    You have answered questions I have been searching for all over. Every tutorial is about changing colors or hue and saturation haphazardly eyeballing the colors. I wanted to put in specific colors like rgb, ral or Ncs, for example. I thank you sincerely for your clear and matter of fact teaching method. Had enough of teachers over hiped and over caffinated. Its mostly about themselfs I think. Very distracting. You are a godsend:)

    Great tutorial. I'm having some trouble with my colors though... For example, I'm trying to apply a dark brown to some paneling, but when I select the color blend, it turns into a very light beige color. With other colors, they seem to turn more neon. I've tried in both RBG & LAB mode with the same result. How do I keep the colors more true? I'm using photoshop C3

    • @HelenBradley
      @HelenBradley  9 лет назад +5

      +gloomygoods Ok, here is a way to get some dark colors. You will still need your color fill layer in Color blend mode. Then add a second color fill layer (duplicate the previous one) and blend it using Multiply blend mode. You may need to change the color slightly on this layer (double click its thumbnail to choose a different color) to give you the right finishing color and you may need to decrease the layer opacity. Let me know how you go.

    Hi Helen, thanks for the great tutorial. I'm having trouble changing the color of my house to white. It is currently a light tan/beige color and I'm trying to change the color to white but when I fill the top layer white with the paint bucket, it just goes back to the original color. I can change it to any other color, but white isn't working for me.
    I appreciate any advice!

    • @HelenBradley

      +Denny Moody Hi Denny. Great question! Make your selection of the house color and use the Hue/Saturation adjustment on it to desaturate it - take the Saturation to -100. Now adjust the Lightness to brighten it a bit. That should make it "white". Let me know how you go?

    Great video! I have been trying to significantly change our house color and this is the perfect way to do it. I was even motivated to create a separate mask to make the trim a different color and I imported the Sherwin Williams numbered colors. There is one problem I don't know how to solve. When I apply the color blend mode, the color hue seems to change. Not a great deal, but enough to negate some of the usefulness of the tool. I would like to just get the weather board shading. The colors in this video don't seem to be affected like mine. Any ideas would be helpful!

    Helen, I've learned so much from your video. How can I change an image of my yellow house to exactly match swatch colors from a paint company that I imported into Ps? I followed both your gray and white house examples, but color-blend mode appears to shift the house color off from the swatch. The adjustment layer doesn't seem to help here because I need to accurately match the swatch.

    Hi Helen, I was trying to color dark interior wood white. Everything worked just fine until the step where you change the layer type to "color." Instead of turning white it appeared black. Is there a way to fix this? I also tried using black for my layer mask in the hopes that it would turn white instead but that turned black as well.

    Any application for Android?
    This video was verry helpful.... Thank you so much...

      Hi there! I’m not aware of any Android apps as I don’t have any Android devices. Whatever you choose will need to have masks and adjustments in it. But I’m sure if you look around you’ll find something. Perhaps try Googling for Photoshop alternatives for Android and see what you turn up. Best of luck!

    hello, can i switch the color of the house to white? my house has blue parts and i want to see how it looks if i put it on white, but i dont know why when i choose the white color it looks grey...

    • @HelenBradley
      @HelenBradley  6 лет назад

      Good question. Have you thought about adding a curves adjustment layer over the top of the fix to lighten the gray. He would need to drag up on the curve to lighten the pixels. Let me know if this works.

    How can I re edit a mask? I mean I have created a mask but I want to add more area to be selected.

    • @HelenBradley
      @HelenBradley  6 лет назад

      Good question. View the Layers palette, locate the mask which is to the right of the layer which contains the actual image. Click on the mask so it is targeted, it should have a little border around it. Now go back to your image and paint on it with black to remove an area from your selection or white to add to add it. Let me know if you need more help?

    Got to the last part where you click on the hue-saturation then adjust the color siding but my entire screen is adjusting, will not isolate the siding. I have CS 5, any idea what I am doing wrong ???

    • @HelenBradley
      @HelenBradley  6 лет назад

      You need to use a clipping mask - you have to limit the color change to the selected area only. Look at the video at the 12 minute mark for the clipping mask.

    how do you make the shades of color darker?

    • @HelenBradley
      @HelenBradley  5 лет назад

      Chris, the tints and shades should be as dark as they need to be by this process. I guess you could add a Curves layer over the top of everything and adjust the darker tones to suit. It might work to help darken things up.

    Color is not working for me at all... any color i choose for the top layer does not match the actual color im choosing at all. Im choosing my white house to go a dark brown or black and the color is changing to a light blue. It makes no sense.

    • @HelenBradley
      @HelenBradley  Год назад

      Instead of Hue Saturation try adding a solid fill color layer using Layer - New Fill Layer - Solid Color and set it to the color to use. Clip it to the layer below by selecting it and choose Layer > Create Clipping Mask and then set the Solid Color Fill layer blend mode to Linear Light. I got my white house to a gorgeous dark brown this way.

    This tutorial works for exotic colors, but using color mode to blend shades of grey, does nothing. Great tutorial otherwise, but it would have been nice to see how to handle this issue.

      This is a good question. If I get a chance at any stage to look at it, I will.
