This is a video I've been wanting to make for a while, but something like this takes a dozen hours to make. The support of EHG in making this made it much more feasible. Also 0.9 is a big patch and the game's getting a ton more attention right now so perfect timing really. I set out to make a beginner's guide, and originally it was going to be very different. But I realized that LE's biggest strength is in it's beginner friendliness and how empowered the individual player is to make their own build and craft their own gear. And so I realized the only right way to make this video was to lean into that! Teach the skills behind making your own successful characters (not just telling you what build to play and giving you a walkthrough). I hope it helps, enjoy and thanks for attending my ted talk.
Great guide! I love it when content creators encourage players to experiment and make their own build. Also a big thank you to the devs for implementing helpful in-game tools such as the guide and customized loot filters. It communicates that you want us the players to succeed as well.
Hello Ziggy, just by reading the text in your comment made me smile so hard: "But I realized that LE's biggest strength is in it's beginner friendliness and how empowered the individual player is to make their own build and craft their own gear. And so I realized the only right way to make this video was to lean into that!" I am really impressed by this and your whole approach, this is a great ressource that truely tries to give the player all the tools to succeed in this game on their own terms, without blindly following some build. Really appreciate the shoutout as well and your own explaination of the loot filter was great as well! Even though you hinted at this, I want to emphasize again, that even my Loot Filter is only a template that will serve well up to a point and need further customization! This video is a truely vast and yet concise ressource for all the basic! Greetings from Germany, Heavy
Best beginner friendly guide I’ve seen so far! Straight to the point but not skimming on the important nuances while inviting you to explore certain facets of the game for yourself to gain a better understanding. Very well done!
Same here, friend.... Except I couldn't wait anymore and season 3 of D4 is a flop, so I just decided to go ahead and get the early access. From what I read and understand, it might be a good thing to do if you intend to play this game ALOT. That way you can finish the campaign and be ready for end game stuff once the game fully releases. I read that your character/progress won't be erased, rather it will be more akin to how seasons work on Diablo and PoE. Also, getting in a little early and diving into the mechanics and everything else the game has to offer seems like a huge boon to me. I have only played for about 45min, compared to the 700+ hours I've put into D4 😱😅 but I can say that it seems like a lot of fun, and I'm super interested in seeing just how it all turns out. Also, the devs state that things won't be removed or changed drastically come release, so that was reassuring for me when deciding to get the early access or not
It's been about a year since I played LE, but thanks to all the D4 talk/hype I decided to dive back into LE and have been pleasantly surprised. I put aside leveling my Beastmaster and gave Paladin a try and gotta admit, I have had this much fun leveling in a game in a long time.
I just started playing this game and this guide was extremely helpful as I was unsure of how/when to use the crafting system and what the loot filter did. Thank you.
As the people have mentioned, GREAT GUIDE!!!! Learned so much! Stoked to dig into this game, thank you for clearing up a lot of my curiosities and helping me be more efficient as I send my wolves and raptors and scorpions into battle! You rock ZiggyD!!!!
My man thank you for this. D4 was my first ARPG game and now im hooked with the genre. I appreciate the time it took to make this, it answered quite a few questions for me. I only have about an hour into the game, I started as a sentinel and going void so knowing when I can unlock that mastery really helped along with some of the basics of crafting. I tried POE and it was fun but I got overwhelmed with the loot and selling everything but last epoch seems a lot different in that aspect and that loot filter will be real helpful. thank you
thank you so much for this. Just getting started so I want to find out about classes myself while getting help on the core mechanics. this guide did just that, thanks!
I just bought the game and I can see myself referring back to this excellent beginners guide for some time coming..... expecially the crafting and loot filter parts.
Hi, I usually don't write many comments but this guide is so insanely useful. I'm only on my second char and don't know a lot about the game yet so the general information in this video for different types of builds is sooo nice! Also thanks for motivating me to use crafting materials. Before watching I wasn't sure if crafting is worth a lot before the endgame. Thanks so much for this great guide! Really appreciate it
I read the whole explanation, now what? :D Great video by the way! As a beginner I tried my own build; didn't turn out that well. Respecced to a build guide (from maxroll) now and already going much better. With your tips I have hopes to be able to create my own build next run :)
Even though I knew this stuff, this video was excellent! My number one tip for the loot filters is that, once you know what skill you want as a 'main', use the filter to highlight anything with the affix that boosts its level, and shatter any that aren't good enough to use. It's a pretty rare affix but one you'll basically always want, and the sooner you're able to find them and get shards, the better!
Bought Last Epoch 2days ago. More playtime than in D4 now. Blizztard is just a big storefront with a nice cinematics department and some cool outlaws in the classic sod team....
This did not age well, D4 honestly needs a revival, haven’t got one character to higher than level 80, played last epoch in 3 days, level 60 and this game seems more versatile in almost every other way
LE is extremely refreshing arpg. Playing the class/subclass/skills from early is a massive bonus. Gearing is straight forward and not punishing. Multiplayer is worth while and enjoyable. Can't wait for the remaining subclasses and expansion in the future 🤟
True. But the base gameplay and depth make for a satisfying experience. The polish and narrative can come later if the main game is deep but not a job.
I gave this video a like because it was very helpful. I apparently have this game and played about three hours of it last summer and did not remember it. After opening it up I remembered my issue: I was level 11 and tried to respec to fine tune my build, and all but one of my skill points disappeared, which annoyed me, so I quit, and never really went back. I was looking for something to play this weekend, and found it in my library, and here was this video. And yeah, my instinct last year was accurate. Not for me. If a "beginner's guide" has this level of complexity, I can't imagine what a deep dive would be like. I'll stick with the simpler ARPGs like Titan Quest and Grim Dawn for now while I wait for Titan Quest 2. Thanks for the guide.
The way I like to word endurance to avoid confusion is that it reduces damage taken against the health that's below your threshold. Even if you qualify it after, saying it reduces damage "while at low health" can cause a lot of confusion since that's not the whole truth. (It's not technically wrong, but it doesn't tell the whole story.)
That's such a clever way to do resistances! Thanks for the clear explanation. I've always found it annoying how, in games like PoE, not having capped resists isn't an interesting choice your making, it's just a death sentence. This system is much more to my taste :D
Per instructions: Read the entire thing; mechanics are always fun. That's a very interesting resistance system, and I'm definitely curious to sit down and work through the implications. Insofar as damage is balanced around 0% net resistance, the damage/defense tradeoff feels more interesting to me than in other games I'm used to.
Whenever I looked something up Path of Exile related, Ziggy always delivered. Always. It is nice to see, that he also does that exact same thing when it comes to the "new cool game" I am trying out right now. 😁👍 Thanks, Ziggy. You are a true bro. 😁
Since English isn't my first language, even if LE is beginner's friendly, it can be tedious to read everything to figure out how things work, so this very well done guide is very welcome, thanks!
What an awesome guide. I am 100% not dogging or saying build guides are bad - but man - there are so many now that it almost feels like the game is just played out for you. I love maxroll, boardman, and a few of the others - but there’s not as many straight guides like this that leave some of the mystery open. (Though we are seeing more!) One of the things I liked about LE is that they tried to push for a balance of causal with a high ceiling. I love PoE but I can’t do crap in that without a guide, it’s so much info.
Totally agree honestly but thats just how modern gaming is. It really hurts games like this, Diablo or PoE (although I totally get why someone would for PoE as its way too over complicated for the average player). The whole point of these games are to play through the entire game and slowly learn what kind of play style you want to use.
One thing to mention is that crit damage does not affect damage over time. But you can stack a lot of damage over time. I havent played very long but one thing i do know is this, stack health, and stack resistance, and finally stack deeps!
One of the things I try to stress to newcomers is that this game is far less reliant on build guides than others in the genre. Advice from the devs is to pick an archetype you want and then start playing, as it was purposefully made to accommodate off-meta builds. Mike from EHG loves "builds that shouldn't work"!
Thank you Ziggy, I always look to you when I'm learning a new game. I have a minion build - and I think I remember seeing somewhere that they only thing that effects minions are things that specifically say 'minion' - but it seems that's not the case. ..? Or maybe some things that fight by you aren't minions? Or maybe some of your stats effect them? Just not clear. But fun game - just got a necro over 50 (and your guide showed me how much I had no clue about)
Generally speaking, yeah, they have to specific minions to apply to them. However, things like your intelligence scales the skill that summons them (giving skeletons 5 health and 4% damage for example). Character level also scales their health typically.
Also great timing on EHG’s part working with you - a lot of people tried D4 and are now back in the ARPG mood and they want things like this to tide them over… little do they know, games like this may keep them from wanting to go back to D4 if the systems in LE are much better than in D4… who knows. Great marketing play though EHG/Ziggy!
Amazing game. It needs some action music, though. Sometimes I'm ripping through stuff and notice a calm harp playing, it feels off. Can't wait for factions and more endgame content. They keep doing it right and LE might just turn into one of the best ARPGs. God I love the intuitiveness of this game, at least compared to others in the genre. You don't need extreme complexity and 100 different currencies to have a fun game (cough cough PoE). And though I actually was kinda "addicted" to PoE's lightning fast combat at Endgame, this game made me reflect. Is it really combat in PoE or just a stat check against trash mobs? For some time now, any build that doesn't instadelete every pack, including rares, is considered slow. Last Epoch needs some more movement speed scaling speed in my opinion, but it really makes you appreciate rare monsters being a threat and actually paying attention to what you're doing.
I'm actually looking into a build for my 2nd character because i completely screwed up my first one without a guide and people in chat telling me I am a complete idiot and moron. I got all way to endgame with my Sentinel Forge Guard playthrough, I chose forge guard because i really liked the hammer throw skill with the hammers circling me so i thought this path would complement it with more throwing type passives. And i been playing with little difficulty and decent enough clearing speed even as i started doing the end game monolith of fate end-game activities. but then i seen people in the public chat mention how a lot of builds and classes are completely broken and this game will never success until they fix them and specifically mentioned my build that I happened to be playing. I at first told them they are not right, i literally am playing a hammer throw build with that class and subclass with no issue. They explained my bulid won't be able to handle corruption level 800+. I said well i can just respec then, no big deal. they laughed and said jno you can't, once you pick the subclass mastery you can't respect it and told me you can only put up to 10 points into the subclasses you didn't choose as your mastery. this was super frustrating as it's yet another game you can't just blinding play without a build, so you suggesting players can play without a build is just not correct. Now i'm working on looking up builds to play that won't be broken at end-game, specifically looking into some necromancer summoning builds and making sure that I hopefully don't make the same mistake again and waste another whole weekend+ leveling up another char to 80 to find out it's broken. So yea even with someone experienced with playing ARPG's my whole life, at least casually, it's still easy to accidently choose a very bad class mastery that can't do end-game content and game didn't clearly give me any reason to doubt the class i chose, but aparently i'm a complete and utter idiot for thinking it was a good idea per all the people in the chat in-game. My question is, why would Last Epoch allow classes in game to be chosen without a warning if it can't do end-game, I know it's beta but they should at least put a "difficult" rating on each class to warn newbies that class they may want won't be able to do end-game easily or at all. I hate wasting time having to play through campaign many times due to this mistake.
Dang, I did not realize you could get different items from Ezra's quest. I keep getting the gamblers amulet and selling it. :( Time to quickly raise another newbie.
Is there a way to build a "rotation" of sorts? Can't stand the POE one-button spam style of play, but the restrictive system it uses for 6 links makes it impossible to play any other way. So I want to try this if I have an option for more depth in combat.
Depends on your build, but overall since you can specialize in all of the skills on your skill bar (which is like having a six link for each skill) this is less a problem in last epoch. You're encouraged to have and use a variety, but there's generally only a need for 2 damage dealers in most builds (1 AoE 1 single target, or 1 burst and 1 sustain/generator for example)
I am having one hell of a time following some build guides/videos/planners, and you said something at around 3:25, that makes me even more confused. So, I can spec a skill, but not have it on my bar, and it'll still get xps? Did I hear that correctly? Or am I just eternally confused ATM? My current dilemma is that the videos/guides I have been watching here do not jive with he build planner(s) they link. Or, even worse, that the build planner, and the skills on the bar don't jive either. Man, I just need to understand this sticking point for me as I am confused AF right now. :(
Just started playing.. no idea what I’m doing… so I just click the same two attacks, shred through mobs, go to the anvil place, and upgrade whatever it lets me .. been working good
@@flag_us nice one! Werebear is really fun. I'm looking forward to working on the endgame guide, there's some great interplay between the dungeons and the later stages of the monoliths
Nicely done but my god my head hurts from trying to following it all. I was doing well through how skills works and what attributes you are looking for but the ailment part omg just a lot to take in. Hopefully it's less confusing as I start playing more.
Learning a game as you go is often the best way to go, you don't need to know everything at once! You can always refer back to here or the in game guide as needed. Enjoy!
@@ZiggyDGaming I can agree, but at the same time POE is a complete unique monster with it's difficulty, number of crafting systems, and best of all punishing effects for a wrong build that's not perfectly synergized. So it pushed you quickly into the spread sheets and build calculators. Going with I like this just doesn't work too easily in that game.
Had a lot to say in this one, I was definitely a bit faster than I usually like to go but if you go over 30mins for a beginner's guide then a lot of people will "nope" out.
just started playing and its 9ne of the first arpg where I did not look up builds or guides before playing because it feels like whatever I do its not going to block me from being powerful
very nice guide! just wondering: i started playing today and instantly hiding white and blue items in the lootfilter.. should i undo the blue ones? thx alot
Hiding blue items is overall pretty fine but its nice to also make a rule that overrides that hide to show blue items with modifiers you really want for crafting (like added levels to your main skill)

@@Dr3adful thanks mate really appreciate that! I'm really impressed with the frequency and quality of content you're putting out mate!
how about a guide about Keys and dungeons as well as the bosses and what the dungeon is actually used for :)
Great guide! I love it when content creators encourage players to experiment and make their own build. Also a big thank you to the devs for implementing helpful in-game tools such as the guide and customized loot filters. It communicates that you want us the players to succeed as well.
The upcoming? 2019 bro. And it's still better than D4.
Great “teach em how to fish” style guide, well done!

Nice tutorial, thank you.
Very helpful thanks for the guide
I didnt even play the game .. just came from d4 beta. Great job
After playing the Diablo IV beta I confidently believe that Last Epoch and Diablo IV are going to be the go to ARPGs for this year.
Thank you for telling me what to spend my gold on :P
Don't plan on playing the game until the item factions are out and there's a sale but I'm very interested in trying it out
I did read to the end of your res cap notes as a PoE player it seemed important lol
Really helpful, thanks!
A well made guide. No doubt.
Great Guide!!
Nice! Thank you!
Dang, I did not realize you could get different items from Ezra's quest. I keep getting the gamblers amulet and selling it. :(
Time to quickly raise another newbie.
Tbh I only just learned that one too and I always did the same thing! Haha
Thanks a lot! ❤
Ahoy, nice vid ziggy :)
@ZiggyD Gaming Sounds good enough to me. Thank you for replying
Yes I read the whole explanation at 10:58 😂
Just started playing.. no idea what I’m doing… so I just click the same two attacks, shred through mobs, go to the anvil place, and upgrade whatever it lets me .. been working good
Thank you for the guide! I have questions should i worry aboht building my character when im max level or from the start? I mean gear
Will this be apart of a series? :)
Planning on doing an endgame guide next week!
@@ZiggyDGaming Great! I’m about to finish the campaign on my first play through, cold dot werebear
@@flag_us nice one! Werebear is really fun. I'm looking forward to working on the endgame guide, there's some great interplay between the dungeons and the later stages of the monoliths
@@ZiggyDGaming ill be looking forward to it! been watching since harbinger or the league before it. love your format
awesome video!!
10:54 I did read it :D point taken!
I've read the thing Ziggy
How could you? 😢
I'm so happy you are back, and you are covering last epoch, but my advice to you is to slow down, you talk too fast
Had a lot to say in this one, I was definitely a bit faster than I usually like to go but if you go over 30mins for a beginner's guide then a lot of people will "nope" out.
Most content creators talk way too slowly. Ziggy has a perfect pace, and I can understand him fine even on 1.5x speed
Super easy to adjust playback speed. I think the pace was solid, but I listened to it at 1.25 speed.
just started playing and its 9ne of the first arpg where I did not look up builds or guides before playing because it feels like whatever I do its not going to block me from being powerful
very nice guide! just wondering: i started playing today and instantly hiding white and blue items in the lootfilter.. should i undo the blue ones? thx alot
Hiding blue items is overall pretty fine but its nice to also make a rule that overrides that hide to show blue items with modifiers you really want for crafting (like added levels to your main skill)
Thanks buddy
i am a little confused, i try to drag and drop my new skills from the skills window to my skillbar but it doesnt work, it looses it somehow.
You can click the skillbar slot and select it from the popup in there.
i did read the explaination
Awesome!
How do you delete trash gear lol I can’t fig it out
Vendor it for gold or chuck it on the ground like it's trash at a 1960's picnic.
10:59 - yes
Nice thanks
I'm really curious about the other endgame systems, like Lost Memories.
