After debating on the Ally X, I opted to buy my first Rog Ally (Z1E) with 2TB for $480...the same week the Ally X dropped. The Z1E works very well and suits my needs. I think I'd have had some buyers remorse dropping $800 on the X. Unrelated, but I'll never forget you helping me get both a series X and PS5 during COVID. What a wild time that was....
that’s actually a good deal! And I hear you regretting if you ever did get an X. Got my first PC handheld experience on the OG deck, was not worried one bit when Ally first dropped to the masses. not until I saw reviews on the X. I wanted to game on Destiny 2 and others so bad but did not want to dual boot the Deck. that’s when I saw how well bazzite runs on the X and man I went crazy! Ally X/4tb was friggin expensive but is well worth it. I’ll be taking it easy after this purchase 😅
@@rocknflip66 100% understandable! I initially wanted a deck as my first handheld but I'm a gamepass user and I also didn't want to tinker with it after the fact. As long as you are happy with your purchase, rock on!
Nice comparison! Thanks for sharing the speaker issue. I went to my local store and can confirm that the speakers are worse on the Ally X. The difference is huge
Just get the Z1 extreme and get a 65w powerbank and save a ton of money...because both handhelds have about same performance..they just increased the terrible battery and fixed the SD card frying thingy. That's it.
The Ally X seems sweet and i am aware of the better battery and more ram,but i went with the Z1 Extreme ROG Ally because i found it on sale for 370$ brand new. Really excited to try it out when it arrives
Where I live the SD OLED 51GB costs the same as ROG Ally X. In dollar value they are $1000+. So the choice was SD OLED 512Gb or the X and I got the X. Windows REALLY SUCKS in a handheld, but with SteamOS coming it will be ok.
Really depends on what you value the most. Do you want more power, freedom with a 1080p lcd display or a convenient, streamlined, but weaker gaming experience on a brighter 800p OLED display?
Absolutely it is if you want the best of the best get the X. But the ally doesn't fall THAT much short imo to justify the significant price difference if found on sale which it was just $500 brand new. Especially if the plan is to get the Ally successor in a year.
I say it would be a waste of money upgrading from the Ally to the LAX I mean just for a little bit of RAM and a little bit of battery same screen same processor nothing else changed That's why I'm waiting for like something upgraded from it like a bigger screen and stuff and I'm waiting for Lenovo to drop something new hopefully these guys drop something new cuz I don't like buying no onexplayer zotac zone Ayaneo or whatever from Asia because those devices are wayyy too expensive for a handheld PC it's ridiculous The highest I want to go will be like $900 that's or $800 other than that I'm good for that I'll get it build my own PC type of situation going for anything higher than those prices
There more new protable pc it to much but it was the rog ally it looking nice I no sure gonna buy or no I wanted to waiting to Xpg nia, zotac, legion go or rog ally 2 maybe coming soon in next year
I don’t think anyone like windows it’s a monopoly and we don’t have any other options that are worth using without us being limited to the games we play.
@@paulwilliams2024 Sure not been my experience and I have first hand experience I have an Ally X and my Daughter has a Steam deck . Do you have first hand experience with both ?
Ally X is still a pc and behaves like a pc when you connect it to a monitor or tv. A mouse and keyboard is just required. Imma return mine. I tried it but it’s not for me. Rather wait for a Xbox portable system or Nintendo Switch 2.
Kinda what I'm looking for. A mini pc. I don't know, though, even though if I did, I'd probably get a Legion Go. It would be an interesting upgrade from my Surface Pro.
Complaining about the price is so cringe it literally can play any game . Can play any any game you could on Xbox and PlayStation for the same price of a ps 5 pro .
Not really when you do it as a comparison with the original... Rog Ally is good... but is the X worth upgrading from the original ally hence the price comparison as well...
Bro you drink the paint strait or let it dry and eat the chips? He's comparing it to the original Ally Z1 Extreme and in that front the price is very important when you're getting more battery and slightly more frames. Is that worth double the cost?
Awesome video Cam. Ally X $800 vs Ally at MSRP $700 is worth the extra $100 but like you print in the comments Ally is on sale x $500 with a free case. So at $300 difference you should buy the Ally over the Ally X unless you have a lot of money to burn for a 5 to 10% improvement in FPS. @AlexGamingDeals.

Isn't getting a 2 TB SSD and the original Ally leagues more expensive than the Ally X?
@@CJTheTokay My Ally was pre-owned, 2TB SSD already installed.
Haha it was crazy man. Idk if I’d do it again if I could do it all over if I knew how crazy it would be. I appreciate you checking out my content tho!

It’s actually so weird they’d downgrade them
It’s worth every penny if you have the money.
Yep
Managed to get the original ROG ally on sale for 379. I'm on a budget. So this works for me. Not a hardcore gamer either.
The OG is actually really solid for the price!
I'm dying to get one of these portable PCs, and these both look cool despite their issues. Great review!
Appreciate you Joey!

It's sooo nice. Still debating 😅. Nice breakdown. This is helpful for when I do decide to make moves toward one.
you're definitely right-on with the audio being better on z1extreme. I thought it was just my imagination.
Another great video for people who have no idea what's what

Really is a blessing that steam OS will be an option for everyone soon
Interesting review but still I refuse to ever consider getting a windows handheld until they optimize it and stop installing spyware.
Love my Ally!!
It’s a great little device!
U can literally buy a used one at Best Buy right now for 681
Both seem pretty cool :0
Both are good depends on what you want/need!

i love mine and with onexgpu i replaced my 2070 laptop and plays anything 1440p ultra/high
a sticking with rog ally 1 i got dec 2023 and keep at list to 4 to 5 year mark
I have gone through 5 rog ally x
Each one had issues with L2 or R2
It's def worth the money, just wait till blk friday for a better deal.
