Thanks for that! Would have loved it if you explained how to use the Expander in depth in Logic, but your video inspired me to reuse your words and walk myself through it as I worked on each knob. Thanks! Being a recording artist I hardly ever needed to reduce any noise floor, but now being a success coach there are many videos I'm working on with me talking, and some rooms are less than quiet LOL. I've got this one video where I went into a room at the co-working space, so it would be "quiet"! Omg the irony LOL. What a booming echo throughout the video. Working on that video now. Thanks George!

Great video. I just stumbled over one thing. You said "increased", though it will be attenuated, context: Compressor, the RATIO works as follows (Universal Audio): "Ratio specifies the amount of compression applied to the signal. This setting is expressed in decibels. For example, a ratio of 2:1 indicates that a signal exceeding the threshold by 2 dB will be attenuated down by 1 dB. A signal exceeding the threshold by 8 dB will be attenuated down by 4 dB, etc."

Judging by the video, the logic expander isn’t for downward expansion then, right? That’s good to know. I’ve been using it on vocal tracks with their “high expansion” preset to kind of tame low-level noise (keep in mind I had no idea what I was doing until now) and it’s been working fine. I only use it on softer vocals since soft vocals are usually paired with minimal production so you can hear the noise more. If it were used on belty-er songs, I’m assuming the belt sections would go through the roof with the expansion, so no need there since it’s usually a more dense mix so you can’t really hear the noise. Kinda just rambled there… Great video though!!

Interesting, I might use this instead of a gate as Logic's gate is pretty aggressive...

At 2:30 you say a compressor increases the output level by 1 db everytime the signal goes 4db above the threshold. That is incorrect. It decreases the signal.

She meant the expander. Expanders add extra dynamics/amplitude while normal compressors reduce them. Expanders are just compressors but work the opposite way.

Yes shaping them prior to hitting your output, you could also put this on the master and shape everything with it in tandem with a limiter to keep your peaks from going above 0db on the master chain
