Time Stamps: 01:15 What to do if you overshoot you bulk? 18:42 Shorter masses and more frequent mini cuts, successful? 28:50 How frequent do we need maintenance phases?
He's totally correct about sex drive dropping under 30g of fat per day. I'v been high carb for a very long time and notice that 40 grams of fat and the flag pole is up saluting every morning while under 30g's nope.
Didn't you recommend maintenance phases/lower volume blocks every 2-3 months in the past? Im kinda confused since Mike said he took the last one after 6 months of high volume training
revivestronger.com/2017/01/19/primer-phase-practical-application "After Mesocycle 3 you’ve really used all your tools in your hypertrophy training tool bag to keep accumulating and overloading training volume. It’s very clear now that increases in training volume are key to growing lots of muscle, therefore once you get to this point you reduce your volume via a primer phase."
..and I can easily clarify ;) Mike talked about it in London the recorderings you can find on RP+. A small plug; GO sign up for RP+ (LInk in discription) But basically because of special supplements he can and does run a different paradigm sometimes. Also he has talked about a newly innovated system of his, in which there are different nutritional approaches that then dictates the mesocycles and annual planning On another note, opinions and views can and does change over time. If that wouldn't be the case, then it's time to worry and not the other way around
Excellent podcast. Thanks for posting these. Pretty sure I've watched every single one with Mike Israetel. Where can we ask questions for these Q & A's?
Awesome stuff covered here, really enjoyed it. Question steve, when minicutting, what rep ranges do you prefer to use if any? Maybe some high intensity at MEV to break up the monotomy, instead of banging out another 6-10 or 8-12 meso. Cheers
Hey Steve! I was wondering if you should increase your weight on the bar week by week during primer phase? In order to improve your strength while you're doing high intensity. Or should you just keep the same Weight during the whole phase? Great podcast btw, keep it up!
Love your content, Keep it up! Quick question, ive gotten quite confused watching your and Mikes videos and reading your website about deload and progressive overload... when doing a deload lets say after 4 weeks, do you start the new mesocycle with MEV or do you pickup where you ended before the deload, doing progressive overload for another 3 weeks?
how does this shorter mass, and more frequent mini cut paradigm fit in with what mike said in the bulking debate, that bulking phases shouldn't be shorter than 2 months because building muscle is a complex process that takes weeks, ,,its not like piling on a sand pile" as Mike would say.
my last diet was low carb moderate fats and it was so bloody difficult in comparison to high carb low fat that i'm running now, i swear I feel better than pre-diet, which is so strange to me.
Speaking of how hard massing can be with eating super high volumes of food and carbs; why not eat lots of sugars, which would be a lot easier? If calories/macros is what matters the most. A couple litres of fruit juice is way easier than the equivalent in rice or pasta.
Revive Stronger Thanks, Steve. I'm just a bit confused as to, say, why Mike and others go through these huge intimidating-looking meals of rice/pasta etc - wouldn't it be easier to get the carbs in as sugars? Is it to do with digestion, or fiber? Maybe it would be an interesting topic to touch on in a podcast - carb sources and considerations thereof. Thanks for all the content btw !
I think it sounds more severe than it is. For some it's harder to get food down than for others. For example, I know that Mike is currently eating a bowl of cereals every single morning with 200g of carbs. Also, it's absolutely fine to make food more palatable when you have a hard time getting your calories in. Still, I'd stay in the range of 80/20 of healthy/sweets due to micronutrients/vitamins and all
dietary fats are definitely needed for testosterone production. cholesterol is the building block for those hormones and your body needs fats to produce the needed cholesterol.
John Greco definately not, however hypercalorically you can get away with lower fats for sure, but generally speaking if using exogenous hormones you really only need some EFA'S for health purposes, hormones are unnafected since you are not making them endogenously

No one can generate analogies faster than Mike Israetel
And they are always golden!
The two dog analogy in the beginning was a quintessential Mike analogy lmao
Very happy to hear him so optimistic about the natural limit, it’s good to hear
"Special sports supplements" ^^ Love that phrasing.
What does he mean by that?
Han snakker kun om kreatin...vel ;P
Coin that shit.
Is it illegal for Mike just to talk about steroids instead of code language?
Revive Stronger how many times should we mass then mini cut before maintenance?
Yessssss. We need more Mike and Broderick. Keep these awesome Q&A's coming. No better content on YT.
As long as you're asking questions, we will deliver the episodes ;)
I always find myself nodding throughout these talks with Mike. Love it.
Mate, I'm the same and always discovering new things when listening to it over
Another Steve and Mike episode... hell yes!
As always, thanks Miguel :)
Went to the gym and the Red Bull free drink girls were there, came home and Steve uploaded a Mike podcast. This is the weekend that keeps giving!
Next time, you make sure to get those girls home so that they listen to the podcast and do something out of their life
Revive Stronger LOL will do! Steve you should have Jared Feather on sometime solo.
Totally a late ass reply, but catching up on all the episodes. Love when you have Mike on the show. His passion is infectious!
Mate, enjoy all of the episodes to come!
- Pascal

Happy to hear you enjoyed it!

Same for me!
Wow this was great! Thank you guys!
33:44 - I feel overall warm and cozy around the ears whenever I eat manioc after low carb periods
Lol. Loving this russian dude
Good food for thought!
If this is food then you're in a massive bulk ;P
Didn't you recommend maintenance phases/lower volume blocks every 2-3 months in the past? Im kinda confused since Mike said he took the last one after 6 months of high volume training
Where did he say otherwise? I'm curious because his opinions on various matters are changing.

Interested in clarification here too.

Revive Stronger what's your view Steve would you still recommend a maintenance phase after 3 mesocycles?
Absolutely awesome!
:*
This stuff is gold!!!
You ask, we deliver! ;)
Strong solid insights and very entertaining😍😍
Happy to hear that you liked it

Nice fresh cut Steve, love the vids.
Fresh and fresh. ;)
Awesome thanks Steve
Tessa, as always, thanks :)

Great video! You mentioned on your diet your vegetable/fiber intake was getting too high. I’m wondering what the issue is with this?
Thanks Shannon!
Most likely digestive issues but also, too much fibre is actually hindering some mineral uptake as well.
Awesome stuff covered here, really enjoyed it.

Maybe some high intensity at MEV to break up the monotomy, instead of banging out another 6-10 or 8-12 meso.

Whatever works best for you. If that keeps you pushing harder and makes it more motivating, nothing wrong with that :)

You got it, increase the weight :)
- Pascal
Great stuff
Cheers Casey!
I’m massing right now and @30-32mins is hilarious. “Food stares you down” 😂😂😂 so true
xD Thanks for watching!

You're always pulling back. Starting where you left off is unrealistic over time
- Coach Pascal
Who the f**k would dislike this podcast?
There's always a dislike. Sometimes I wonder why as well
Stupid question but if you want 400g of carbs from rice only, does that mean you have to eat like 1,400g/9 cups of white rice per day?
Could be, yes. I don't have a calculator with me :)
Revive Stronger
That’s a lot of rice. Though, I’m sure you could get there faster with something like kid’s breakfast cereal.
Mikaelos Jerusalemetel: The biggest Colemanrider from outerspace.
What are the prons and cons for 2% minicut for 4 weeks VS 1% for 6 weeks? Like how do you know which percentage to choose and the length of the cut?
Needs analysis. Also, skillset of dieting comes into play as well. If you're not an experienced dieter, 2% can be unrealistic.

"Thanks, carbs." - Dr. Mike, 2017
Lol

Oh shit, I forgot my post workout comment yesterday. Now I lost all my gains.
Aaaaall of them lost

Glutes...okay...back
“Special Sports Supplements” 😉
;)
dietary fats are definitely needed for testosterone production. cholesterol is the building block for those hormones and your body needs fats to produce the needed cholesterol.
ok
Exogenous hormone use kinda trumps the need for that...or 'special sport supplements' as Mike prefers to call them
Absolutely right but it's like Corinne pointed out already.
So would that mean that the extremely low fat high carb diet that Mike uses might not be as great for natural lifters?
John Greco definately not, however hypercalorically you can get away with lower fats for sure, but generally speaking if using exogenous hormones you really only need some EFA'S for health purposes, hormones are unnafected since you are not making them endogenously
How old is Mike?
At least 132 years.
A little over 30 if I'm not mistaken
💪💪❤️❤️‼️
Thank you!
- Coach Jess
give me mooore
Mike has me thinking about girls that like bad boys...
Hahahaha, fantastic!
"Special sports supplements"??? Is he admitting to steroids?
Is Mike really claiming natty?!?!?!!? Whattttttttttt?
He's most natty of them all
15% body fat is still pretty low…
It can be. Highly individual
Yo I’m not liking this
Cool ;)
