MK6 VW GTI | Code P2187 System Too Lean At Idle Speed Fix

P2187 - System too lean at idle speed.

At first I checked the common culprits like the PCV valve and the Mass Airflow Sensor, but it turned out to be something different.

The P2187 code indicates that there's an issue with the air-fuel mixture ratio.

Im having the same code pop up on my vw gti mk7 except it says bank 1, not on idle.... I just purchased this car a few months ago and I've actually had this issue since the 1st month but i barely drove this car because i also got a flat in December and waited till recently to address the flat and this code. I also have a misfire on the 4th spark plug which i addressed last week, as well as the tire but figured i should address this lean code before i take it out for a drive...

Okay now that I'm looking at the code again it does say at idle hahaa, my mistake. 😅 I've never worked on this cars so wasnt sure exactly what to check but i have some ideas now. Thanks!

Yeah, I'll admit the issue that caused the P2187 code on mine is probably different than most other people because it had to do with the aftermarket air intake that I have. But before I discovered that leak in the intake coupler, one thing that I was actually pretty convinced was the cause of it was the mass airflow sensor being either dirty or faulty. That's a possibility you could investigate.
