Designed immediately following and in the Speedster tradition, the Convertible D was in production for one model-year only, until it was then renamed the Roadster and the A body shape was discontinued and replaced by the T-5 B.
Known as the Convertible D because the cars were bodied by the German coachwork firm Drauz, they retained all the spirit of the early Speedsters and yet whilst alike at first glance, offered a few simple but worthwhile improvements. - Namely more comfortable seats, wind-up glass side windows, plus an all weather top and higher windscreen, all of which added up to much improved comfort and practicality.
Only 1,331 Convertible Ds were built between August 1958 and September 1959, before the T-5B Roadster was introduced.
The Convertible D is considered the rarest production Porsche.
