I really like this Old Blood Noise Endeavors pedal. The Dark Star is a game-changer for guitar sound. Venturing into uncharted territory that can only improve. By combining reverb, delay, and modulation, it creates a unique sound that's inspiring, whether it is played clean or distorted.

Excellent demonstration of its capabilities, as always. The original Dark Star is legendary and this version offers much to get excited about. The 2 octave up/down instead of 1 is a nice touch. The expression controllable filter knob is the real game changer here though. I'm not looking to go back to a stereo rig, but if I were, this would be an absolute must. If reduced to only 2 pedals for the rest of my life, the original Dark Star run into the Earthquaker Dispatch Master would keep me supplied with ample ambient bliss. I'd love to hear this new Dark Star with the Expression Ramper sweeping the filter, like you showed, feeding into an Avalanche Run. That's gotta be the stuff dreams are made of.
Dang I thought I had the ultimate pedal when I got the dark light, can't wait for that darkest lighting with all these add-ons together it's going to be insane
Dark Star Stereo and Dark Light combined is just nuts, especially if you play in stereo. Set Dark Star stereo to a more subtle stereo image (Spread around 1-2 o'clock) and then set Dark Light to full width (Spread at Max). The stereo textures are insane!

Outstanding playing Sefan. Sublime. This pedal has a haunting melonchoy i love. Some settings remind me of DBA Rooms in that it has a textural expansiveness type of sound, almost tactile. There are lots of varied sounds from this, but it's a niche sound, which it does exceptionally well. I think I'd place this at the end of the signal chain; I'm not a fan of pre-dirt reverb. Once again, thanks for all your inspiring demos. Kudos.
This is amazing!! I love my Dark Star (V2 I believe), but I agree that it was always begging for stereo. I was a bit worried when they discontinued it, but this is really amazing. After seeing how awesome the Dark Light is, I wonder if OBNE is considering a stereo Sunlight now... Wonderful playing as always Stefan!!
Cool pedal, love having stereo and presets. Don’t think it will replace my V2, though. Love the ease of just switching modes and tweaking. Every demo I’ve heard of the V3 so far makes it sound like a super versatile shimmer reverb instead of the weird beast the V2 was.

I think at the time, I was in a period of developing my style of playing vs. technical ability and using the Dark Star really catapulted me into an atmospheric headspace. The built-in saturation is so cool! Can go from subtle lo-fi grit to full blown-out shoegaze machine. It's so cool! They jammed so many cool new features in there but without making it overwhelming in any way. In my book they solved the upgraded Dark Star conundrum to perfection
Aside from the large form factor, this is a perfect pedal! I have the V2 and will definitely be getting this one. It should be mentioned that the V3 has moved on from the FV-1 digital chip, so it should have even higher audio quality (on top of stereo and all the other features). This is a gamechanger for OBNE!
It's honestly not a very big enclosure. It's a bit smaller than 1 ½ original Dark Star. And since it has top mounted jacks, it actually takes up a bit less space on your board than a normal Dark Star with side jacks would . And yes, the audio quality is indeed on a completely different level compared to the original. This pedal is a pure home run 😍🤩

Good to see You again Stefan :D I have desire for Dark Star since 2021 when my pedalboard journey began. Especially when I saw what weird soundscapes it can create with EQD Transmisser ;) I was eyeing for it, but after I got myself more into synths world, practicality won over desire as monophonic pedals with stereo synths were too much of a downgrade for me. But now I think there are no more excuses XD Cheers !
Expression Ramper always opens up for new sounds. To me, very few must-have devices actually exist in the world of pedals, but the Expression Ramper is 100% one of them...at least if you enjoy messing around with expression. And the LAG control on Dark Star Stereo just reacted so incredibly smooth that I instantly thought that it would sound amazing when controlled by Expression Ramper, and luckily my theory proved to be right 😊 I'm stoked to hear that the combo gave you some new inspiration 🤩
Do you play in standard tuning? Your playing is the highlight of these videos man, I look forward to hearing what you cook up more than I do hearing the actual pedals (which are always great sounding, as well)
Honestly can’t remember the last time I played in standard tuning. Don’t even know if I would be able to navigate in standard anymore 😊 So no, I’m always in an open tuning of sorts. Recently I’ve been playing a lot in DADGAD, and this entire demo is exactly in that tuning. I’m deeply honored to hear you enjoy the playing. Means a lot ❤️

Wonderful review, as always! Does the Volume knob adjust the volume of the reverb trail or the dry signal too? I have a V2 Dark Star and my 2 gripes with it is that the reverb gets loud and there's no way to reduce the pre-delay. Hopefully the new version resolves that! 🙏
4:50 It seems the bitcrush effect doesn't transition as smoothly when turning the knob slowly, compared the the V2. I hope that in a future firmware update we have the option of a smooth gradual change to bitcrush level, if possible. Otherwise I love this pedal and will not make the mistake of selling it like my V2!!
Can you make another video showcasing how to use the mini expression with the dark star? Looks cool. But I don’t know how to assign the pots to the expression pedal.

This built-in distortion...Im sold. I knew it was good to hold on of buying v2 but this one seems to be way more than I expected.
The built-in saturation is so cool! Can go from subtle lo-fi grit to full blown-out shoegaze machine. It's so cool! They jammed so many cool new features in there but without making it overwhelming in any way. In my book they solved the upgraded Dark Star conundrum to perfection

Aside from the large form factor, this is a perfect pedal! I have the V2 and will definitely be getting this one. It should be mentioned that the V3 has moved on from the FV-1 digital chip, so it should have even higher audio quality (on top of stereo and all the other features). This is a gamechanger for OBNE!
It's honestly not a very big enclosure. It's a bit smaller than 1 ½ original Dark Star. And since it has top mounted jacks, it actually takes up a bit less space on your board than a normal Dark Star with side jacks would . And yes, the audio quality is indeed on a completely different level compared to the original. This pedal is a pure home run 😍🤩

Good to see You again Stefan :D I have desire for Dark Star since 2021 when my pedalboard journey began. Especially when I saw what weird soundscapes it can create with EQD Transmisser ;) I was eyeing for it, but after I got myself more into synths world, practicality won over desire as monophonic pedals with stereo synths were too much of a downgrade for me. But now I think there are no more excuses XD Cheers !

Expression Ramper always opens up for new sounds. To me, very few must-have devices actually exist in the world of pedals, but the Expression Ramper is 100% one of them...at least if you enjoy messing around with expression. And the LAG control on Dark Star Stereo just reacted so incredibly smooth that I instantly thought that it would sound amazing when controlled by Expression Ramper, and luckily my theory proved to be right 😊 I'm stoked to hear that the combo gave you some new inspiration 🤩

Honestly can’t remember the last time I played in standard tuning. Don’t even know if I would be able to navigate in standard anymore 😊 So no, I’m always in an open tuning of sorts. Recently I’ve been playing a lot in DADGAD, and this entire demo is exactly in that tuning. I’m deeply honored to hear you enjoy the playing. Means a lot ❤️

I have a V2 Dark Star and my 2 gripes with it is that the reverb gets loud and there's no way to reduce the pre-delay. Hopefully the new version resolves that! 🙏

4:50 It seems the bitcrush effect doesn't transition as smoothly when turning the knob slowly, compared the the V2.
I hope that in a future firmware update we have the option of a smooth gradual change to bitcrush level, if possible.
Otherwise I love this pedal and will not make the mistake of selling it like my V2!!

All of the info regarding expression with Dark Star Stereo can be found in its official manual. OBNE also made an in-depth video on it in their Dan Explains it All format. So I’m sure you can find all the info you need there 😊👍
