    I lived in Perth from '87 to '89. Their freeway system was ahead of its time, bypassing the city on several routes. 30 years on and Adelaide is still stuck in the '70s.

    • @Roger__Wilco
      @Roger__Wilco 4 года назад +1

      Your driving experience during 1987-1989 in any city has no relevance to another city today, and Perth doesn't even look good anyway compared to Adelaide when it comes to traffic congestion statistics even before these upgrades were underway. Nice anecdote though :D

    Trying to get from the North of Adelaide to the South coast has always been a slow frustrating drive
    along that congested and dangerous South Road. This bypass should have been built long ago.

    Great road, great video, except the reality is that the Northern Connector is not covered with Ashphalt, the road is made of concrete slabs, which probably enabled it to be constructed in record time but will need plenty of maintenance in the years to come as the sun, erosion and wear and tear will break up the concrete surface. Just look at how much Grand Junction Road west of Commercial Road Port Adelaide has deteriorated in 30 years.

    Unless my map reading has deteriorated with age it appears if travelling from Port Wakefield to Adelaide you are committed to remain on the existing Port Wakefield road to the Salisbury Bridge underpass then on to the Port Expressway to get to the South Road Extension. The visualisation does not clearly show any other alternative. Going in the other direction is ok as there is a side road off the Northern Expressway which joins the Number 1 Highway by the Virginia Raceway. Maybe I am mistaken but this whole project has completely ignored the thousands of vehicles coming from the West on the Australia's Number 1 Highway and furthermore suspect the huge bottle neck from Waterloo Corner Road every morning will remain. Time will tell.

    • @trenchy1990
      @trenchy1990 5 лет назад +1

      you can come from virginia via port wakefield and onto the expressway. you will cross the expressway initially before going under port wakefield road towards the connector.

    • @chepachii
      @chepachii 4 года назад

      @@trenchy1990 you got it mate, The only thing people may whinge about until they get use to it is to access the northern expressway northbound from port Wakefield road, you have to turn left at Waterloo corner and onto the connector at the big roundabout. At the moment people don't realise and go past Waterloo Corner and are having to do a u turn at old port Wakefield road then entering the northern expressway on the southbound.

    Hey Look... I'm seeking to speak directly with the Premier of South Australia, as I have some questions. In particular to water use and consumption of water in your state, and your obligations to participate in environmental flows of the Murray Darling Basin as it enters your state. You have a massive desalination plant that it is still not operating at capacity due to ? Costs? No It is because the SA govt is unwilling to get onboard the government attempts to grow hay and fooder food, to ensure that breeding stock continues to be healthy. You have built this beautiful and wonderful motorway that has now connected your South with your North. I ask a question, and I ask the question, was there any forthought for: Water Pipes to run along side the motorway to open water to Norther Adelaide and up 500kms north. There is great opportunity for South Australia to become a state that can grow and delvelop sustainable ways of growing food.. The one big struggle in Australia, and to be honest it is an issue. Australia can no longer wait on nature to rain. South and Australia needs to become water self sufficient. You look to our Arab Allies and Friends. They have more fresh water through destination and it works wonders for their countries. South Australia needs to encourage more nutriment of the Murray river on the South Australia side. Regeneration of trees, widening of the river to increase environmental flows in the future. SA needs to work NSW Water as to be honest they seem best positioned to take strong leadership of the Eastern Rivers... As large percentage is now stored in NSW Dams, sitting at 82.2 capacity which is, I'msure you will agree is outstanding rain event.. a real boost to the Australia economy. Unfortunate nature is a beast these days. So we need to be working on climate mitigating. Investment in high speed rail HS2 in the UK is going to bring great outcomes for the UK. Please ensure that you will be attending the COP26 in Glasgow in mid November this year. SA has innovation and people who want to see change. It takes leadership to respond and work what is best for the people your state and the country also. Also, cycle tracks and working on 5G along your new motorway for future electric cars that Telsa will offering to the Australian market.. The South Australia Market. South Australia has existing factories that still stand but no longer utilied. Can the South Ausatralia government invest into the old car industry and bring it into the 21st century. Electric cars and trains, rail is the future..

    Is there a reason why the fly-through does not show the shared bike/pedestrian path?
    I was looking to see how it crosses Port Wakefield Road and Salisbury Highway, as I couldn't tell it's not just at-grade from the concept drawing.

    • @martythemartian99
      @martythemartian99 9 лет назад

      +Scott Davis The connector crosses Pt Wakefield Rd. at the start of the Northern Expressway and does not cross Salisbury Hwy. at all.

    • @sbdavisau
      @sbdavisau 9 лет назад

      The concept drawing showed it crosses Salisbury highway and continues west on the southern side to the South Road intersection. It is not clear if there will be bridge, tunnel, or have to cross both roads at level, quite dangerous if that is the case.

    • @martythemartian99
      @martythemartian99 9 лет назад

      +Scott Davis I think I understand now. The South Rd/Connector has a flyover from the Port Expressway/Salisbury Hwy (the north bound carriageway is already part built) and the Port Wakefield flyover is already in place at the northern end. I assume the bike path will continue on from the Northen Expressway if the Gov. can be trusted.

    • @sbdavisau
      @sbdavisau 9 лет назад

      The current north bound bike lane from south road is the wrong side of the carriage way to join the new path. At PWR, northbound cyclists currently cross six lanes at level. The current Stuart Ogrady path along the expressway gets a lot of cyclists who would not be confident to cross the main roads to continue along the new path.

    Having the northern connector run alongside port wakefield road looks messy and unneccesary. Couldn't they merge the connector into port wakefield road at Bolivar? Then have an overpass to turn onto the northern expressway.

    • @joshuawilliams994
      @joshuawilliams994 6 лет назад +3

      I think the point is to create a diversion so that those coming from Gawler/the North can access the South without having to go through the city, and those coming from up Highway 1 can head toward the city if necessary. Doing this means that we won't have traffic bunched up during the peak periods. The Bolivar interchange is bad enough as it is, and there isn't that much room to have a merger anyway.

  • @MrGeocidal
    @MrGeocidal 7 лет назад +2

    So if you're approaching from the North there's no way to turn right to get to Port Adelaide?

    • @joshuawilliams994
      @joshuawilliams994 6 лет назад +3

      There is. Coming off the bridge over the mangroves you merge off left away from the overpass and it merges with the Port Adelaide bound traffic.

      You would take the current turn off from the Max Fatchen Expressway onto Port Wakefield Road, then turn RIGHT at Waterloo Corner Road, go over the bridge over the Northern Connector, right onto Robinson Road (which is to be upgraded as part of the project), then left into St Kilda Road.

    Whoever pays for it, I don't care....everyone has the right to access it from somewhere. But I won't be happy till the Sturt Hwy is a dual carriage way to Renmark...it it starts just after the Gawler Belt area, and peters out just after the overhead bridge before you get to the next turn off to Nuriootpa. Welcome as that dual carriageway was up to Nuri, can't wait till it goes further. But when all these improvements to the roads are done, the only thing which will hamper it will be the arrogant drivers who do well below the speed limit in the outside lane, vehicle break downs, vehicle accidents (which a lot of those arrogant drivers cause), and of course necessary roadworks in the future. I can handle the odd accidents on the way, the breakdowns and the road works, but can't handle ignorant, arrogant drivers who do 10 and 20 kph below the speed limit on the outside lane, they think they are being safe, but all they do is aggravate the drivers who have every right to drive on those roads at the posted speed limits (and no more of course). The idea of those highways are to move traffic along quickly, not for sight seeing and Sunday driving in the middle of the week!! Can't wait for the North South corridor to be finished. Naysayers can in the most unpalatable of terms...piss off and quickly! I am glad the state Libs were not in at the time these improvements were suggested...the job would never get done.
    Labor is a bad enough government...but they have vision even if they do spend too much money on some projects.

  • @nathanielpillar8012

    I wouldn't consider the anzac highway underpass to be complete. It's a poorly planned, 4-lane bottleneck, with the rest of south road getting upgraded to 6 lanes. They should've had the foresight to make that underpass 6-lanes. It's not even very old.

    wont this just kill off all the salt pans? its a massive wall blocking the whole eastern side salt pans. wheres all that muck (salt) gonna go to? will that mean further destruction to our local beaches. are the salt pan there naturally or made made made however many years ago

    • @MrEshy
      @MrEshy 7 лет назад

      'The salt pans are man made are used to harvest salt for Coke. How will this be more destruction to local beaches?? The Salt Pans are to be sold of and will eventually used for housing as the company that has control of the salt pans is closing. The Salt pans just use a high tide flood they seal off the entrance and the water evaporates. repete the process 4-5 times you will have a thick layer of salt to collect. this can still be done with a road in the way using a tube that runs under the road with a valve to open n close for water flow. Hope this helps

      Not for Coke or Coles. The salt pans were owned and operated by Ridley to produce industrial salt. Their major customer was the Penrice Soda factory at Osborne, which ceased production a few years ago, so the salt pans were no longer needed and stopped production in 2014. Ridley sold the land to Adelaide Resource Recovery in 2016. www.adelaidenow.com.au/business/dry-creek-homes-plan-revival-under-new-ownership/news-story/8482f13ac168f5ef153718c58e4d01ae
