RIP, Jeff Beck. Davey, I've lost track of how many years I've followed your antics, but it's more than a few now and I couldn't count the number of tips and tricks you've taught me. Bless your crusty old soul, my friend! I don't do this as a profession, but it sure is nice to be able to take care of your own shit and help out a buddy now and then. Peace and joy to you in the new year, my Brother to the north!
What, no steel wool?? (Joking, of course) I haven't tried to get the Super Lube but have used an old tube of powdered graphite on the nut slots of for my basses, seems to work fine but I welcome any thoughts on this. Today's movie is an excellent (and funny) tutorial on how to professionally set up a guitar, from soup to nuts, thanks Dave. And seeing a white Strat with a rosewood fingerboard immediately made me think of Jeff Beck and what a sad turn of events that happened to take his life. I pray that he did not suffer, he made so many people happy.
#Dave - Welcome back to the 'Interweb' (😉). Your absence during the 'inbetwix holiday season' was truly missed. So a Happy 2023 to you & yours. Oh, and may none of your customers want to pay you with a personal check.😂
Well this is the best fret work and setup I've seen on a strat for sure. Dave your the man and I've learned so much from you over the years. I'm a les Paul player but I have one strat. This is a nice strat. To the owner you sent it to the right man
That is the coolest thing I've ever seen bone for frets sound insanely good to. I bet it feels like playing on glass. And it should help the strings not wear down fast to.
Wow, lots of useful information today! Thanks, this one I will save. It's a shame about Jeff Beck. I practically wore out his 1974 and 1975 albums in my youth.
Such a beautiful axe! I have the 2012 Made In Mexico version of it with Maple fretboard...love all variations of White. My White Tele has a Rosewood fretboard. Love your videos Dave; you've taught me a lot.
Yep, RIP, Jeff. Damn, we've lost so many greats the past 15 years or so. Yeah, erasers are the bomb, I use them all the time. Stay warm, Guru Dave, and don't bust your back with the shovel!
Thanks Canuck. I’ve always picked up great tips from you. I have a new Player Strat that I think needs a fret job. What is the tool that you use for the crowning? Also I’ll miss Jeff as well. Keeps’m coming.
RIP Jeff Beck. He was doing shows until just recently. Shit, one day you're playing a show and the next day they're putting you into a hole in the ground. Life is fragile indeed.
Q: Only part of the frets are worn down. Is it possible to do a partial refret? Or do you continue levelling down to the most worn ones until it is no longer possible and then do a whole refret?
I was working on a 91 strat today doing the same thing. Great video Dave. One question I hope you will answer, how far off the guitar body is the back of the bridge? Is it decked?
I'm pretty sure that Stradivari guy didn't use a Dremal tool on his violin frets..and look what they are worth. ;) I feel like I'm catching Dave's sense of ironic sarcasm...
How do you know how far down you can sand/grind the frets before they are too low? Obviously I’m just learning 😬 but that wasn’t really clear to me. Nice job. Good tribute for Jeff Beck RIP 🪦 🎸.👍☮️🌞
hey Dave, I've been a nominal patreon/subscriber for years, but I've never chipped in for any merchandise ... however, if you ever decide to make a "kinda sounds like my butthole in the morning" shirt, I promise I will buy at least three ...
plek is only as good as the operator..there are at least 2 in the city here. the cost is about the same as what I do.. and you wait much longer to get your guitar back and still needs acomplete setup after Plek..Plek is a guitar manufacture, big box solution to not paying people
Man I have a couple guitars here I mess with and they seem to play fine. I am not too critical of myself but I wonder what my MIM Strat would sound like with a set up. I since 2008 and the only thing I do is change the strings and adjust the truss rod. I tried adj the pup height and it sounds okay I guess.
Why does everyone including so called professional luthiers do that v thing with their trem springs? Major manufacturers do it also. I discovered years ago when I first started playing had a trem guitar went into the back to fiddle with it see if I could make it work better and the damn middle spring popped out!Soon realised that the way the manufacturers had it set middle spring was doing sod all so either take it out or change the springs so they are straight.Mate didn't believe me when I told him he insisted that's the way it had to be until I reached into his strat trem cavity and pulled out middle spring.

Hey Dave, just wondering if you have a problem with Phil McKnight? I watch and enjoy your videos and saw the video Don't Know my Gear and it seemed like you were making fun of Phil. I like Phil and your channel both and that video annoyed me. I might not have took the video in the right way but I just wanted to let you know.

You're in top form Dave. That was a real pleasure.
Like you're grinding down a bad weld! 🤣🤣🤣
RIP Jeff Beck and David Crosby! Thanks! 😎
Best Strat setup I've seen Dave and some good tips particularly on the fret leveling.
Thanks for teaching me how to do my own set ups. Keep doing what you do, Dave.

Hi Dave!
Pretty Strat. Jeff would enjoy it ❤️
One of your best walkthroughs Dave - thank you
A good old fret repair video. Haven’t seen one in a while. Thanks
Sandwich hour tonight?
Thanks for another great episode Dave! Have a great happy, healthy year!
Thanks for a great year Dave and here's wish you a Happy "2023". I'll be along for the ride. Cheers!!!!!
That is the coolest thing I've ever seen bone for frets sound insanely good to. I bet it feels like playing on glass. And it should help the strings not wear down fast to.
Excellent Dave. Love the information and humour you give 👍
Where'd you get the fret erasers from?
solo guitars
We got hand-jacked by Dave again through the headphones........in the listening position.
Great video Dave. I love your quality of work and your humor. Your videos are always imformative an insightful. A joy to watch. Rock on brother!
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for the new video when you do a set up it never gets old I learn something every time:)
Glad to help
Wow, lots of useful information today! Thanks, this one I will save. It's a shame about Jeff Beck. I practically wore out his 1974 and 1975 albums in my youth.
Your favorite guitar players' ... favorite guitar player
Excellent!
I just subscribed, love your work and yes lots of us music fans are missing Jeff, thanks for your channel!!
Thanks for the sub!

Such an appropriate guitar on the bench today. RIP JB. ☮
Sweet machine. Whoever owns that is a lucky fellow.
A white Strat!-a nice tribute to Jeff-nice work Dave!
Good job, Dave. Nice guitar too.
Thanks!
Nice nod to Jeff Beck, Davey! Keep on rockin'.

Thanks Dave! Good stuff!
It sure is a bummer about Jeff Beck. Damn 😑 A setup on a Strat seems appropriate. Thanks Dave ✌🏼🍻
It's a cool coincidence that you're working on a Strat that's pretty much a Jeff Beck model 😎🎸
It's hard to imagine how Fendson and Gibder can expect two or three grand for new instruments that require a visit to a tech to make them playable.
Fun Stuff David!🍻
RIP Jeff Beck, that strat could have been his, nice tribute
As always watching you work is jest fascinating, no bull jest get right to it love ya.
Glad you enjoy it!
11:00 looks like Music Machine doing Talk Talk.
Good vid Dave.
Great work as usual Dave!!
I appreciate that
Terrific video Dave! Have a Good Weekend!!
Thanks, you too!
Given Jeff Beck's passing, kinda nice you're working on a well used strat, and a white one at that.
I appreciate you, thank you for making content.
No worries!
Rip Jeff beck. One of the best of all time
Can this Strat get away with a fret level because of tall frets on the 2017 Pro I?
Thanks Canuck. I’ve always picked up great tips from you. I have a new Player Strat that I think needs a fret job. What is the tool that you use for the crowning? Also I’ll miss Jeff as well. Keeps’m coming.
Weird question, how do you clean the fret erasers? I’ve had the same set for a few years now and they’re so dirty from fret material.
you wash them in soap and water..and get new ones at some point
RIP Jeff Beck. He was doing shows until just recently. Shit, one day you're playing a show and the next day they're putting you into a hole in the ground. Life is fragile indeed.
Good job Dave!
thank you Dave
Q: Only part of the frets are worn down. Is it possible to do a partial refret? Or do you continue levelling down to the most worn ones until it is no longer possible and then do a whole refret?
why? dress what's there
Snow is too cold
I put off the shovelling for a bit. Geez it doesn’t have to be the first thing after the morning coffee……
Do something productive and THEN shovel.
I think Halifax is the only place without snow in the country.
Well most of NS really but you’re probably right.
Wow that is a lot of fret wear for a 2017. Owner must have played the hell out of it.
22:55 I ain't superstitious ! Nice one Dave. Thanks for all your work.
No worries!
'Goodbye Pork Pie Hat' from Wired album would suit the mood.
Great video again Dave. Thanks from Downunder. Can I ask where you got the fret crowning tool from?
stew mac
@@DavesWorldofFunStuff thanks.
Nice vid, relaxing too!
Thanks! 😊
Have you ever tried the Micro Mesh stuff for sanding/polishing?
messy shit PASS
Dave, who makes your fret crowning tool?
a stew mac thing
I was working on a 91 strat today doing the same thing. Great video Dave. One question I hope you will answer, how far off the guitar body is the back of the bridge? Is it decked?
watch synchronise is the term one direction

Happy New Year Dave!!!
I'm so disappointed Dave , you did not give your usual comment about Ernie Ball strings. You're slipping LOL.
you know the joke..it tells itself at this point
@@DavesWorldofFunStuff You're right still funny to hear it from you Ba Ha HA
'Scuse me while I whip this out.
21:11 that's what she said, Dave
Polishing..Polishing……Polishing..
How long do those crowning tools last?
long time if you don't abuse them
Gently to the nut y'all. Gently to the nut. Until all of the blue is gone. 😁
I do use the Dremel to do final, pass last polish.
in a week nobody can tell :)
Yo, Dave
Was that Beck's Bolero?
How do you know how far down you can sand/grind the frets before they are too low? Obviously I’m just learning 😬 but that wasn’t really clear to me. Nice job. Good tribute for Jeff Beck RIP 🪦 🎸.👍☮️🌞
you measure them
@@DavesWorldofFunStuffSo you have a tool for measuring fret height? And when they are too low you re-fret? Thanks.

its not so much sound as being easier to play
I loved the quirky out of tune riff the most, it was great.
