Planet Zoo is generally speaking superior, but the Zoo Tycoon games are so much easier to get into and I'd recommend those for younger people. I've been playing Planet Zoo for almost 4 years now, tried to go back to Zoo Tycoon 2 for fun and the limitations were really annoying to me after being used to Planet Zoo.
I've been wanting to try Planet Zoo, but I'm curious about building actual buildings. Do they come custom-made, or do you build them from the ground up?
@@johnathonclayton6964 There are some custom blueprints you can start out with. Once you start to understand the building mechanics you'll want to start making your own builds though. I guarantee it.

@@cookiecroc4247 Jurassic World Evolution 2 just doesn't offer the same level of editing abilities as Planet Zoo, or even Zoo tycoon 2 did, especially when designing habitats. Very samey fences, plants can only truly be put using brushes that fit the biome you're in (the individual plants you can put count as decorations rather than nature), ground brushes can also only fit biome... and 0 building abilities compares to planet zoo or even planet coaster....
one feature from ZT2 that i don't see mentioned alot that i wish PZ had was the interactive 'zookeeper mode', remember how in ZT2 you were able to walk around, take pictures, open gates to enter exhibits, fill the animals wood/water, clean up dung, wash the animals, etc? i get it's supposed to be a management game but god was this feature amazing, it's the one thing that kept me from never getting bored of playing
Planet Zoo takes way too much effort to learn and I'm content with what ZT2 has to offer! If you don't want to spend 4 hours designing one building, you should play ZT2.
I think the ZT2 is fueled more by nostalgia, it cant compete with planet zoo much. The only + that ZT2 in its sleeve is water animals and fishes (water animal shows)

Planet Zoo is clearly the superior game, but for me it wasn't as enjoyable to play as Zoo Tycoon 2. I feel like in Planet Zoo you have to be able to detail in order to enjoy it to the fullest and yes while you can download ready made enclosures from the workshop and use the vanilla ready made assets they still look bad in the game because everything around it is poorly detailed. In Zoo Tycoon 2 I feel like you could play the game in a more simple way, and yes while you can still go mad into detailing I feel like it wasn't a huge aspect of the game, l had really good looking Zoos with only vanilla assets without much detailing and I was able to focus more in what I enjoy the most about these games, making my animals happy and build a functional Zoo.
Zoo tycoon 2 is a lot easier to just get into, like by the time you're done with one enclosure in planet zoo you're probably on your 5th in zoo tycoon, but it's a lot less in depth and gets boring quicker imo
Didn’t take me long, just mess around with stuff is all. Make prefab nature groups to cover up the ground to make it look cluttered, give more space so you aren’t restricted by how many plants are in the habitat.

Tied? Sure Zoo Tycoon has a much simpler UI which makes it easier to pick up and in theory the mods are better but a lot of the ZT2 mods are just normal things in Planet Zoo. Zoo Tycoon 2 without mods isn't very good at all. No Way you can even compare the two on that level.
I prefer Zoo Tycoon 2 bc with mods you can add almost every animal you can think of and you can put a lot of mods in the game without it lagging and the building is easier

I think the building parts of Planet Zoo could be more user friendly, maybe they should add more mechanic research nodes to give us more already built things. I’ve always had this dream game in my mind that has all the best aspects of both games. The graphics, animations and building capabilities of planet zoo but the zany, unapologetic variety and modding versatility of the Zoo Tycoon series.
I love Zoo tycoon 2 . The addons are great. Planet zoo is also great. I would recommend zoo tycoon 2 for kids and adults who doesn’t want a realistic experience and planet zoo for all people they want a realistic experience.
I personally disagree as I think this is mostly graphics based... Zoo Tycoon looks cartoony but is a much more fleshed out management simulator, whilst Planet Zoo looks realistic but the management is very barebones

It's near and dear to my heart. But Planet Zoo just offers SO much more and can easily handle the biggest limitation of ZT2 and then some
I want planet zoo to incorporate the conservation areas from zoo tycoon 2. I like mixing animals together to recreate their natural habitats, these zones would allow multiple males to have territory to defend to have their own herds so that you could slowly rebuild a wild population in these zones.
I probably got this recommended to me because I just started Planet Zoo, I am struggling with the UI and just to create barriers properly, yes I went through the tutorial but even in the tutorial my animals got loose because apparently I did the barrier wrong 😂 I do think I'll enjoy Planet Zoo once I figure it out but as a newbie the UI is weird. You have to click like four or five different buttons just to get a new animal cuz you have to go to the adoption part then the placement part which is two different windows. I played ZT1 and 2 a lot as a kid. I look forward to playing more Planet Zoo!
Yeah, the PZ UI is a menu-filled hellscape if we're being honest haha On barriers, always check the zoopedia page of the animal you're building for first. The resistance grade, climbability and height requirements are on the second tab. Choose a barrier to match. When you're about to place it, double-check the settings in the bottom right. Make sure it's on undulating, this will ensure it stays the same height no matter the terrain. If you want a flat top, you can always edit afterwards and raise the lowest segments to the same level as the highest. If you do it all correctly, you should have fully secure habitats first try. Unless you place something they can jump off of right next to the edge OFC lol
Zoo Tycoon 2 was the best zoo game for the longest time but has its age. Planet Zoo/Planet Rollercoaster games are absolutely fantastic and do their job so well and brings me an updated game that I can enjoy and remember my days with Zoo Tycoon 2. I'm so excited. I didn't realize that Planet Zoo came out on consoles a few days ago until now. Immediately bought it. I'm so excited to get addicted 😂😂
So, I decided to revisit this short and take a look at what everyone else thought. All I can say is I understand where both sides of the coin are coming from... On one hand, Zoo Tycoon 2 UC was the go-to game for kids like me back in the good old times, especially those who liked all sorts of animals (yes, even dinosaurs). But what made it stand out was that it took the premise of running a zoo and had so much fun with it, adding features like marine animal shows and stopping angry dinosaurs. Even to this day, it still holds a number of fans who continue to have fun and make mods for other players to enjoy. Now on the other hand, with all of these advances in game development, its not so surprising that Planet Zoo has the best graphics. The attention to detail on all of it's animals was breath taking and its free form of building was a welcome addition unlike Zoo Tycoon's more restrictive building. While I can see some disappointed fanboys mourning the lack of marine life and dinosaurs, I'd argue that Planet Zoo is essentially aiming to be a more 'realistic' approach to running a zoo in a game while also having its own share of being fun without being silly. Heck, you might unexpectedly come across something gone wrong or outright hilarious in your time managing your zoo. TL:DR - Both games are winners. Zoo Tycoon 2 took its premise and had a lot fun whereas Planet Zoo actually tries to be a more 'realistic' zoo simulator with tons of care for its premise.
This conversation kind of reminds me of The Sims 2 vs The Sims 4. Yes TS4 is a lot newer, but older games tend to be better focused on making a good game and that was their way of getting your money. And cutting corners wasn't seen as an option in game dev, as much as it is nowadays. (TS2 vs TS4, TS2 with mods and CC wins)
Planet Zoo mods will be much better after official support ends. Zoo Tycoon mods were almost none existent while ZT 2 still had official support. Planet Zoo mods will be amazing just not yet.
Planet Zoo is superior. You can do WAY more than what you can do in zoo tycoon and the animals are more realistic in size. Literally in zoo tycoon 2 a trex is the same size as an elephant... But zoo tycoon will always hold a special place in my heart.
As a modern console player, I’d like to recommend Jurassic World Evolution (2) (aside from Planet Zoo console coming soon). Good graphics, animation, building, etc

I think the dinosaurs would be too easy for Zoo Tycoon since Planet Zoo doesn’t have any, so to make it fair and to still give Zoo Tycoon a point, I would say great choices in animals, because at least that game didn’t give us BS like the Himalayan Brown Bear, Raccoon or King (Not Emperor) Penguin

Farm Sim has actually moved away from true farming, which is animal husbandry and crops to freaking production chains. They have lost focus on a real farm. This disappoints me very much. Why would you say zoo tycoon 2 mods are better. I feel like there’s a lot more the can and is done with planet zoo mods also planet zoo and zoo tycoons I feel are much to different to compare . Nah, Planet Zoo is much more restrictive in modding. There is hard limit of only 240 animals (and that include unmodded animals too) And making new rigs and animations is just outright impossible.

Planet Zoo/Planet Rollercoaster games are absolutely fantastic and do their job so well and brings me an updated game that I can enjoy and remember my days with Zoo Tycoon 2. I'm so excited. I didn't realize that Planet Zoo came out on consoles a few days ago until now. Immediately bought it. I'm so excited to get addicted 😂😂
So, I decided to revisit this short and take a look at what everyone else thought. All I can say is I understand where both sides of the coin are coming from...
On one hand, Zoo Tycoon 2 UC was the go-to game for kids like me back in the good old times, especially those who liked all sorts of animals (yes, even dinosaurs). But what made it stand out was that it took the premise of running a zoo and had so much fun with it, adding features like marine animal shows and stopping angry dinosaurs. Even to this day, it still holds a number of fans who continue to have fun and make mods for other players to enjoy.
Now on the other hand, with all of these advances in game development, its not so surprising that Planet Zoo has the best graphics. The attention to detail on all of it's animals was breath taking and its free form of building was a welcome addition unlike Zoo Tycoon's more restrictive building. While I can see some disappointed fanboys mourning the lack of marine life and dinosaurs, I'd argue that Planet Zoo is essentially aiming to be a more 'realistic' approach to running a zoo in a game while also having its own share of being fun without being silly. Heck, you might unexpectedly come across something gone wrong or outright hilarious in your time managing your zoo.
TL:DR - Both games are winners. Zoo Tycoon 2 took its premise and had a lot fun whereas Planet Zoo actually tries to be a more 'realistic' zoo simulator with tons of care for its premise.
Mods keep zoo tycoon 2 great
This conversation kind of reminds me of The Sims 2 vs The Sims 4. Yes TS4 is a lot newer, but older games tend to be better focused on making a good game and that was their way of getting your money. And cutting corners wasn't seen as an option in game dev, as much as it is nowadays. (TS2 vs TS4, TS2 with mods and CC wins)

Planet Zoo mods will be much better after official support ends. Zoo Tycoon mods were almost none existent while ZT 2 still had official support.

This, there is some really cool mods already, but because they are constantly having to update them every couple of months they wind up falling behind

Planet Zoo is superior. You can do WAY more than what you can do in zoo tycoon and the animals are more realistic in size. Literally in zoo tycoon 2 a trex is the same size as an elephant... But zoo tycoon will always hold a special place in my heart.

Planet Zoo not having dinosaurs makes it bad. This is the same reason I don’t play call of duty. No dinosaurs.
zoo tycoon 2 is a W game
As a modern console player, I’d like to recommend Jurassic World Evolution (2) (aside from Planet Zoo console coming soon). Good graphics, animation, building, etc
Zoo tycoon 2 was so nostalgic i used to play that and roller coadter tycoon 3 on windows, planet zoo is my new favorite but zoo tycoon 2 dated well still fun to this day

I think the dinosaurs would be too easy for Zoo Tycoon since Planet Zoo doesn’t have any, so to make it fair and to still give Zoo Tycoon a point, I would say great choices in animals, because at least that game didn’t give us BS like the Himalayan Brown Bear, Raccoon or King (Not Emperor) Penguin
Bro what? Ain't no way you just said that having different animals that KIDS don't really like in a game that IS NOT for kid... zoo tycoon is for 3 years and up... thats who plays it. All the teens and adults go to planet zoo if they want a realistic and in depth game. All the KIDS go to other games.. planet zoo literally contains animals getting injured, killed, sick, and attacked by others.. I think it's safe to say it's not for kids 3-11. You can't compare a silly game to a serious one, they aren't made for the same people, so yo can't compare them fairly. But that doesn't give a right for children who don't like bears and penguins or just the fact they don't have DINOSAURS in a ZOO game to call it "BS"... You literally proving that you can't rank them fairly with this: "so to make it fair and to still give Zoo Tycoon a point" You can't compare them fairly, and thats that. You have to give free points to zoo tycoon, apparently, for it to be fair

@@an_odd_guy I wish the animal modders on zoo sim wud train the people at Giants on farm sim how to create ANIMALS and ANIMAL PENS for a different variety of animals. Farm Sim has actually moved away from true farming, which is animal husbandry and crops to freaking production chains. They have lost focus on a real farm. This disappoints me very much. If there any animal modders for zoo sim....you cud make a mint of money by building an ANIMAL DLC for farm sim. Just wishing tho. Thanks for info.

Why would you say zoo tycoon 2 mods are better. I feel like there’s a lot more the can and is done with planet zoo mods also planet zoo and zoo tycoons I feel are much to different to compare . All thought the both zoo management games they work very different and planet zoo is much more complex the zoo tycoon 2.

Nah, Planet Zoo is much more restrictive in modding. There is hard limit of only 240 animals (and that include unmodded animals too) And making new rigs and animations is just outright impossible.
What about the DLCs?
Mods in Planet Zoo are just additions to the vanilla game. In ZT2, the mods are the game.
