This unit came with our house when we bought it, the manual was not intuitive in the least, this video however helped clarify. I kept getting confused between the numbers linked to Program Start Time thinking they were station numbers, but as this video points out, they are NOT station numbers but start time numbers; you only get 4 start times per Program and only 3 Programs (A/B/C). The system will sequentially run each station/valve assigned to each Program (A/B/C) so you don't have to worry about programming a start time for each valve (just a run time), if you have 3 valves/stations assigned to program A, and you have 3 start times for Program A - 1 = 3am, 2 = 9am and 3 = 6pm then that means that at 3am your first valve will start, when it is finished with its run time, the next valve will start automatically for its run time and so forth, this will all start over again at the next start time which in this example would be 9am and run through all valves/stations.

Especially the part where you make it clear that in programs A, B and C the Numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 are not the zones but the possible cycles. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I bought 2 houses with this controller, each with 4 irrigation zones. It wasn't until this video that I learned that the 1,2,3,4 on the display for Start Times dial setting are for when the irrigation zones ALL get cycled through. However, for the Run TImes dial setting, the 1,2,3,4 are for the actual irrigation zones. I've been doing this wrong for over 10 years!

Good job explaining. Professionals installed the hunter x-core & irrigation system. Two years ago it worked with 5 zones. Last year it stopped working one zone at a time. I reprogrammed as explained again this year. When the water source is turned on, all the zones come on at once. I have turned my programming system to off & the water to all the zones still run & all at one time. I have to use my water source to turn the irrigation system on & off. As far as I know we have a secure power source.

After 4 years of trying to figure out how this device does its thing, you explained it so simply. I was trying to figure out how to distinguish between the start time and run time for the stations. I have 6 stations but the "start time" only showed 4. I did not realize that the numbers 1-4 were not the stations. Well, duh to me! The searches I did, even with the manual, there were no simple explanations to distinguish the start and run time selections. Thanks again.

Totally agree. When you flip the key on the panel, the numbers are in the same location on the screen. With no name under the number there’s no way to know that you’re now looking at stations instead of number of start times. Just label the screen better. But the video was an easy watch. So that’s nice. My neighbor’s must think I’m very blond because I kept telling them I had fixed the start/run times. But it kept running three times. Lol. Guess I should have looked it up sooner. Could have saved myself some embarrassment. :)

unfortunately "A" often means automatic - which I'm sure throws people off, if they haven't watched this video - because I surely didn't get that from the 8 page booklet the contractor left me :) Great job explaining the complexity of multiplexed buttons and the different meanings..This video is helping me quite a bit.. I would say most of the other controllers I've had in my life - had an "enter" button - instead of using the rotary switch to exit the programming for that switch position - ..another confusion point for me..so, walking up to this controller - it would be natural to assume the PRG-"program" button is used as an "ENTER" button - but as you explain - it isn't..Glad you made this video..

How do you identify the station/valve for each program. All the programming steps address start time, how many start times, which program (A/B/C) and days to water. How do you have control of each valve? I have a valve for back flushing a filter and one for trees only once a week. Grass and bushes 3 times a week.

I just moved to greenville sc, and am wondering how to winterize or simply shut down my Hunter x core underground lawn sprinkler . I have a BIB valve in the garage and also a water controller at the edge of the yard. I was thinking that all I need to do is cut of the BIB valve in the garage. OR do I need to also cut off the water supply at the yard? Also is there a need to run any of the zones in the yard ( I have 6 zones on .30 acre) Thank you for any details.

    • @Hunter_Landscape_Irrigation
      @Hunter_Landscape_Irrigation  3 года назад

Thank you for contacting Hunter Technical Support.
Water left in the pipes of your irrigation system can freeze over winter, causing extensive costly damage to your property or the irrigation system. If you live in a region where frost penetrates the ground deep enough to reach the pipes, you should make an annual habit to winterize your irrigation system when you're done watering for the year.
Due to the potential dangers involved with winterization if you are unsure how to properly winterize your system, it is best to call a professional. Please contact an irrigation contractor in your area.

    • @Hunter_Landscape_Irrigation

A cycle is the when a program sequence starts. You might program the controller to start a cycle at 10pm on Tuesday. When that time and date come up, the controller will start a cycle and operate all the station or zones in sequence that at in a particular program.

Hunter should, IMHO, hire a company that can make a completely new User Manual...and, perhaps even re-do the programmer's setup itself. I think the whole business: the display, the steps of programming, and the instruction manual are needlessly difficult to understand. But/and, Hunter----thanks for this video; I am going to go out now and try it again with the new controller, and I feel that I'm now better equipped to tackle this confusing matter.

@hunter_industries one thing I don’t understand is why there is a total run time greater than what you set the stations to run for. For example, if I set program A station 1 to run for 10 minutes and I set program A station 2 to run for 10 mins, why would the total run time not be 10 minutes instead of 20 minutes like was stated in the video? Can different stations not run at the same time (water pressure issues)? I would assume that if I set all my stations in my yard to turn on at 6am for one cycle only and they are all set to run for 10 minutes only then the entire system would turn on and water for only 10 minutes and then shut down. Not for 40 minutes (I have four stations per program). Thanks in advance!

    • @Hunter_Landscape_Irrigation
      @Hunter_Landscape_Irrigation  6 месяцев назад +1

Once a program starts, each valve or zone will operate in sequence. Five zones that each need 10 minutes, the program runs for 50 minutes. Some of our commercial controllers can operate more that one zone at a time and reduce the overall watering time.

    This doesn't cover my issue.
My controller was set to run stations 1 and 2 once at 7:15am on Tuesday Thursday and Sunday using program A.
I now want to run stations 1 and 2 once on Thursday and Sunday at 7:15 am. I also want to run the same two once on Tuesday at 3:15am.
All I want to do is move the Tuesday watering to 3:15am whilst keeping the Thursday and Sunday settings at 7:15am.
I set program A to run Thursday and Sunday at 7:15 am with Tuesday turned off. I set program B to run Tuesday at 3:15am with Thursday and Sunday off.
My system ran at 3:15amTuesday morning but then ran again at the former setting of Tuesday 7:15 am.

The front screen is completely blank. Do you know what the problem could be? I have used the reset button and no results.

Thank you Mike for the training video. You took something complex and explained it well. However I think Hunter should invest some money in a touchscreen system. If not maybe create a Wi-Fi connection and release an app to control this similar to what nest thermostats do. I think this would set you ahead of the competition. I would pay the extra money for what it cost to company to invest in such a thing.

Hunter should really hunt down some cheapo cell phone programmers or steal the code from your basic android 2.1 'alarm clock' feature where you can set a time, 'repeat' and add a 'Zone/Station' variable in order to make it 10 times easier to program. The current way is error prone and displays are cheap enough to make the fonts a bit bigger man.

    Thanks!

Interval watering will water every 3 days no matter the day of the week. Please follow these steps: www.hunterindustries.com/support/xcore-setting-interval-watering

I've set station 1, station 2, and station 3 for start times @9:15 pm. Once station 3 finishes irrigating, system station 1 starts over again, so I have to shut off manually. How can I program so that station 1 won't start again?

    • @Hunter_Landscape_Irrigation

Thank you for contacting Hunter Technical Support.
Hunter controllers have the ability to program multiple start times for each program. Each program requires only one start time to initiate a watering sequence of the stations assigned to that program. This allows the user to have the controller start multiple times per water day.
In the START TIMES dial position, the numbers you see do not represent your stations. They are the number of times Program A, B, C, or D (if you have a D program) will cycle in a single water day.
One start time will sequentially run all stations in a program that has been programmed in the RUN TIMES dial position. A second start time will cycle the program later or early that same day. For example, you should have a start time in A1 only. A2, A3 …. A8 should all say OFF. The OFF will appear between 11:45 pm and 12:00 am.
The only dial position that allows you to program your stations, is in the RUN TIMES dial position.
For video instructions on programming your controller, click on the link below:

Ok I will try that (Set A-1 for 6 AM, and leave A2-4 OFF)...I was setting start times for all stations previously. I appreciate your video and help. The user's manual doesn't state anything about A2-4, just A1.
      Now I know, thanks again.

I need help. My unit is setup properly. The water valves for the system are on and the system says it is running. It is even counting down but there is no water coming out of my drip system from any zone. Don’t know what to do. HELP please!

Thank you for contacting Hunter Technical Support.
If your X-Core controller shows irrigation running (Flashing Sprinkler Icon), and your sprinklers are not working, you may have a wiring problem at the valves or the irrigation water supply has been shut down.
If you have a master valve on your system (check for wire on the P/MV terminal), then your master valve may not be opening up. Check the wiring connections at the master valves for loose or corroded connections, or a bad solenoid.
If you do not have a master valve, verify that your valves have a water supply, you will need to locate your irrigation valves and turn the solenoids on the valves 1/2 turn counterclockwise to manually activate the valves. If the sprinklers do not turn on you may have a valve shut down that supplies the irrigation system. If the sprinklers come on, you may have a wiring problem at the valves. Check the wiring connections at the valves for loose or corroded connections.

For some reason my system won't change over to the next cycle ie from 1 to 2 or three in the system. Even the master manual will only run the first sprinkler not allowing to change over to the next step

I checked the run times, I have all on A at different times ranging from 5 to 15 minutes each. Nothing on B or C, I have 6 different stations, but only trying to run off A.
I also have the start times set to start at 6am and 8pm yet when I have the system set at run and press the button with the hand ✋ icon for a manual run of the system it stops after the first station runs, when it should run all, this happens on the regular run as well,. What do I do next?
