?
Souvik Mukherjee A bit late. But it's on iTunes Spotify and is also on RUclips. Hope this helps
I think you'll find it was in the protest FOR womens' rights to vote.
;)
I come from Wimbledon, Haydons Road Station was my nearest station it looks smarter than when I was a kid
Please can you go to Earlsfield (EAD). Its located between Clapham Junction (CLJ) and Wimbledon (WIM) on South West Trains. Trains come approximately every ten minutes.
They went to all the stations except for Earlsfield.
Was the train at 9:04 a 321 or a 319 because if it was, I guessed correctly.
I'm confused as to why you missed Horsham - surely you would have stopped when on the Arun Valley line, as you went up past Pulborough in an earlier EP?
Chessington North. That's my manor. Wish I could have seen you
Cambridge North (CMB) station is now open as of last Sunday morning - does your itinerary include stations that opened after you started this adventure? (To be fair, a lot of Cambridge-Ely trains will stop there 'for free'.)
Yup, it's on their list
Where does the Queen board the Royal Train to go to Tattenham Corner?
Thanks Geoff, I suppose it had to be. Presumably she doesn't have to sit in the rear of the train to avoid ending up in Caterham.
Nick Johnson she comes by car nowadays. There and back. Stopped train years back
Same on the medway valley line if 3 car 375/3 you can travel first class.
Yay you're coming back to Horsham! this time film!!!
They never got there
They have been to Horsham. Just not via Dorking/Holmwood/Ockley and Warnham.
the first class thing is technically correct, but i'd be doubtful to get it past conductors, who often 'know' a lot or think they do, but actually often don't know details well
I'm not sure i understand why Tattenham being the closest station to Epsom, is ironic because that's the station the Queen uses when going to the races there. I would've thought it's the opposite of irony.
because there is actually a train station called Epsom Downs and it's further from the race course
Lovely, on my part of the network now.
I've got a small problem at leatherhead is my normal reaction to my home town. Welcome it's always this bad!
Geoff, what map app are you using?
How on earth can you see Wembley Stadium from 'Epsom'?
Btw I remember with my school to go to Chessington, and we had to run from World of Adventures to Chessington South, all 300 of us! Not a lot of people are quite fit tho.
You can see Wembley from Banstead too. Both Epsom and Banstead give awesome views across the London skyline.
There's one particular spot on Epsom Downs where you can see this.
Worcester Park!
haha you went to my local station carshalton beeches
Merstham has a yellow info box on Platform 2 - bit of an odd station
Did you see at chessington south thre was 2 456's coupled on to 1 455 Geoff
Which video has holmwood ockley warnham and horsham
