    I bought 4 of these HF machines (why? just because) since I saw this video last month. I re-greased and turned the body so the switch is on top following a video here on youtube. I can only compare it to my PC 7424XP. HF definitely has more power and has less vibration in my opinion. I do have the Rupes lhr15es and GG G21 but those are different machines. My only regret is not seeing this video sooner when I was still in Virginia 3 months ago (moved to Hawaii on July 21st) where the Norfolk Harbor Freight was just a few miles from me. Nevertheless I bought 4 (I can throw it away if it breaks down) so I can save in the shipping, around $40 via FedEx second day delivery.
    Thanks Scott!

    I just bought a DA. I am in Canada so I couldn't order the HF one. The next cheapest one was like $250 which I probably would not have spent. But after searching I found one on ebay, for $40. It had only one standard pic, no description except it has a brushless 12A motor and will last a long time. I checked the manufacturer website, same pic and description, found one other listing, same, lol, but $110 or something. I thought wth, so I ordered it. It's a beast! Idk enough to compare it, but it is a very good quality tool, digital RPM readout,. I been using it on low to wet sand overspray off my doors, very smooth easy to use, awesome.
    Brand is called MONSTER. No reviews on RUclips yet. peace

    I have Harbor Freight's Chicago Electric Platinum (w/ the Grey body).. 5.7 amp 2000 to 6400 OPM random orbital machine.. I've had this thing 6 years I believe and it still works great! I think I paid less than $50 ... it's like buying Nike when Asics actually feel better on your feet... but the world just has a certain view of you if you wear the Nike... I certainly understand why some people (especially professionals) would feel apprehensive about buying the Harbor Freight unit when someone may see that machine and think
    "this guy's not a professional detailer.. his buffing/ polishing machine isn't $200"....Lol

    • @jdisdetermined
      @jdisdetermined 5 лет назад

      Craig Cundiff I have the platinum too.. For the money it is an incredible machine, I put a 5" plate on it and tons of hours later it still works great and gives results comparable to machines 2 or 3x the price. Now I use it with a 3" plate and it is a powerhouse for ripping defects out of problem spots with that little pad. They seem almost fairly rare. Any idea what the differences are between it and the standard model?

    A thing to keep in mind: The price point might be your deciding factor, but what of longevity and life time warranty. You pay more up front but can expect factory attention following the guaranty period.

    I had this exact decision. Went with the griot's. Bought it for $130 shipped, tax included. The pad and aio were unexpected bonuses, sweetening the deal.
    I figured by the time I bought the hf polisher, replaced the backing plate, changed the grease and bearings, the cost would be much closer than $50 vs $130.
    I completely agree about having the pad stop spinning. Happens to me at least once per car, usually around the lower front and back portions.

    Nicely done. I've had the Harbor Freight DA for several years. I recently bought the newer model that you have. I have been very pleased with the performance of this machine. Compared to a Porter Cable, the Harbor Freight machine has more power. For a DYIer only using a DA 2-3 times a year, I highly recommend it. I also have a Griot's 3" mini and that also works great in tight areas.

    "in the real world" and as a paint correction specialist as you said you don't just use a 5.5 and 6.5 inch pads. you use 3 inch/2inch pads to polish those curves and body lines. there's a reason companies sell those small pads and polisher for specific work

    • @dallaspaintcorrectionautod8343
      @dallaspaintcorrectionautod8343  7 лет назад +34

      sure you can have other tools available with smaller pads for these areas..but in my opinion my harbor freight has enough power and without stalling where i can just get it with one machine and one pad...but yes i know some who will break out about 3 or 4 machines so they can do all the areas around the car..do what works best for you and your client:)

    Great comparison! I have the Griots for small basic jobs (it was my first DA) and a Rupes LHR21ES for my big jobs. There is definitely a BIG difference between the two!
    However, the way I learned to know when the polisher pad wasn't spinning was by simply putting a line with a paint marker on the backing plates. When the line would slow down or stop moving I knew to back off the pressure a bit. It really helped me build up muscle memory. I went from being a weekend amateur to a weekend novice really quickly.

    Next time to try and get your point across about pad rotation, simply place a black line with a sharpie on the backing plate. Then it will be much easier for the untrained eye to tell if your pad is stalling or not by looking to see if the black line is spinning or just stationary.

    Hey Scott, I stumbled across a video yesterday where the guy opened up a brand new Harbor Freight DA polisher. Apparently the grease they put in there is pretty cheap stuff and it is not even in contact with the gears. He cleaned it all out and repacked it with more grease of a better quality. Unfortunately there's no before and after comparison in the video, but several people commented that they tried it and said is significantly reduced noise and smoothed out operation. I suspect this will also extend service life. Just a FYI in case you didn't already know this.

    Scott - since it's not possible for you to mention (on a 2 year old video, lol) there is othen 2 different models of the Harbor Freight 6" DA Polisher in the store. 69924 & 62862 If I didn't see another video about it, I could have bought the "wrong" one. The higher number one is much better build quality. There's another video on it if folks search. Huge difference? No, but enough that I am glad I knew to get the 69924 - BOTH were on the shelf, all mixed together like it was the same tool. It's absolutely NOT the same. Check it out guys.

    Thanks for the videos! This one has convinced me to pull the trigger on the Harbor Freight polisher instead of one of the much more expensive polishers I've been looking at. I have no intention of starting a detailing business... I'm just a weekend warrior who wants to polish some swirls/scratches out of my own vehicles right now (and hopefully rarely thereafter) and then maybe apply wax/sealant once or twice a year. I think this tool (with a better backing plate & pads) should work just fine for my world. ;-)

    I wish I would’ve seen this a year and a half ago haha. I spent nearly $200 on a griots G9 kit and it’s hard to keep it spinning on flat vertical surfaces 🤦‍♂️ plus the backing plate on it was terrible and would let the pads roll off. It turned me into a rotary man haha, but I just got the new HF Bauer like this one for $40 this week for wet sanding and it’s been really stout so I’m going to give it a try on compounding.

    good video Scott would it be better to also have a dedicated 3" D/A for these smaller type areas? Griots has come out with a 6" gen 4 combo and you can also get the 3" D/A

    I'm about to buy 2 of these at the $49 Oct price, with the thought of having one with the 5" LC backing plate. I want to set up the other one for smaller tighter areas. How small can I go ? Do they make a 2.5 " BP the I could go with a 3 inch pad ? Or even smaller. I've seen the tiny and VERY expensive I Bird Nano machine. ALSO....Please make the mod video. I know you are very busy ( love the plane detailing and will add that to my marketing ) Much love, with your teaching I feel very comfortable starting my new biz Deluxe Vehicle Detailing and Paint Correction which became official last week !

    Hey Scott, I used the HARBOR FREIGHT Variable speed polisher, I used the orange pad to remove the scratches and scuff mark from a dent on my old mini van. In the process I burned through the paint. Now I'm just practicing it on my old car and today was the first time i tried using a machine. So do you suggest i use the dual action polisher to remove clear coat scratches and scuff marks or should i use the same machine to get the job done.
    I just bought a 2015 Black car need to remove lots of scratches and blemishes. So wanted to practice on a old car and then try the black car.
    Is there any way you can put up a video of how to use the dual action polisher to remove scratches and scuff marks like on a door, and how to use the machine near the body lines on the door.

IF so which brand would you prefer , what is your go to buffer on any vehicle? For the least amount of money? Period, THANKS SO MUCH BROTHER, YOU'RE A BLESSING ALWAYS. CEDRICK

    Hi Scott, Thank you for the review. I understand that you like 5' backing plates on your polishers, so would that mean you purchase the 6" DA polishers then buy 5' backing plates? which backing plates and pads do you prefer?

    Great vid Scott. U got a sub from me. I just literally got this 15min on the labor day special. Def waiting for that vid on the mod u described. Question, others have stated that the gear grease should be replaced to improve sound quality which some have said to improve by better than 80%? Dont know how true that is. Have u done this with your DA?

  • @breadfan9
    @breadfan9 6 лет назад

    THAT'S EXACTLY WHY I BOUGHT THIS BECAUSE I DONT WANT TO TAKE OFF ANY PAINT. That is what professionals are for. if you want power, then as a professional you MOST LIKELY need a ROTARY polisher. Im not saying DA is only for dummies, but many manufacturers say this: ROTARY=Professional and DA=Beginners

      Its no longer available. It was replaced / re branded as a Bauer. I picked mine up on sale for 60 bucks on sale. . Replaced the grease. Replaced the backing plate with a higher quality 5 inch plate. ( dont use the one that comes with it. Its junk) Works great.

  • @kosusi2002
    @kosusi2002 7 лет назад +3

    It looks like you have a smaller pad(5-in i think) on the DA polisher from Harbor Freight, so you can go easier on those curves with a 5-inch plate/pad than with the 6-inch plate/pad from the Griot's polisher. Its just physics...

    • @dallaspaintcorrectionautod8343
      @dallaspaintcorrectionautod8343  7 лет назад +4

      yes you are correct..after 26 years of paint correction i understand that..but with that said the griots with a 6inch backing plate is a huge fail on curved panels and even placing a 5 inch backing plate it still stalls far more then the harbor freight dual action polisher..just a fact:)...it would be nice since griots sells the unit with a 6 inch backing plate and most will just use that plate and get poor results around curved panels that they would either increase power or sell it with a 5inch backing plate as well to give people more options and power when needed or at least tell the buying public if they want better results they will need to use a 5 inch backing plate with their polisher
