A useful resource to add to your description is Tetresse. It’s a tool that won’t let you place pieces without finesse. In other words if you make a finesse mistake, it’ll tell you the correct finesse on a tooltip and let you place the piece again.

  • @ralphschraven339

Since Tetris is such an old game, many of the folks you can find on the internet playing it are either absolute doofuses or absolute gods. In this comment section, though, it's nice to find some fellow souls of folks who want to get better at the game and are on the verge between the noobs and the pros. My PB is 1:39 on 40L, hoping to shave a full 40 seconds off of that after five practice sessions, then I assume progress will be slower!
My advice: set ambitious goals, find some like-minded folks, and don't be distracted by other people's over- or underachievement! I find it most rewarding when I notice the self-improvement and allow it to feel good, rather than to compare it to someone who was in a different realm of skill the whole time.

me: looks at what the very next piece is
other players: already hard dropped 5 pieces in the correct spot
    edit:
one of the tips: try to decrease the amount that you react by knowing where that piece is gonna go ahead of time
while on my end, me finding out beforehand where the next piece needs to go takes longer than my reactiontime

playing 40L will get you faster at tetrises, but that may or may not carry over to tspin settups or downstacking depending on whether the limiting factor is your ability to decide where to put the piece or your ability to place the pieces. it’s up to you to determine what the limiting factor is in multiplayer games!

    • @poryg5350
      @poryg5350 4 года назад

@@wawitetris5887 I'm not exactly sure this reason is relevant. It is not obligatory to use more fingers on keyboard, it is in fact mandatory if you want to have decent speed. You cannot have one finger handling directional movement, one handling turns, one handling hard drop and one handling hold and expect to be fast. The keyboard layout is way too unnatural for this.
Keyboard would be really awesome if tetris games allowed hypertapping. Having two sets of controls, asd and 456 for directions, qe79 for turning left and right, space bar for hard drop and 8w for hold. But unfortunately modern tetris games make DAS fastest by a mile.

    Hi Wawi !
What's your point about playing with a controller such as "8Bitdo SF30 Pro" to games like Jstris or Tetrio ?
I am a beginner, but I started to play with a controller, I feel more confortable with it. However, I want to be sure I don't have to switch to a keyboard in few months because I reach the controller limit. (I think it's fine, because I know Doremy is playing on PS4 controller, for example, at least on his account named "Sariel")

    • @wawitetris5887

you can play on a controller if you want, most of this video should still apply (although 180 spins weren’t commonly a thing back when I made this lol). I do think that keyboard has an advantage at the highest level, but unless you’re trying to be top 50 in the world or something, it shouldn’t matter too much

I watched maybe a handful of tetris videos, occasionally picked up a game of marathon tetris and played very slowly. Then about 3 days ago, I saw a video of a youtuber I like playing it. I got about 2 minutes in and decided to try multiplayer tetris. I went to tetris friends and made an account. And then proveeded to dominate (back to back wins) up until level 12 out of 21. Somehow, I just gathered the skill and speed to just get good. Now I am just looking to go even further beyond.
I crushed so many poor souls that day...
