    This is video is like some 1993 bill nye science guy video. And it’s only 10 yrs old. With the music playing while you’re talking. Two people taking turns. It gave me 90’s nostalgia.

    I have the identical 335 used in the video and the heavy steering to body roll issue can be solved for under $1,000 with the installation of upgraded springs, it will also give you the rake of the of body style too. Personally I went with the H&R springs.

    • @findingrush
      @findingrush 8 лет назад +12

      Upgrading springs without upgrading the dampers is quite stupid. Non-M BMWs are known to be under-damped, so by adding shorter springs with higher spring rates, you will get a car that handles even worse than factory. Do it the right way and get dampers (Bilstein, Koni) and springs.

      RSR Auto people like their sport springs lot of them people have them it's a just a budget mod to fix the wheel to body gap so

      @@findingrush or match h&rs with the appropriate shock. i.e. a cup kit already tuned to the vehicle. no presets. good for most drivers

    i have an f30 335 in a 6 speed manual. i upgraded the suspension to BC racing coil overs and changed the exhaust and absolutely love the car. its a blast to drive. i would never even consider buying the lexus and even less the cadillac

      Well, that's all well and good, but you're kinda missing the point. One shouldn't have to run out to the aftermarket and do the engineering that BMW SHOULD have done in the first place. In my mind and most 3-Series lovers, the last good 3-Series was the E90 generation.

  • @EverydayDriver
    @EverydayDriver  11 лет назад +2

    There's was certainly an opportunity to do an alternate, 4 cylinder version of this comparison, with the 328, the ATS Turbo 4, and the IS 250. However, we went for the high-end 6 cylinder versions, so these three become the closest matchup. Thanks for watching and we look forward to your thoughts on the next two sections.

    Have you had this problem on other reviews we've done, or just this one? This was mixed with the same levels as our other work, and it's generally not a problem. However, this is a song we don't use much so we'd be curious if it's a combination of the song & your speaker range or if it bothers you on all our work. Thanks for the thoughts.

    I’ve had one for a few years, 80,000 miles with no real issues. It’s fast, good looking, has a great interior and gets good gas mileage, it’s really a great daily driver. Sounds terrible unless you get an aftermarket exhaust, though.

    2011 E90 335d - Twin Turbo Diesel so fun to drive through the canyons and back roads! 425 lbs.ft of torque - more torque than the M3 and M4.

  • @EverydayDriver

    Our rigging here was no different than it is in any other review - and as you've seen we generally have little to no shake. It bugs us here too, but its a factor of the road in this case (which was pretty but far from smooth) more than anything else. There's always something to improve on. Thanks for watching and liking what we do! Please share us with others!

    • @krasnaludek298
      @krasnaludek298 7 лет назад

      6SpeedTA95 Drove both of those and it's not even close ... the BMW 335i is the way to go; better performance and looks far better (admittedly subjective). My 2nd choice was the Audi A4, then Cadillac ATS, Mercedes, and Lexus at 5th.

    • @6SpeedTA95
      @6SpeedTA95 7 лет назад

      I disagree, I own a 2015 335i M Sport. The chassis in the Caddy and Lexus (assuming F Sport package) are better. The BMW engine/trans combination is fantastic and in terms of raw numbers its hard to go wrong with the 335i. In terms of driving feel? It's got nothing on my friend's that own E90 cars. Lexus drivetrain is dated, but the dynamics/turn-in etc was better.

    I would imagine it's an easy fix with better springs or possibly struts.

    • @kimchee411

      M sport suspension is same as sport line unless you opt for m adaptive, but sport mode in m adaptive is very similar to non-adjustable sport suspension, no lower. M Performance suspension (not a factory option) is the way to go.

  • @EverydayDriver

    You've hit on exactly the reason why the Lexus is included - with the updated GS and the new IS, they are trying to offer enthusiast versions of their cars. Cadillac is in a similar place with their new models. So, we wanted to put them against the 3 series benchmark. As far as Mercedes and Infinity go, they didn't have a new/updated model available yet for this comparo. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!

    Replace the run flats and find a temp spare on the internet. At least on E90's, it made a huge difference in ride, road feel, and probably even grip. Toss the spare in the trunk any time you venture far from home. When you sell it or turn it in, put the run flats back on (or sell them on ebay, as they cost more than non run-flats)

    BMW used to be known for making the sportiest handling cars on the market (within their classes). Now they're best at making engines. Their cars are some of the heaviest because they still use ER welds whereas other luxury carmakers are moving towards more efficient methods of welding and use of alluminium. Although, I'm expecting them to catch up with their next gen platforms, I don't think they will ever be heads and shoulders above their competition like they used to.

    On the front end, it is because of pedestrian safety. To get the highest star ratings in crash tests, cars nowadays have to offer 100% not only for passengers, but also for pedestrians getting hit.
    The above from what our dealer told us. We own a 2012 1-series, and it also has the flat nose. It grows on you after a while

    How long can BMW rest on its laurels and chase volume leases before the brand becomes nothing more than a status symbol? (which it already is for many of its current lease holders) Or does BMW want to become Mercedes and build luxurious, large cars that just happen to have tons of power?.

  • @mongostuntman

    That is correct they were both brought to market the same year. However, the following year the 2.3 16v cosworth was brought to market and did very well and the racing curcuit. The acclaim to fame for the BMW sedan was in response to the 16v w201 which came in 1986 with the E30 M3 which was magnificent. Without that all important car a BMW sedan would just be that today.

    Disappointing of BMW, the handling and balance has always been the "piece de resistance" of the 3 series. I'm in the market, you think the 335is coupe would get me the razor like handling I'm craving for, or should I wait and splurge for the M4? Keeping in mind I don't need the extra power?

    Paul and Todd are spot on when compared to what other reviewers are saying about the f30; It's good, but not great. and that's what is disappointing especially for the price BMW is asking for the F30. Personally, i'd rather get a used e90 or even an e46.

  • @aznboi769

    Excellent review! The more I see/research the BMW f30, the more I want to keep my e92 335i and perhaps consider other brands. I agree that the front of the f30 (and it's almost twin but pricier f32 4-series coupe) looking pinched, the face just doesn't flow/fit with the beautiful side and rear surfaces of the car. It also just looks too big and "floaty" compared to past 3-series (e46, e90). I'm anxious to watch the next video to see if the new Lexus IS can compare with the Bimmer's handling.

    I have the E90 330i and I flirted with the idea to purchasing the new F30. I test drove the 328i and I was surprised that my E90 with 100k miles felt better. My steering, suspension and performance made me happy. This was the first time I left the BMW lot not envying the new 3 series. I'd stick to the E90 folks if you're looking for a 3 series.

    I've got a 328 M-Sport and the handling is amazing. I think the M-Sport is without a doubt the only way to own the F30.

    do you guys think the m4 will get a more tuned version of the 335 engine? since theyre both twin turbo v6?

    I think this BMW wasn't equiped with the DHP (Dynamic Handling Package) was it? Only the sport suspension (10mm lower, bit firmer, but without the eletronic dampening control)?

    isnt there an m sport package 1 and 2 for this car? i hear upgrades range from adaptive m suspension to even power boost and improved exhaust

    I think that the body roll could be a wide effect of not having the m sport suspension option on the car. Ithe only thing I don't like about the m sport suspension is that it's an option. It should be standard on the 335i.

    Paul and Todd, great video and comparison, though I do have to say I'm rather disappointed that the BMW came up short. I have never owned one, but its always been my dream to own one, and I was looking to get a 335i sedan over the next few months, so the fact that it came up short is forcing a rethink, hence the disappointment :-(

    I mean the M sport package, not the M3. With the M sport package u get fat low pro tires and stiffer suspension and over all a bit more sporty performance and equipment like seats, steering and a bit more responsive programming. The only thing that makes the new 3s diff from the prev 3 is the electric power steering.

    Actually I was a Lexus fanatic - but I decided to go for the 328 x drive and I have to say - it just feels like the best all round car . I now have
    168;000 km sine I bought it new as a 2014 model and now I am in the BMW camp . I had a 2007 Lexus IS 350 and I loved that car but the 328 just feels like Goldilocks.

    I have just upgraded my E90 330, which I have kept, replaced with a 2013 msport 328, if you are upgrading you must! get an m sport, then E90 owners will not be disappointed, in so many ways my F30 is far superior to my E90, not to mention more modern....both are great in their own way....

      From what I can find reading online the M sport handles no better than a no-line car with the adaptive suspension and a set of nice sized wheels/tires. The seats are better for those who find them comfortable. But it's something over $3,000 and you don't have the option of softening the ride w/o another $1,000.

      Bruno TaTa I just picked up an 328 is m sport and I have to agree with you on the seats .. They tend to be very uncomfortable on drives longer then 10 minutes...

    This is going to be an excellent comparison so long as they are equally matched (BMW 335i, IS 350, and ATS 3.6).

    In case anyone is curious -- the updated 340i is still very boring. I have the M Sport and manual, 2017.
    Pros: it's quick. The suspension is actually quite nicely balanced in "Comfort" mode. The engine is really buttery smooth. The available heads-up display is beautiful, easy to read, and displays just the right amount of information.
    Cons: The The steering is a disaster, completely lifeless and numb. I am selling mine after a year of wanting to like it. Switching the setting to "Sport" just augments the artificial heft/resistance, but it makes the huge dead zone on-center more apparent and more annoying. The E90 was one of the best sedans I have ever driven, so it was my dream car. IMO the steering was one of the biggest factors that allowed the 3-series to stand out as the "Ultimate Driving Machine." I imagine the steering slop is designed for the texting generation who might be prone to mindlessly sawing their steering wheels back and forth ...
