I like to smear a liberal-ish amount of petroleum jelly on the groves on the JB Weld tubes. CA glue too. Seals the tube and makes ‘em a hell of a lot easier to open. Probably old news but it works.
Dave, I have watched many of your videos, and those of Twoofrd, and Rosa String Works, and this is the first time I saw any of you use a tap & die set. Thanks for sharing.
Sorry about your back pain there Dave 😢…just know how many here love ya and wish we could help in some way…have another cold one (or two)…cheers buddy!
I worked on a couple TV shows in Portland as an extra and always chatted with the grips when I could. They use TONS of tape! For a producer to ask you that question shows that they're completely clueless.
In reality, I would be able to do this easily, as I'm a guitar builder (Turbocaster Electric Guitars), but I watched it anyway because you are entertaining!!! Keep up the fun videos!! Thanks!
6- 32 is for electrical outlets. I didn't know it was also guitar pick up related. Very Cool. I had to hunt those suckers down for an extension plate. Cool, Lipstick under covers. James Bond 007. I used a chainsaw all day. Finally got it running awesome again. Cheers Dave. Awesome project.
Glad you got your back straightened out. I know your pain. I have a "Pain Simulator" implanted in my back. Helps some but there are days especially when it's raining my lower back is completely wacked. I need to start drinking again (quit 10 years ago????). My wife would kill me.
I've been there, Dave, with my cigar box guitars. Talk about crappy arts, I think you would enjoy making one, or two. There may be little or no money in it, but it's highly satisfying.
Cool this came up. Used to be super sketched about modifying pickguards. I just made 2 custom tele pickguards, an explorer style custom pickguard, and a control panel/pickguard for a home build flying v type guitar today. This is a good hack to bypass a lot of work and mess if that's what you are going for. Although the gaps in the ends around the pickup would make my ocd go haywire. I'd rather just cut a blank now
@@jimm8594 absolutely! Youd probably have to fill in the bridge cavity first and reroute it for the tele pu. I would definitely use a blank pickguard as it looks like the volume pot would have to be moved over a bit but its definitely doable.
From Leo: That is a method I have never tried. I usually get a mounting trim ring for a Telecaster pickup and screw it to the top of the Strat pickguard. The problem with my method is sometimes the chrome ring looks out of place. Good Job Dave!
I also wake up and try not to hate myself, and it's definitely a challenge some days. Glad you seem to be able to be managing it! You can do it, David. Since this seems to be part two in the series, thanks for doing the arts & crafts on my Rickenbacker. This thing is in full fighting shape now; feels absolutely great.
From Leo: I modded one like that, it has a great sound. I used old Danelectro pickups, but now there are companies making lipstick tubes that are short enough to fit right in the Strat pickup holes without filing them bigger.
A similar idea is the Lollar ROYAL T NECK pickup. It's a Tele neck pickup that emulates the Stratocaster neck tone. I own one and it sounds great. These are great things to try. Nice vid Dave.
I was wondering why not mustang pickup covers since no pole pieces are coming through. It would be solid black and cover up the whole tele neck pickup without empty holes without poles going through them. I don't know 100% for certain if mustang pickup covers fit through the same sized hole on a strat pickguard. Edit: i didn't watch what you were going for till the end. I guess that pickguard you have fits a tele pickup fine and the strat cover was only for reference. Well, if my previous idea ever helps, use it.
@@DavesWorldofFunStuff that makes sense, because neither do I I guess all of us have a million strat pickup covers though. They just accumulate by the dozens over the years and we never find enough was to use them fast enough while piling up. Lol As for the mustang cover, I think now that i can't name any sites that would offer them off hand. MAYBE stewmac or warmoth or even WD but they probably would charge a lot and whatnot. It's not every day a mustang comes onto the workbench and leaves you with pickup covers. Matter of fact, i believe after all these years, i never even worked on an actual mustang. Lol
Just spitballing here, but did you consider cutting the top and sides of a Strat pup cover and then gluing the remaining “plate” onto the top,of the Tele plastic base. Not sure if that makes sense, but it seems like it would simplify things.
An expression for 'it's nearly right" concerning all Heath Robinson modifications to guitars (including playing them) is "a man on a galloping horse wouldn't notice"
Dave ! I'm feeling kind of jilted , here ... I thought you were gonna put it all back together on a Strat body and play it . I was genuinely curious how it would sound .
like comment and subscribe... become a Patreon, Like Me :) Years of entertainment+ not having to pay someone else to F with my guitars..best money I may have ever spent!
The reason it is called “Gaffer tape” is because, in British film studios, like Pinewood, in the 1950’s, wide cloth sticky tape was so expensive that only the chief electrician had some, and his slang name was “the gaffer”
Some people are just dumbarses, Dave, no common sense, and do not read instructions. 06:45 I learnt how to use 2-part expoxy when I was around 7 years old, FFS.
Epoxy and styrene plastic as you know are tone killers on telecaster pickups. "DISCLAIMER" THIS IS WRITTEN IN JEST, A gentle joke because I have followed DWOFS for years. Cheers and be good to each other!🍻✌
I read a lot and have read "tone" gibberish for years. There's something in the the mix that results in Tone for sure. There's also a bunch of bull that fuels "tone" gibberish

Quite fun learning such new things in the FX arsenal, like leather scraps & tape! You're really opening up squib wonderland!
Dave, I have watched many of your videos, and those of Twoofrd, and Rosa String Works, and this is the first time I saw any of you use a tap & die set. Thanks for sharing.
Cool idea. I'd like to see you play through on that. It looks awesome, and I bet it sounds cool. Thanks from the swampland of Louisiana!
Sorry about your back pain there Dave 😢…just know how many here love ya and wish we could help in some way…have another cold one (or two)…cheers buddy!
FUN TIMES ! More "just screwin' around" / experimenting or "let's just see what happens if we . . ." videos please.

Informative, and entertaining. Dave, pushing the envelope as always.
Thanks again!
I just replied and got
Finished

Dave I'm just finishing my Telecaster upgrade love a nice tele.
That'll be an interesting set-up when it's done. Can't wait to hear it. Cheers!
You and me both!
Life is good.....another vid from Dave. Be well !

Some folk put a dab of contact cement, however Mr. Funtstuff uses epoxy and drinks while he works. Nice job!

Do you think it would be possible to do a Nashville Tele pu’s with telecaster bridge on a hardtail Strat body?

"The Nibbler"......favorite Super Hero.
I was in a band called "The Nibblers" a long time ago 😀
I had a band called THE BUTCHERS..we could butcher any song you like :)
Dave milling about in his natural habitat. Groovy. ✌️🎸✌️
The T bar you were looking for, it's on the right die holder handle!
thanks !!!
SRV's "Charlie" guitar has 3 Lipstick pickups in it.
From Leo: I modded one like that, it has a great sound. I used old Danelectro pickups, but now there are companies making lipstick tubes that are short enough to fit right in the Strat pickup holes without filing them bigger.
The cone-shaped strings that usually come on strat those are the best ones to use. I got a bag of them you want one or two or three or four or six🤔😁
A similar idea is the Lollar ROYAL T NECK pickup. It's a Tele neck pickup that emulates the Stratocaster neck tone. I own one and it sounds great. These are great things to try. Nice vid Dave.
Rock on!
That is a very good idea. Yes, and sometimes rubber is better.

My best playing guitars look like shit underneath the pickguard but on the outside you'd never know - they're beautiful and yes I have OCD too 😂
"...andI'm taking home two cases of tape for my own film making at home!" Har!

The cone ones are best because they flatten out you get more throw in your pickup hight.
Dave, I did 3 lipstick pickups in a strat mimicking srv 82 alpine white strat, sounds great!
Sorry about your back. Who knew that getting old would hurt so much.
I put a Tele bridge and b pick up in my strat.I would opt for p90 in the bucker hole
Know how you feel Dave. My back is held together with all kinds of hardware. Severe pain 24-365.
Yes, a filtertron pickup in the humbucker hole 🍺✌
I wonder how long Epoxy Mike would have waited for the glue to set if you hadn't checked on him ?
Holly Christ Dave, what were you thinking?
I enjoy watching you fabricobble, Dave!
This gives me a great idea, a Nashville tele on a Strat hardtail body.
Curious to see the full pickguard!
pic in face book group
Was that white material a 1/8 inch plus or minus an RCH? I need to know.
For those who don’t know, an RCH is the finest method of measuring.
Styrene plastic ..hobby shop
The absolute finest!🤠
@Jerry Morgan
After googling RCH, lolololololol
“Without tape, you can’t make a movie.” I’ll never view movies the same again.
Epoxy Mike made an new invention 1 part epoxy 😂
Lotsa sfx insider secrets on this one...
I like the new neon style opening.

Thanks for sharing Dave!
This strat should be extra twangy with this pickup addition for sure
Unfortunately it is the neck pickup. A Telecaster’s twang comes from the bridge pickup.
What’s it sound like? Next video….

Same reason that I'm also a patron. It's a bargain in the long run.
Dribble some fluorescent lime paint on the pickup and maybe use some gum instead of JB.
Dave, what the hell are you doing? Seriousely!
You again?

I'm no expert but seems a custom pickguard would be a better choice
parts guitar..FREE..get over it
Dave! What do you think of the new Pink Floyd tune?
never heard it
Great Mod Dave ! 👍
Great video.
Thanks!
wire the humbucker in parallel ?
It's not OCD; it's CDO, with the letters in alphabetical order.
Lolol
Grip tape, Gaffers Tape, Camera Tape.....etc.
Score 3 times? Hat trick!🤟
Stewmac has the tools that you need 👍
and many that you don't :)
Alot of their tools are bullshit you could come up with on your own
@@pigdick2233 yes, I agree. I was only kidding. 👍

You stole Reaume's knife?!?
that's me BAH !!
Yes, I CDO a lot!!!!!
Hi Dave, what's your thoughts on using earwax on a truss rod....
same thoughts I have for asshat comments like this.. NONE
Love you dave but are you really that bored?
yep

The distinctive smell of epoxy...

arc welding..wtf is wrong with you

I'd have to agree, on any pickup. I would have used an old pickguard to cut a trim mounting ring for the Tele pup.
TONE GODS SPEAK..right :(
would love real examples of this science
