Congratulations on the work you; I am an admirer of the care and care that makes British homes so beautiful. My respect and admiration from a friend from Brazil.
They said it was temporary, but yes should make sure same height like stairs.....also if this was permanent,I'm sure it would have been built centre to the doorway😂😂😂
Presumably they also cemented in the telephone cable to avoid damaging it when they remove the temporary off centre step with a more robust and centred permanent construction.
Great work, I would add though they are gonna pop loose. The open centers will allow a bounce in the tread. And the brick will freeze before the tread stone. Next time fill the cavities and get a perfect smooth layer then set the tread in fortified mastic. That will stay for 100 years.
God wish I had a trade instead of getting a degree. Wish they'd ran trade courses at my Uni. I would have done Anthropology and bricklaying. I'd charge 5000 quid for laying a few bricks in the morning and then read about Inuit women at night.
I'm a self employed builder with a degree in computer science. My business partner is a bricklayer with a degree in maths. Two carpenters one with a degree in music, one with a degree in music tech. It's never too late to see the light.
I need to install a step like this at the back on my house on the extension so thought I would watch your video for guidance. I’ve got no problems doing this but my concern is the damp proofing. Doing this will surely bridge the damp proof or am I being over cautious?
Another great job done Stu , If that's a temporary job , most people would be well happy if it was a permanent fixture, great to see KC doing his usual touches ,take care boys , and nice choccky bikkies, not cheap crap 🤣🤣👍👍
I love these little videos stu. It's interesting seeing things like steps being put in. Theirs lots of Brickie videos at the minute laying course on course on course. Would love to see more of these if you get the chance 👍
This is a great video, I am doing something similar with my front step that is a little bigger, with bluestone slab toppers. What would you fill the middle of the step up with if you wanted that to be more permanent?
One thing I've always noticed about your videos is how perfect you get the mortar mix, the consistency is absolutely spot on every time, almost like cake icing!
How do you know how deep the concrete base needs to be??? I've got to cut into tarmac (to create a neat edge) to put a concrete base in, to build my steps on top of.
How do you make sure that the floor becomes smooth after plastering? It’s an outside floor. Cement comes off when we sweep. It cause people to have sinuses. Plastered about three days ago. Should we pour water on the floor. It’s an outside floor.
my dad wouldn't allow me to lay it like that, he'd make me fill up the entire inside with more bricks and especially across the back, there's nothing back there.
is there any risk to the steps being hollow? I was expecting you to fill the void with something? I know nothing about construction but was just wondering 🤷🏼♂️
I dont know what it is but people spend all there time at their keyboards, but to me there is nothing more satisfying then physical work, digging in getting things done learning. step by step, and at the end saying I did that, that's my job... Now let's get someone in that actually knows what there doing, because that is embarrassing, and if someone sees that from the pub I'll never live it down...
Hold the shovel further down lads, and try the chopping action your dad was doing to loosen that bed! I’m a groundworker but love your videos mate been watching a while now
It's like looking in a mirror! I'd do exactly the same. Worth noting for beginners that you need to know the size of the slabs you're going to use to work out the lip when setting out the brickwork.
It’s not square with the door, it’s a mile to the right can’t just lift out 2 slabs and say il put it there. Should have cut the slab to the left and put the joint between the slabs in the middle of the door, could have used the existing bullnose step to square of from,
What would be your Labour cost for a job like this? Just a ball park figure please. I’m looking to get someone local in to do the same type of step for me
me and my 7 year old son love the vids mate keep up the nice work bro and would you mind shouting my boy out in a vid please as he just got out of hospital and his names logan m he would really appreciate it as would i
Sorry mate, but that step isnt square with the existing step. It overlaps on the right by about 3-4 inches. It needed to go left about 1 1/2 - 2". That would bug me everytime i stepped over it. Rest of it is okay though.
I'd have ducted it too, just in case. Plastic pipe cut along its length and slipped over or some square conduit. Remove all the cable fixings too that are covered. Maybe also a dpc where the bricks touch the house wall?
Congratulations on the work you; I am an admirer of the care and care that makes British homes so beautiful. My respect and admiration from a friend from Brazil.
Extra brick support in the middle of each pave wouldn’t hurt

Good man stu, I think these films are much better for the beginner, teaching is more your game. Good to see you back.
Keep well
I started doing one of these round the back of my house, got a bit carried away... Ended up doing a 2 story double extension
😂
As Father Jack Hackett would say, "I love BRICK!" I can't imagine how you could tidy it up...it's perfect now😍
Ahhhh feckin brickkk
Love watching you and your dad on these small jobs 😊
Great work, I would add though they are gonna pop loose. The open centers will allow a bounce in the tread. And the brick will freeze before the tread stone. Next time fill the cavities and get a perfect smooth layer then set the tread in fortified mastic. That will stay for 100 years.
In fairness though he did say it was only a temporary job and that he would come back to do a pattern similar to the semi circular step.
@@annfernakerpan6654 Why not do the correct job from the beginning. Why waste the time and money
When I was an apprentice brick layer I was taught not to tap on the level but to tap brick. Once you tap on an aluminum level it’s no longer accurate.
God wish I had a trade instead of getting a degree. Wish they'd ran trade courses at my Uni. I would have done Anthropology and bricklaying. I'd charge 5000 quid for laying a few bricks in the morning and then read about Inuit women at night.

My man!
Preach 🙏🏻👍🏻
I agree
Why not?
I've been working in a factory today and reading Solzynitsin tonight!

Another fantastic video stu well done and keep up the great work and glad u and KC are fine. Hope u enjoy your weekend 😁👍🏻😁👍🏻😁👍🏻😁👍🏻😁👍🏻😁👍🏻😁👍🏻😁👍🏻😁👍🏻
Why bury that cable that was running along the wall? Wouldn’t it have been better to reroute it, in case access is needed to it in the future?
Yes. The customer seen it. They knew to call before having stairs installed.
My favorite bricky is back with another great video. Lovely jobly Stu. Say hello to K.C too. Godspeed mate 👍 👍.
Cheers mate
That concrete is smooth!!! 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Agreed. I was thinking the same exact thing.
'Buttery' is the word! Put it on your toast! 🤣
Its neither, its mortar. @wasntme7845
Not concrete

Completely agree. Love this type👍
Seems like a great team, guiding each other and pride in their work. Wouldn't be bothered about the cable.
This is a great video, I am doing something similar with my front step that is a little bigger, with bluestone slab toppers. What would you fill the middle of the step up with if you wanted that to be more permanent?
fill it up with concrete blocks or even type 1 👍
First time here, loved it very therapeutic to watch.
Great job stu
Top notch as always!

Brown 👅
So you wanna join his only fans? What a simp
A great step by step guide. Thank you
Step lol
You went above the damp course on the external cavity. Capillary attraction
Cracking job as always Stu
Chocky biscuits and a brew. Lovey stuff.
Nice video... I think the little jobs are good for us beginners to see.
Great video as ever! What cement/ concrete are you using so you can lay brick on it nearly straight away?
Rapid cement from B&Q👍
Thank you sir👍
I did one of these for a customer but I set it an inch away from the wall so I did not breech the DPM.
Same thoughts here about the DPM being bridged.
Could run some dpm up the connection side to the house.
Steps below damp anyway
Sound temporary job stu to help the lady out.
I did the same with mine, looks fine and enough space behind to clear weeds
Love those gloves. They are my go to
Another step in the right direction stu👍😉👍. Can't beat British workmanship
That's how you use a shovel young man respect 🙏
Top job as always Stu
Hi Stu, please can you what motar you use? Which make of tools you recommend?
Is there any way i could build the step on top of existing patio slabs. I was thinking of ensuring the slabs were secure and using wall ties etc.
Stu your a perfectionist and your standards are high. Brilliant work
The thing isn't in the middle and protrudes out too much
Awesome work there with that step Stu! Keep up the great work as always! 👌😁👍👷♂️🧱
Great Job boys well done 🍻
Did my house step off back of this video baring in mind I’m only a roofer I’m damn pleased with outcome going for a small brick wall next
Good teacher. Well played. Decent job.
How do you know how deep the concrete base needs to be??? I've got to cut into tarmac (to create a neat edge) to put a concrete base in, to build my steps on top of.
This was strangely mesmerising
Another quality installation chaps, fancy doing my stu. I'll pay you in wigan pies and bacon butties. Top stuff 👏
Love your videos Stu.Best wishes to you and KC.
What’s your mix ratio there guys?
hi did you use cement for the foundation or concrete ? sorry for the stupid question
It said in a previous answer B&Q Rapid something 😊
Would you recommend doing brick work with concrete mix and not a stucco and/or mortar mix?
No muck should be softer than the brick
Whats the muck mix please....and any additives....cheers
Nice step, but is it off centre from the door, I'm just asking as it looks that way on the video.
How do you make sure that the floor becomes smooth after plastering? It’s an outside floor. Cement comes off when we sweep. It cause people to have sinuses. Plastered about three days ago. Should we pour water on the floor. It’s an outside floor.
Great job and helping a lady out to good on you.
Is the overhang going to snap off if you step wrong?
my dad wouldn't allow me to lay it like that, he'd make me fill up the entire inside with more bricks and especially across the back, there's nothing back there.
He mentioned it was temporary untl they could come back and do a nice step design like what is at 06:00 mins
All that skill but he still needed that supervisor, haha
What the frost line in your area? Brick work with no footer?
I see Dave Spikey has given up his day job as a comedian and is exploring other avenues. Go on Dave!
Are you a comedian in your spare time willy
what is the ratio of sand to cement to best use please?
Another top job well done lads when you coming to do mine 👍🏻😉😂
is there any risk to the steps being hollow? I was expecting you to fill the void with something? I know nothing about construction but was just wondering 🤷🏼♂️
I think this was just a temporary job
Housing for insects.
Do you make knives?
And do you make swords?
Julio
Where's all the window and door fitting videos with KC. Enjoyed them
Good Job Man 👍🏽
Fathers make the best back seat drivers
Will the step cause damp any it's high to the dpc
It looks like a minor job this, but it'll make all the difference in the world for the owner.
Sometimes I don’t understand why i can watch this from start till the end.
I thought you'd have set up your profiles for that job Stu ???? 🤣🏴
Guys, you are seriously taking the piss!!
Great work as always stu
Spot on job that stu keep up the good work
With neighbours like Stu and KC you know come what may they will do their best to help you out of bother 👏 Well done guy's.
GREAT JOB ❤❤

Lovely job.

Lovely job!
Great stuff.

Lol maybe they wanted room for the bin😂
Just another negative nancy.
Subscribed nice work skilled 👌👍
How did you round the corners of the slabs? Really inspirational video for a part timer Jack of all trades like me!
With a handheld grinder.
Hiya stu hope you and KC are ok 👍
Sorry for asking again but not seen

He was doing so well 🤔👍👍

Half decent job but you shouldn't have that void under the slabs should be a full bed...
thumbs up from Lake George, NY * was that concrete or mortar that you used ?
Thats mortar he used for the base and to lay the brick.
It was concrete👍
Nice job
You covered the cable running along the wall.
I know we did Bill what would you want us to do with the wire?
Say what you see Bill
@@seniorgolfprogress83the cable should have been run through a housing, of course.

Off topic; Can anyone tell me how to layer bricks above ground level to prevent erosion overtime due to rain and other weather related conditions?😮
Omg imagine not taking that cable away first it might be needed! The step isn't centred with the door.
I’d be happy with that even as a permanent step
Very smooooooth
Thanks
Love is best.
Seen some RUclips house builds with smaller footings.
You made pockets to hold water causing foundation problems.
Didnt see a square being used once lol
