The Hot Toys Christopher Reeve Superman is 10 years old, but it doesn't look like a 10 year old figure. The head sculpt is phenomenal. Christopher Reeve's likeness is 100% accurate. The hair looks great and I like the Superman curl. I like the blue eyes as well. The suit is nice and vibrant. I remember buying the figure a while back from a local comic book store. It was either this one or the Michael Keaton Batman, which was a tough choice, but I ended up getting Superman instead. Of course, they are both iconic and legendary. They are amazing representations of their respective actors and characters in 1/6th scale figure form. However, I was only able to get one of them unfortunately. Aftermarket prices for both pieces are pretty high and the odds of Hot Toys re-issuing them is practically non-existent, but I could be wrong. Wonderful photos by the way! Thanks, Dean! I really appreciate the hard work! Keep it up! God bless and stay safe!
This is the figure that Hot Toys should have re-released with PERS OR MERS eyes for the WB 100 year celebration. That would have been much appreciated release by the fans. I just understand how Hot toys can be soooo out of sync with what their customers really would want.
A truly glaring omission. Superman was the "big bang" for Superheroes at the cinema, and for many, including myself, Reeve's casting and performance, in both guises, is among the greatest of all time, not only within the Superhero genre, but all of cinema. I find it hard to believe that Hot Toys may not be making another one because they feel it won't bring in the cash? I have my fingers crossed, hoping they might yet surprise us, but if so, they are leaving it late. Perhaps until 2028, for the films 50th anniversary?
One of the few figures that still holds strong after many years. The head was very well sculpted and ahead of its time. It actually looks better than the recent Christopher Reeve statues in larger scales. H.T. should revisit this one and update the chest symbol and give us leather boots.
Superman is my favorite superhero and this figure in particular has been a personal grail id like to one day have. Maybe one day, or maybe hot toys will come out with a new version, though it’s doubtful. Still thank you for the showcase!
What a beautiful figure...love that head sculpt. Christopher Reeves is the Superman I grew up watching and George Reeves my father grew up watching. Love how they paid respect to Christopher Reeves in the Flash as well as Nicholas Cage's version of Superman.
A great figure, one which has held up really well. The portrait still blows my mind. Your outstanding photography (and natural outside footage) illustrates just how good it is, some of which could almost pass as film stills. That said, we really need a 2.0, a DX, because several improvements can be made: - The sculpt. While the eyes are almost perfect with their expression and likeness, the paint apps and realism need to brought up to todays standards. Moveable eyes are also a must. The nose needs to be narrowed, as with his eyes, Reeve's nose was also very distinctive. - The body needs to be taller. Reeve was 6'3-4 (Bale is just shy of 6 foot). Improvements need to be made where the legs tuck into the hips. Because of this, the physique looks awkward when viewed from the side, very toy like. - The costume needs various tweaks to make it more screen accurate and robust - it's so easy to snag the current outfit. - Extras: a crystal control podium with the all important green crystal; a Fortress of Solitude backdrop; a lenticular hologram of Jor El; and most important of all, a Clark Kent figure - Christopher's Clark Kent was equally as iconic as his Superman. He did so much to distinguish the two characters, such as changing the tone of his voice (as well as stammering/stuttering), posture, mannerisms, and if I remember correctly, smiling/smirking on the other side of his face. He wasn't simply Superman wearing a pair of glasses (like how Cavill was directed), he was so much more.
I would love an updated version! A DX with this head repainted and a new head with him smiling, maybe a Clark Kent figure to go with it, like the JND statue 2 pack. Wishful thinking!
Fantastic video, Dean! That camera is awesome! Your lighting is second to none! Those atmospheric shots ROCK! In fact, the first one in the fortress of solitude is now my new computer wallpaper! ✌Amazing captures of an amazing figure!
“And over the last few years we have heard a lot about something called ‘family values’. And like many of you, I have struggled to figure out what that means. And since my accident, I've found a definition that seems to make sense. I think it means that we're all family. And that we all have value.” Christopher Reeve, speaking at the Democratic National Convention in 1996. What a Super Man.
This was the case for me. 10 years ago, I was casually looking on Amazon to find a Superman figure, when I happened upon this Masterpiece. I couldn't believe my eyes, I thought it was fake, or grossly exaggerated. Then I saw the price.... It was approx £300. I then had a look on YT and that's when I discovered Dean's exceptional showcases of the figure. I just had to get it, but couldn't justify the price. Not long after, I found the Hot Toys Evil Superman for £150. It was awesome. One week later, I found this figure on eBay for £209 and snapped it up. I was well and truly down the rabbit hole.
Incompetence on their part, a failing to read the market? I mean, they've made so many figures who are nowhere near as popular as Christopher Reeve's Superman. I find it very hard to believe it's because they feel it won't make them money, at least in the West. Could it be licensing issues? But then we see many other smaller companies producing CR at varying scales in figure/statue form. Who knows? Maybe they're holding off until the films 50th anniversary in 2028?
The simplicity is what makes this suit so iconic. The Superman returns suit was so over stylized that it ruined it. Cavil suits were better, but you really can’t beat this one. It just works. Good popping color. I hope James Gunn gives us a gray suit with his movie.
I tried to cross the arms also but this body apparently doesn’t have a swivel in the bicep so is impossible to get it done. I have it and is starting to deteriorate, neck ball piece has cracked and the inside of the left bicep the suit has started to come undone. I would love it if they do a 2.0 with a second set of boots in the flying position and a second head sculpt smiling.
I sadly don’t collect these figures, though I wish I could. I will say, Christopher Reeve was a beautiful man and they did him justice with that face sculpt & body. Also, Reeves Superman should be taller as he was 6’4 and Affleck was 6’2 & Keaton at 5’9, so that made sense.I am obsessed with your collection, bummed I never got into the figures, especially DC & Marvel would be so fun to collect.😊
He looks to have been very lucky. I'm careful with my figures, yet my figure has had the cracked neck socket (I managed to replace it), slight paint wear on the Adams apple, and light snagging on the suit. I ended up by a second figure, one for posing, one for a museum pose Some of those issues are very common with HT figures up to around 2014, Terminators in particular.
❤It definitely looks a lot better than that crappy Sideshow statue that came out just recently! I’ve always wanted this one, but it commands a very hefty price on the secondary market. Still, I’d be willing to pay for it!
Hot toys please make an update. We need some slight improvements, . A better S. a little more muscle, and 3 head sculpts for some of his iconic emotional expressions
I truely wish Hot Toys would release this figure again...such a great piece from a amazing movie!
So beautiful seeing the classic Supes and Bats standing next to one another. Wow

Asian people can be strange, though . So I'm not surprised at all
This was my very first Hot Toys figure. Bought him back in 2012. Still have him! And in minty condition.
Those still photos you shared are amazing.

Love watching this video! True elegance!
Many thanks! 🙂

I am sure this a figure that pulled many into the hobby.

That's my Superman, trust me I'm extremely annoyed with hot toys. They should release it but probably won't and probably move on from hot toys

The colouration of the S outfit...
he still hold fine even this old figure not been bettered

Classic costume Superman.
Great review Dean, any problem with the neck peg?

Seems ok duder. Some paint has come away on his Adams apple though. Forgot to mention it.

I guess you did watch The Flash by this revieuw we need a 2.0 this is the time
CHRISTOPHER REEVE bester Superman
Superman forever!!! Donde puedo conseguir la figura de superman?
Hot toys please make an update. We need some slight improvements, . A better S. a little more muscle, and 3 head sculpts for some of his iconic emotional expressions
What stand are you using?
I think Inart should've done this guy instead of Henry Cavill. With Arnie Kim doing the headsculpt.
Supergirl in prison garment - accessory her suit
Hmm maybe I'll buy
Its body custom???
I think I prefer the evil version
🤷 Promo'SM
Sold mine and never opened it.
