I've had my Z 9 for a bit over a year now and it's been the best camera I've ever owned and I've been using Nikon pro-grade cameras since the F2.

Watching now. Love the clip before the purchase. The look on your face driving to pick up the camera. those birds hehe. this video illustrates perfectly when showing your work, the Z9 is jack of all trades. One thing I dont like about the Z9 is that I dont own 2 Z9's hehe. its that good.
Two Z9s!!!. Yeah, sign me up. While I like the weight, there are times when I could use a smaller camera (maybe Z8 in the future 🙂.
Top notch video my man. The best high-level overview and review I have seen. I actually like the weight. When I am doing handheld motorsports and wildlife, I am steadier with it being heavier personally. Nikon does outstanding job with firmware updates and features compared to Sony. Sony makes a new camera to fix or add stuff and seem to HATE adding stuff in firmware. No camera will make you a better photographer, but it does make my job easier and more efficient. The pre-capture mode only works jpg 30 fps and up?
I can see how the weight can actually help. So much depends on ones use cases.
It's so funny I ordered mine about a month ago and I took it with me to Mexico and I felt the same way. Would I have buyers remorse because it's obviously a large investment after returning from Mexico looking at both my photographs and my video I have absolutely no regrets probably one of the best purchases I have ever made.

What memory card are you eyeing? FYI, I had issues with the sandisk CFexpress B keeping up with the Z9 (they were fine with Z6II).
As much as I love nikon optics way more than any other brands that sacrificed sharpness/speed over image pop, i seriously cant see the videos out of it. it feels from 10 years ago, there is just something weird about the highlight rolloff where you got a smooth transition and then suddenly it goes away. And I have a feeling its why all nikon videos can never be bright, like the middle grey is 1-2stop below the average video camera's middle grey.

I agree, my F mount lenses focus better on a Z9 as opposed to D4 or D800.
This was my experience. It’s due to cameras tech. Because the f-mount lenses work better on Z9, that alone is a reason to upgrade if possible.
is the Z8 aye tracking and auto focus in video and photography is the same as z9

I really want internal 10-bit 4:2:2 NOW and am struggling cuz I don’t wanna spend the money on the Z9 and feel that the Z8 or Z6iii would be better in my range, but we have no news about these cameras. Not sure what to do right now because I can’t wait toooooo much longer.
I hear you Michael. I’m 99% confident that whatever next version of Nikon camera we will see is going to have 10-bit 422. There is a reason why it’s taking f while but I have a sense that it is going to be a stellar camera. Not knowing your current set up, I assume you shoot Nikon, whatever system you would switch to, camera plus lenses will probably will be costly.
@@TouchLifeStudio yep. Nikon Z6ii with all the Holy Trinity S lenses for zooms and primes. I’ll be doing more work in areas with a lot of purple, blue, pink colors like concerts and sports shows and want those colors to look phenomenal.
Its very frustrating - all nikons rivals are shooting 10 bit in there mid range cameras. I need to buy camera equipment for my end of financial year (UK April 4) if Nikon dont drop the Z8/Z6 III by then Im going to be forced to buy from another manufacturer. At the moment that looks like Sony A7R5.
@@markshirley01 just also consider the expense $$$ for other Sony lenses if you don’t own any at the moment (or rent). Switching systems can be big money loss, unless you plan to use both interchangeably.

New sub👍still on dslr, but going to mirrorless soon. I have an elinchrone elb 400. How does these mirrorless , go together with these light, thinking about hi sync, portrait in sunshine ? Can you help before i go that road👍thanks
Thank you. The challenging part is to figure out what triggers to use with some existing flash units that people already own, such as elinchone, alien bees, etc. but once you have the right triggers, it works well. I’m planning on making a video on use of strobes and flashes with mirrorless for studio work. But once you go mirrorless you will not want to go back to dslrs.
@@TouchLifeStudio thanks , the triggers elinchrome SKY Port , Nikon support, should it not be going well with a Nikon mirror less , but there should not be a problem using it together like the Dslr, thanks , for your time, have been watching some of your other video’s 👍Nice work mate. The fact the Z9 cant backup video is a big problem for me, I hope they put this right.
Perhaps firmware update, but not a deal breaker for me.
@@TouchLifeStudio just seems a waste to have two slots and not be able to backup your video - how many people have probably decided Nikon isn't right for weddinga for instance.
Excellent, objective review. Glad there was no music! [1] Sad to say, but camera weight (or mass) adds stability, steadiness hence sharpness to the captures. [2] Pre capture (or Pro Capture) is available in RAW with the Olympus, albeit 4/3 format, so 1/2 the data to transfer and more than 1 second buffer. Great for sports with the M1X [3] Very much missing is the save settings to the body, not just to card #1. [4] Memory card door OK in studio with DRY hands, and at room temperatures. Solution? Add or raise by 1mm the slide button and add horizontal grooves so as to better grab the skin when trying to slide down! [5] Fix the 3D focus so it properly track. Too often gets distracted by white objects depending on light conditions or object crossing its path. Great on overcast days, awful in sunlight.. too small a space to discuss what I find are serious short comings in the field and in sports.
Thank you Chris for your objective feedback. Most (not all) pro sports photographers shoot jpgs, so there is no need for RAW pre-capture. Although, I can see how pre-capture RAW might be important to wild life professionals. I have to say, I like the way Z9 card door opens, it makes whether tight and it is important to me. 3D focus is not perfect, but it is nearly there and as Nikon continue to provide extra FW updates, I can see it improving even more. Again, thank you for your feedback, your view is well noted.
my sigma 35mm f 1.4 f-mount, doesnt work well on my z9, any experience with 3 party lences on z9?
I used Nikkor F-mount lenses and those work great. I also used Sigma 18-35 f1.8 on Z6II and that worked well. Yes, it is an APCS lens, but still for video it worked lovely.

@jepp53 do you have nikon's FtZ converter or a third party?
Is all firmware updated? I believe this guy has a video about updating the FtZ converter. Good luck!!!
@@uhoh7541 I have the latest nikon Ftz converter and all frimwaare is up to date. When I use it on d850 it iso 320 on z9 with same settings the iso 2000

Biggest piece of crap I have ever spent money on. Within 2 months at blades on the dust shield fell off. Most recently my EVF quit working. Amazing photos when it’s not being repaired though.

I hate my z9 all features are useless if you can't focus !.... So many times square of focus on the face or eye, but when reviewing, focus somewhere else ... Even on standing still people (* no matter which lens been shooting with wide 14-24 2.8, 50 1.2s , 100 2.8 70-200 2.8)
