So after hearing from the designer that we played the administrator track wrong I have to change my rating to a 8. The administrator track should reset every turn and this would have changed a few things that we did during this play.
The first thing you said that really prompted me to take a second look at this one was, "This is a loooooong game ..." Music to my ears! Interesting seeing it on a table. The board is surprisingly large! (to me, anyway)
After Napoleon's actual surrender I do wonder why he still carried out battles defending certain French cities ..... ... .... ... ... I guess he thought he didn't have much Toulouse..
I like long solitaire game, so I think this one is for me. I wonder why I did not subscibed to this channel earlier. I only watched the Player's Aid, but your content is a bit different. For those who don't know, "Le chant du départ" was the Imperial hymn
Welp, you guys sold me on the game HAHAHAHA It was on my peripheral for a while and I had reservations on if the player had meaningful choices. Now the playtime isn't too much of a negative, or the setup or cleanup. Mostly because Mr. President is a BEAST to get going and it stays on the table for weeks, so I consider I, Napoleon as a sort of.....lighter Mr. President. Hopefully I can get my copy this upcoming week.
I quite enjoy this game! While the game is a little long I will say that once you get a couple games in the playtime lowers SIGNIFICANTLY. You really get the hang of the board state and what triggers are happening. There really needs to be a cheat sheet that is a little matrix that shows which card triggers which as I also missed many cards that were supposed to be removed. In the end, I don’t think it changes the game in a significant way but it does feel bad when you aren’t playing correctly because of minor oversights. Really enjoying it and making me want to learn more about Napoleon for sure!
Looks good thanks for the video. I ordered it this morning. I am not sure that "If you play the game wrong it will cause you problems later in the game" is exactly something you can blame on game design. Maybe I misunderstood what he was getting at. As far as length that just makes it better. Its gonna cost me 15 bucks an hour to go to a movie if ya count the popcorn and if i pay 70 dollars for a game that takes 5 hours to play I am ahead even if I never play it again.
Could it be that you played administration incorrectly? During each clean up phase, A & D are reset to zero. I only started going into EMD, but I haven't seen any A higher than 5-6 per turn and your marker is at 30+
It depends on what kind of game you want. If you are looking for a multiplayer experience, Prime Minister is fantastic. I haven't played it solo. Mr. President is amazing, but it is a bear to learn and put on the table. I, Napoleon is a happy medium. It's big, long, and really demands attention - but it is relatively easy to learn and if you push through it you could probably finish in an evening. Hope this helps.

At least it's not another blown-apart joke!
I got one but it’s in French it doesn’t translate well since it’s a word play on both Napoleon and Josephine names

Can't wait to get my copy .Just a beautiful looking game ;-)
It is indeed.
Once i got used to the game i found I could bang my way through a full campaign in about 2 hours.
I hope I get to that state. Thanks.
