- Ladies and gentlemen, may we present to you the Ventures version of “Blue Chateau” (cover), with Mina shooting at Travessa da Paixão, a.k.a. “The Alley of Love”, which is located right next to the Ruins of St. Paul’s. You know, it was the first ever western university in Asia, founded some almost 500 years ago. And yes, we are making good use of the autumn weather before typhoon comes again in a few days. What?!! It’s almost November now and we still get typhoons. Autumn had been gone for over 2 decades until it comes back this year. What else is new, hahaha!
Now, did we get stopped by guards this time? Travessa da Paixão is just a “travessa” (alley), so no guards. But we didn’t finish what we were saying last week, when the guard at the Guia Lighthouse decided to call the cops and her boss and alerted all her superiors.

--- Mina freaked out. I told Mina this: “Trust me, let's just continue”. When the cops arrived, they would not even approach us. The guard called her own security company first. More guards came, I told them the amp had no power cable, so it was for show purpose only. They said they understood. Then the Cultural Affairs Bureau people came. Someone looked at us for like 5 seconds, and came over to apologize for the unnecessary fuzz. The captain of some other guards came over and said it was just a misunderstanding. And then, cops came. They didn't even come near us, but for Mina, I think she really freaked out. I said this to Mina: "Don't worry. The cops would not even come over to ask what we were doing". And, they did not. They didn't come close. Mina asked me how come I knew. I asked if she remember who daddy gives training to sometimes. I told her the cops, the bureau people, and other guards would not kick us away because all they saw was a father with her kid daughter, shooting photos and videos holding a guitar at a famous tourist site, not making any noise nor disturbing anyone at all. I asked if Mina saw any sign saying no photos, and asked if she was making any noise. The place had all together 7 tourists perhaps? 1 lady watched us and at the end came over and asked politely if she could take photos of Mina playing the guitar, twice! She chatted with us, telling us how impressed she was to see a kid not phubbing all the time but picking up the guitar. On our way out, the same guard was at the entrance. Mina was embarrassed because her old dad explained to her that she (the guard) in a way represents our city, but she kept asking me to get approval from some directors or chiefs of the bureau before she could let us take photos and videos there (with my phone), and no lighting equipment, just 1 phone use flimsy tripod. I told her if she had seen any of the usual 40 million tourists that visit annually lately. She saw only 7 + us, plus the cops today. I said to the guard her job was very important because tourists wouldn't see those friendly and welcoming bureau directors or chiefs at the lighthouse and instead, they see a responsible guard almost pulling out a baton if she had one, only later on to find out her colleagues, the cultural affairs bureau people plus cops she alerted would not interfere what we were doing, let alone stop us from shooting something there. Mina was holding not a RPG, FM1 Stinger or Starstreak, but only an unplugged guitar. Mina kept asking me why the cops had not come over. I asked her this: "Would a cop stop a father from using a smartphone to take photos or shoot a video of his 12 year old kid playing the guitar unplugged? If the boss of the cop found out he interfered people doing such a thing at the Guia Lighthouse, you think the boss might think the cop could be a retard? Before I left, I told the guard to remember this old Chinese saying: "Don't be holding a chicken feather and think that it is an arrow used as a token of the general's authority". Mina thought I was so mean. I said I didn't raise my voice, nor didn't use foul language at all. I told Mina we just have to safeguard our rights sometimes.

It turns out that it is not so easy to record a video. It seems to me that the authorities everywhere do not think about us and our security, but about their rules and bosses.
But still you have wonderful music and on such a beautiful background. And of course, Mina looked especially beautiful.

Hahaha, it's not as easy as I thought. Of course, I understand people are just doing their job. Thank you for your kind words, and we thought once in a while filming outdoor would be interesting...the weather is nice here. We really like this song. ;-)
Our city is not that old comparing to other places, but it's wierd yet special cos this is among the very first places where the east first met the west some 500 years ago when Europeans first reached Asia by sea, and stayed. Hundred of years have gone. Many good things and not so good things have happened and right now, only one thing remains: amizade, which means friendship in Portuguese. ;-) I thought that is pretty cool. ;-)

Hello Mina. Wonderful music and gorgeous background photos with information. In Finland many towns and churches have been destroyed by the fire. The reason to these fires has been generally lightning and overheating. I love Ventures and always listen to it. I went to their live in 1977 and 1978 when Joe was the drummer.

Yap, not many people know the Ventures here, especially the younger generations. But when we perform, we often see Ventures fans coming over n tell us they used to listen to them too in the 60s n early 70s, n most of them were macanese or portuguese ppl... n said songs we play bring back good memories, as no one has played their music in macau for a long time！！

LOL, that incident with the guard brings to mind another old expression: Making a mountain out of a molehill. Translation: making a big fuss over nothing.
Methinks all those people the guard called will want to talk to someONE, but that someone is NOT you two. 😉😁
Tis understandable that Mina would be a little stressed over what happened, as it IS a little out of the ordinary to have so much fuss over so little. At same time, yes, you're right, you two have little (none actually) to fear as yer not in any wrong, nor are ye breaking any rules. I think the only thing odd perhaps is the fact it's locals with phone cameras and (unplugged) guitars and amps instead of the usual inane tourists. That and a guard who overreacted too much.
A Ferrarri F355? Nice unobtainium sports car! Here's one that's becoming almost as unobtainable: The 1984-88 Pontiac Fiero. In particular, the 1988 GT model with the 2.8L V6 and upgraded suspension. I still want to get one of this car! In red, of course!
The fiero is coming not obtainable?! What?!?! I hv forgotten how long it has been!!! It was quite easy to get a 355 not long ago at really reasonable prices, but i guess it is not so anymore. Not many ppl wanted the new ones, as the ppl who can afford them often want the latest. I guess more n more ppl like youngtimer classics too now :))))
@@PangPangguitarjam The last Fiero was made over 30 years ago, and they never was made in great numbers. Worse yet, Pontiac didn't get most of the car's issues sorted out until the last year, so many were junked or parted out to keep the remaining few running by the fans of these cars. I personally have seen only one car still running on the road. I have not seen any Fieros in the salvage yards in decades. Granted the used prices for these cars are not that expensive, the trick is finding one for sale.
