I keep checking in from time to time. It still looks great, and it's a little frustrating that there isn't more communication around it, but they did recently make an engine shift which is a pretty big delay unfortunately.
A note regarding the game being programmed in C++ and modding: Lots of games, maybe even most, with built in mod support use a different language for mods and/or the actual content of the game. Core underlying systems would be developed in C++, providing flexibility/portability and performance, while content and mods would be scripted with a different language. It's pretty likely that they'd go for a solution of simple stuff like blocks and items just being JSON files, and more complex additions being scripted in a language like lua. (similar to how Starbound handles things.) Going from Java to lua would still be a bit of a jump for Minecraft mod devs, but by no means an insurmountable one. EDIT: It should also be noted that the scripting language used for mods only plays a small role in bringing people over from modding other games. If the base game is fun/interesting, and modding isn't too much of a hassle, there's likely gonna be a healthy modding community either way. I think this game would really benefit from a public beta test. It would make it a lot easier for the devs to see what people like and don't like. Even if they don't, I'm sure this game will turn out as a masterpiece.
I had heard they are planning to do a closed beta but I'd put a beta test at late 2023 at the very soonest, more likely 2024, that actual game itself probably won't release til 2025 or 2026 but I have plenty of things to do in the meantime while I wait lol
If they recently rebuilt the entire engine theres no real version of the game that *can be* playtested, really But yeah further down the line, beta tests would be great
The issue with hytale is that it needs to constantly be in development to make everything that it's doing possible. It has to run on such a unique engine and on top of that incorporate so many functions and inputs without failing, it also has to keep up with Minecraft's current content. It's very likely we won't be seeing hytale for maybe three more years.
Considering how hard it is for mojang to update minecraft these days, seeing a game like this which seems to have a way bigger scale is amazing. It's not surprising for them to take forever in actually making it but I do hope they still keep developing it and keep us posted.
Although many of the listed changes in development are with the goal of future-proofing the game, the decision to make all platforms run on the same version means that the game will be limited by the weakest platform in software, control and performance wise, which the original version was not preoccupied with, as such it's possible that the original design might differ too much to draw the same attention. People will find out that the trailers and short gameplay videos before 2022 show a completely different game than what the game will release as.
Still wanna play this, but I feel maybe they could release a small demo for feedback purposes, that is they can even do that. Dunno how much is coded. We have been waiting a long time, so let's hope the release is just as cool as the footage in this video.
Its frustrating that its being delayed for an untols amount of years, because it looks like it will be a super fun game. I'm grateful they're not delivering a half finished product though. I was dissapointed enough when No Man's Sky did that to us. I'm looking forward to an official release date, though, even if its early access!!
I'm semi excited for hytale as well. Just seeing how many different sorts of creatures there are in it, and hoping it makes a good impact when it hits Beta!
Hollow Knight took 3 years being developed. Omori was being developed for 6 and a half years. Hytale was announced in 2018 and started being developed at 2015 which is basically 8 years now. Still Duke Nukem Forever stood at the top for being the longest game being develop for 14 years. Maybe Hytale is planning to beat that record lol.
The amount of debris on the ground in the railer footage is stressful, cause in this sort of game, whether or not that debris has collision is rarely communicated well, and is often inconsistent. (there are some games, that communicates it very well, but too many don't.)
Last week I was in a sophmore class for highschool and saw a friend I haven't talked to in years He was talking about Minecraft and other games and I remembered Hypixel and Hytale I told him about it and he literally had no idea what that was Funnily enough I showed him the video and he was hyped about it a long time ago
Riot likes their dramatic flare. The last thing that had "a potential release date" that was pushed later but turned into a award winning masterpiece was arcane. I'm sure hytale will not disappoint when it does release.
I think Valorant was kind of a wake up call that trying to force something just breeds a lot of animosity that you could have fairly easily been avoided. They just need to trust their own reputation at this point. Cause after that big Valorant push they essentially did a full stop and just trusted that the Riot name was enough to sustain the game which it was
People keep forgetting that riot also acquired Radiant Entertainment, but rather than giving them "more money to play with" they canned development of a game with unfulfilled kickstarter promises, so let's stop up-selling this like it can only be a good thing. I'm also concerned with the question of what evolution is taking place? While beta access for players or early access would help with the hype problem, I've seen a lot of early access games evolve to a point where it's unrecognizable, and not in the good way, only to cite early access disclaimer. I've been burned too many times to trust acquired companies and assume that they care what fans want.
Idm them taking their time to release, I'll wait however long it takes to release in a great state! Though I would really like more snippets and blogposts in the meantime. Even if they're about little unimportant things.
Because Hytale takes so much longer then expected, i do really hope the physics and overall engine will be a substatial upgrade over Minecraft. Maybe something like waving water, so ships can sail the seas, or enemy ragdoll physics, and if that is not the case with the main game, i hope modding allows us to do such things. But because it is also coming to platforms like mobile now, i'm not so sure that will be so likely anymore.
I recently discovered this little gem and I got instantly hooked. Also James, will we see some couch gang content anytime soon? Otherwise have a great day !
The one nice thing about Hytale is that if/when it release it's pretty much guaranteed to be an instant success. So long as they ensure to have a decent game at launch, something a lot of triple a games these days seem to not care about, all the attention from all the youtubers I know will cover it will definitely make the game popular. This is especially so if they aim the release of the game in-between Minecraft updates, at that spot where a lot of youtubers are looking for next content or series to help fill the gap and before they announce details about the next update.
2 seconds ago. . .Interesting. I forgot Hytale even existed. I remember being so incredibly excited for it when I saw the trailer but I haven’t thought about it in at least a year. I’m still hyped for it but not as hyped as I used to be.
Hytale is too large of a project to complete in one go, they need to release soon and learn how to iterate in order to complete their goals. You can't just go into a closet for a decade and emerge with a game with the scope of something like Minecraft. The early access model is almost a requirement for this type of game.
Yeah, as much as I want this game to be great I see nothing but a flop if they don't do early access testing. This style of sandbox survival game is something that has to be fine tuned with thousands of play testers ti find bugs that dev testers might never dream of. Being able to field opinions on the game as its made is just too important for games where you have such high creative freedom
in all honesty, the longer it takes the more excited i get. i understand people wanting it now, game looks hella cool. but with how much they have promised and shown, they are actually taking the time to fulfill those promises take notes bethesda
@@alexsiemers7898 it CAN lead to quality if the scope of the project doesnt also increase at the same rate. most times they just keep adding more till there is too much to get done on time leading to a bunch of half finished things
mad respect for the hytale team you don't see that much passion from other games and developers in our current gaming era it's mostly just rushed or lacking some things but the addition of hytale would change the gaming industry and i hope it gives inspiration to more aspiring developers to put more effort and passion into their games also game devs need to be treated right and recognized by companies all that skill wasted because of low payment for their work
I honestly don't mind. I really hope they take a long time to release the game because so many games that come out these days are a broken, disappointing mess. It may be upsetting to wait but it's for the best because a first impression makes or breaks a game and I hope they leave a first impression worth the wait that's almost bug free.
You caught me by suprise when you made a video about this game. Then again it does look like lowkey 3D terraria, sorry for the pre-mature comparison btw
Ok, this maybe one of those things where, if they have a stable game with a lot of content and very few bugs, and what they want as part of it, is mostly content being added too it, they may want to actually release the game and keep adding the features they planned for after the fact.
OMG I already forget about this game, but then i saw ur vid on my youtube home screen and the memory ofthis game just came back. But the game is still promising and I think the team do the best things for long term.
They want it to be a legitimate competitor instead of a niche game. Which I say more power to them. Before the extra funding, I think it was leaning more into the niche realm that would have initial popularity
Meanwhile I've been enjoying vintage story. Uses the same engine that hytale originally announced to be using! And it's really good!!! I really hope you check it out! I feel like you'd enjoy it!
@@midorifox couldnt agree more! scummy business practices are so annoying to say the least... with vintage story i kinda just stumbled upon a youtube home page suggestion vid lol! its such an interesting concept and i found myself playing it no differently than say a massive minecraft modpack (all be it with better performance and visuals lmao)
I dont care when this game releases, but when it does, I will be there. It doesn't matter to me if it takes two years or five, a polished game is what I wish for, not a thrown out the door husk of a game *cough cough Sonic forces*. I wish the Hytale Team and you guys a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!
Super glad that riot isn't giving them a deadline, the scope of this game, especially the frameworks for the community might make this the longest running game ever.
Chippy, I think what you're missing is, Hytale is not trying to replace minecraft. they are their own thing. Hytale's purpose is not to kill minecraft. otherwise this was a nice video! ^^
I really want to be able to play Hytale as a custom fox. One of the best things about Minecraft is that you can make your own skin, you can literally be anything you can imagine! So far Hytale only seems to have generic human and fantasy type customisation but if I could be a blue fox boy I would be so so dang happy.
this is one of those games you wait for and at the same time just can't wait tell it's released . if you haven't been following this and you play Minecraft you must have been lost or under a rock for the last 4 years it's going to be so damn good when it finally does gets released .
I think this game has a high chance to succeed (eventually) when compared to other games that wanted to be very similar to it for one main reason, funding. The issue is that with many "multiplayer-centered huge open world exploration" games is that they need to release so that the developer(s) can continue to work on it with the money the game generates, but the hypixel team already has built a consistent source of revenue both from the very popular hypixel server and of course riot games. This ensures that hypixel can continue to spend as much time as they need to finish the game without worrying about a release date because, ultimately, this is a true passion project that does not need to start generating money as soon as possible
I think that hytale looks absolutely beautiful, and I would buy a hytale beta as soon as I could if they released it, I don't care how unfinished it is as long as I can have a lot of play time, it looks perfect for me.
i've been with the game since the beginning and watching almost all videos about it that come out, im very excited for the game, and i think i can hold out for much more time, but if the game doesnt come out within idk, 6 more years i may lose hope.
I’m starting to get Minecraft Dungeons and more classic RPG vibes from Hytale. That mixed with a later release date may invite a slightly older player base than what Minecraft currently has, and I’m here for it.
It takes a ton of effort to make a game that is this hyped live up to it. Im hopeful, but obviously apprehensive. Especially since mojang has been on the ball as of late.

I had heard they are planning to do a closed beta but I'd put a beta test at late 2023 at the very soonest, more likely 2024, that actual game itself probably won't release til 2025 or 2026 but I have plenty of things to do in the meantime while I wait lol
If they recently rebuilt the entire engine theres no real version of the game that *can be* playtested, really
But yeah further down the line, beta tests would be great
Hytale just got forgotten, the game is probably not going to reach its full potential. But still have hope that it’s good.
With the sheer amount of potential Hytale has shown, I would gladly wait for even so long as a decade if it'd mean it would release in its best state
The issue with hytale is that it needs to constantly be in development to make everything that it's doing possible. It has to run on such a unique engine and on top of that incorporate so many functions and inputs without failing, it also has to keep up with Minecraft's current content. It's very likely we won't be seeing hytale for maybe three more years.
A game dev that actually cares about there game and fans
Impossible
Hypixel is impossible to achieve
You must have not heard of Deep Rock Galactic
Klei Entertainment
@@jiffy6969 did you just bring back all my memories with two words?
Considering how hard it is for mojang to update minecraft these days, seeing a game like this which seems to have a way bigger scale is amazing.
It's not surprising for them to take forever in actually making it but I do hope they still keep developing it and keep us posted.
I would rather a finished game at launch than the current trend of releasing half done games just to get it out.
I honestly forgot about this game
Bro, it:s been years and I'm still waiting for this to release
It's almost like these things take time to develop. 🤯
The amount of debris on the ground in the railer footage is stressful, cause in this sort of game, whether or not that debris has collision is rarely communicated well, and is often inconsistent. (there are some games, that communicates it very well, but too many don't.)
I'm suprised you're the one making a video about this.
it’s already been 4 years since the original trailer?!?It feels like it has only been one year
Cant wait for the chippy and necrit collab reviewing hytale
That would be a wild collab
i hope this is like hallow knight where a small team takes many years and effort and when it launches, it is insanely popular and polished
The team is already consists of 100+ devs, small is not the word I'd use tbh.
Oh god, I just realized hytale is another silksong. Great vid btw
Last week I was in a sophmore class for highschool and saw a friend I haven't talked to in years
He was talking about Minecraft and other games and I remembered Hypixel and Hytale I told him about it and he literally had no idea what that was
Funnily enough I showed him the video and he was hyped about it a long time ago
I love hytale I’m so glad you’re bringing light to it again it’s been forgotten for so long and I’m so happy that you’re making another video on it
Riot likes their dramatic flare.
Thank you Chippy. I am truly thankful for this video.
Never losing hype for this, its like Terraria and Minecraft put together!
I keep forgetting that Rito bought Hypixal
Because Hytale takes so much longer then expected, i do really hope the physics and overall engine will be a substatial upgrade over Minecraft. Maybe something like waving water, so ships can sail the seas, or enemy ragdoll physics, and if that is not the case with the main game, i hope modding allows us to do such things. But because it is also coming to platforms like mobile now, i'm not so sure that will be so likely anymore.
I recently discovered this little gem and I got instantly hooked.
Also James, will we see some couch gang content anytime soon?
Otherwise have a great day !
I forgot about this game because I haven't heard anything in years, but the WIP footage looks really good.
Hytale
Now that's a name I haven't heard in a long, long time...
Being able to field opinions on the game as its made is just too important for games where you have such high creative freedom
in all honesty, the longer it takes the more excited i get.
i understand people wanting it now, game looks hella cool. but with how much they have promised and shown, they are actually taking the time to fulfill those promises
take notes bethesda
Hahaha "Take notes Bethesda" I love that.
After Cyberpunk I thought people ditched the “time _will_ lead to quality” mindset
@@alexsiemers7898 it CAN lead to quality if the scope of the project doesnt also increase at the same rate. most times they just keep adding more till there is too much to get done on time leading to a bunch of half finished things
@@alexsiemers7898 Cyberpunk was rushed near the end, so if anything it at least proved that less time means less quality
I’ll wait for however long I just pray they don’t pull a cubeworld
mad respect for the hytale team you don't see that much passion from other games and developers in our current gaming era it's mostly just rushed or lacking some things but the addition of hytale would change the gaming industry and i hope it gives inspiration to more aspiring developers to put more effort and passion into their games also game devs need to be treated right and recognized by companies all that skill wasted because of low payment for their work
I honestly don't mind. I really hope they take a long time to release the game because so many games that come out these days are a broken, disappointing mess. It may be upsetting to wait but it's for the best because a first impression makes or breaks a game and I hope they leave a first impression worth the wait that's almost bug free.
I havent been paying attention to anything hytale related, but the biggest thing for me getting into it is some sort of power system like redstone.
Thanks for reminding me. Can’t wait to play it in 2 years
You caught me by suprise when you made a video about this game. Then again it does look like lowkey 3D terraria, sorry for the pre-mature comparison btw
thanks for posting this i was wondering about where they're at :)
The Silksong of voxel games
Ok, this maybe one of those things where, if they have a stable game with a lot of content and very few bugs, and what they want as part of it, is mostly content being added too it, they may want to actually release the game and keep adding the features they planned for after the fact.
OMG I already forget about this game, but then i saw ur vid on my youtube home screen and the memory ofthis game just came back. But the game is still promising and I think the team do the best things for long term.
They want it to be a legitimate competitor instead of a niche game. Which I say more power to them. Before the extra funding, I think it was leaning more into the niche realm that would have initial popularity
my hype for this game is reignited just as much as it was in 2018 every time I hear an update
Just hoping it doesn't turn into cubeworld 2.0
Meanwhile I've been enjoying vintage story. Uses the same engine that hytale originally announced to be using! And it's really good!!! I really hope you check it out! I feel like you'd enjoy it!
oh, I heard of it but then forgot about it, lol.
Although it does looks nice. (and it's not leeching off Minecraft's fame to generate hype)
Vintage Story is good and playable unlike Hytale
@@majamystic256 exactly! thank you!
I'm still hyped for it, but i'm also a believer in taking the time to polish and refine a game before releasing it.
It's amazing that they're taking their time on this project instead of releasing half a game like *some* *other* *companies* ...
Wow I forgot about Hytale. When I heard about it in 2018 I was really excited. Im excited for the future of Hytale.
Vintage Story would be worth checking out!
i really like vintage story but the learning curve is quite steep, especially when wild animals like wolves can kill you in less than 3 hits
Vintage Story is amazing
I thought I could play this before I finish school, wtf Hytale...
Same. I thought it might come out in the summer of 2021 or the fall, but I'm still waiting.
Good information, all things make sence. Hope they have like a alpha or bete next year this would be amazing
Every year on January 1st, I tell myself "This is the year that Hytale finally releases" yet I get less and less enthusiastic as each year flies by...
I've been waiting for hytale since 2016 when Simon (ign Hypixel) announced they were working on a stand alone game from Minecraft on a livestream
But also their track record against cheaters on the Minecraft server isn't the best
I'm just glad they're not shutting down the project. Last time I took a look at it, it seemed like a real possibility.
Personally I don't know what it's like to be a wallet. But I'm glad that ridge will redefine it for me
honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Hytale becomes a "cube world"
Honestly if they did like an early access release they could probably get some hype going again
I’m starting to get Minecraft Dungeons and more classic RPG vibes from Hytale. That mixed with a later release date may invite a slightly older player base than what Minecraft currently has, and I’m here for it.
welp maybe i'll be able to play this when i'm in the half n-ties.
i'll be waiting…
Noooooo I forgot that this beauty was a thing
It takes a ton of effort to make a game that is this hyped live up to it. Im hopeful, but obviously apprehensive. Especially since mojang has been on the ball as of late.
This is the very first hytale news this december
