clarification/correction about deoxys: it's viability wasn't really low because it's bad, moreso that it's too good for OU by a lot but is worse than the other deoxys forms (mostly deoxys attack). because of this it never saw real viability, Deoxys inhabited a zone where it could never get real usage.
Essentially the gen 9 Lugia experience where being able to change its type with that bulk keeps it from getting serious consideration for an OU test but being pretty much unviable because it just kinda sucks in Ubers UU and Ubers Hope we can free Lugia next gen when tera is gone
It really needs a signature move or something! Ultimately its closest to Deoxys-Attack in stat distribution, but it only gets minimal additions to its defense to make up for the smaller attack stat. Even if you wanted the extra bulk, Deoxys isn't surviving anything that Deoxys Attack wouldn't, making it useless to bring along. For years Phione was a worse Manaphy, but now it has Take Heart and miraculously has a whole identity of its own Also omg can you imagine being a kid with Deoxys and having a friend who has Deoxys Attack and you just have no idea why your friend's Deoxys is better than yours in every way
Eternamax deoxys, 255 in all base stats, locked behind a 100$ pay wall, the only mon that can break through it it's mega-eternal Rayquaza XY, who only can be captured after buying the two games + DLC and using an event code.
I absolute adore any case where an awful pokemon has a viable niche in higher tiers just because it's a weirdly effective check to a huge meta pick that defines that tier, best examples are from gen 4 Ubers. Parasect: Has dry skin, so can switch into choiced kyogre's water moves and wall/threaten spore. Shedinja: 1 hp and dies from any super effective hit or any kind of passive damage, yet it walls kyogre like a champion. Ariados: Probably the worst early bug type ever, yet can put Darkrai into uncomfortable 50/50 (Let's be real, there is never a real reason for Darkrai to take the risk) and 1 vs 1 Deoxys speed, two of the most meta defining mons in ubers. Recent discovery, Probopass has never seen any competitive viability in the high tiers, but with the recent addition of body press along magnet pull it becomes a huge kingambit counter, a mon that is on every team in this generation.
Haven't played ou in a whole but doesn't kingambit usually run a fighting attack? This means u need to Tera ur dude to give him a chance to beat gambit, and since bro is so popular that means ur tera's already decided most games which kinda blows

Deo-N is less of a mishmash of the different Deo forms and more of a "Deo-A-Lite" and that right there is the fundamental flaw of Deo-N. It actually has worse defenses than Deo-S, who ironically has arguably the most well-rounded stats of all the Deo forms (Deo-D also makes an argument for this title). The difference between Deo-A's 50/20/20 defenses and Deo-N's 50/50/50 defenses is so minute in the context of ubers that it borders on parody, and given they share the same speed stat there really was very little Deo-N could even theoretically attempt doing that wasn't done as well or better than Deo-A. However, as it turns out Deo-A-Lite is still in the upper echelons of Pokemon strength, as Deo-A is simply one of the strongest mons in the entire series and being a nerfed version of that is still pretty darn good. As proof, for a brief moment in early gen 6, Deo-N along with a bunch of other ubers such as Blazekin were dropped into OU only to be quick banned a short time later (we're talking maybe a week or two, tops). Pretty much any time Deo-N is allowed to exist in a separate tier from Deo-A, it will then proceed to immediately fill the same role Deo-A would have (which in Gen 6 meant breaking OU in half with its noodly appendages).
I’d argue that base deoxys wasn’t outshined as a mix of all three, but rather was only outshined by attack form. Base deoxys is just a slightly weaker attack deoxys that still dies to any single hit in the game except maybe a non stab Mach punch.
Bug type mat block with prioirity. New bug type weather that doubles the speed of bug types and halves all rock type damage. New 80bp bug type fake-out. Damp gets buffed to add water to the users defensive typing. Kanto/Jhoto remake where all the neglected pokemon get new, more optimized stat spreads and higher BSTs. (like Flareon, Parasect, and Ledian)
btw if anyone can find an instance of these mons being good in high tiers anywhere else let me know! The closest i could find is deoxys being a usable mon in DPP Ubers as a lead but it was still really bad.
wasn't parasect used in gen4 ubers due to countering kyogre like nothing could ? And deoxys normal had a very small niche over deoxys atk in gen 7 ubers being that with enough invest and a ghost resist berry, he could revenge kill marshadow while remaining quite threatening overall

I think Regice fits this category. It is UUBL with a decent amount of OU play in Gen 3, then falls off a cliff with Gen 4 introducing special moves for all of it's weaknesses as well as Stealth Rock and remains in the bottom tiers for the rest of it's existence.
My favorite is Pyroar was good for like two weeks in VGC 2014, got 2nd, 16th, then second again at UK and German nationals, and then no one ever used it again ever.

For example it had really good defensive synergy with lucario. Also it had moxie and entrainment and is slightly faster than garchomp so it could give it moxie before it attacked. Really niche, context dependent value, but hey, value.

I can’t find any evidence of Rivalry shenanigans being used but theoretically you could do something gen 5 haxorus did to take advantage of gender locked Pokémon like the genies.

I feel that the reason Deoxys Normal is trash wasn't properly explained. It doesn't have a "jack of all trades, master of none" situation going, it's very definitively a master of offense, and it's damn good at it. With a 50/150/50/150/50/150 stat spread, it's hard not to be. However, Deoxys Attack has a 50/180/20/180/20/150 stat spread, meaning Deoxys Normal is strictly outclassed. They both die to pretty much everything, but Deoxys Attack deals more damage.

Fletchinder's 71 attack seems ridiculous until you remember Talonflame only has 83 attack. It's really only its speed that increases that much upon evolution from 84 to 126. And of course, its speed barely mattered with Gale wings
Talonflame had it's (gale) wings clipped. IT was cool when it lasted. A route 1 bird that had it's viability/niche. Hopefully gale wings will be reverted, but I highly doubt it.

I’m actually a fan of Dewgong and found it awesome when it was tearing up ladder with Gloom. Gen 9 has been kind to a lot of my favorites surprisingly.

Deoxys Normal should have had properly averaged stats compared to the other specialized forms. Apart from the shared 50 HP, it could have had 110s across the board to make it less offensively focused than Deoxys Attack, but not nearly as frail. This would also make it stronger _and_ more defensive than Deoxys Speed, obviously losing out on the Speed in return. 110 Speed, 110 attacks, and 110 defenses would still make it very viable in most metas, and would let it fulfil the role of a setup sweeper better than all other forms. As it is now, it's just diet Deoxys Attack. Yeah, it has 30 more defenses, but when your defensive spread is still 50/50/50 that hardly matters in a meta where everyone is throwing around 100+ bp attacks off of 120+ base offenses. I feel like it's a similar case to Mespirit compared to the rest of the Lake Trio. Despite it being the "mid-ground" between the offensive sweeper Azelf and the defensive wall Uxie, it is _slower_ than Uxie and has 80 base HP compared to the other members' 75 base HP stats. Same case there: equalize its HP stat with the other members of the trio, and give it 101 across the board. It loses out on a _bit_ of offensive and defensive power, but makes it over the 100 base Speed wall by a single point. Would it have seen use at all with those stats anyways? Probably back in Gen 4 or 5, but maybe now it's too late to change it.
Like someone else in the comments said Deoxys is mainly a worse version of Deoxys-Attack, it would probably have seen more useable and set apart from Attack form if it had base 100s accross the boards probably would have been OU in like gen 5/6 and then gradually dropped off from there even if Psycho Boost would be a menace to society.

This would also make it stronger _and_ more defensive than Deoxys Speed, obviously losing out on the Speed in return. 110 Speed, 110 attacks, and 110 defenses would still make it very viable in most metas, and would let it fulfil the role of a setup sweeper better than all other forms. As it is now, it's just diet Deoxys Attack. Yeah, it has 30 more defenses, but when your defensive spread is still 50/50/50 that hardly matters in a meta where everyone is throwing around 100+ bp attacks off of 120+ base offenses.
I feel like it's a similar case to Mespirit compared to the rest of the Lake Trio. Despite it being the "mid-ground" between the offensive sweeper Azelf and the defensive wall Uxie, it is _slower_ than Uxie and has 80 base HP compared to the other members' 75 base HP stats. Same case there: equalize its HP stat with the other members of the trio, and give it 101 across the board. It loses out on a _bit_ of offensive and defensive power, but makes it over the 100 base Speed wall by a single point. Would it have seen use at all with those stats anyways? Probably back in Gen 4 or 5, but maybe now it's too late to change it.
Like someone else in the comments said Deoxys is mainly a worse version of Deoxys-Attack, it would probably have seen more useable and set apart from Attack form if it had base 100s accross the boards probably would have been OU in like gen 5/6 and then gradually dropped off from there even if Psycho Boost would be a menace to society.
Boy do I miss Gen 6 Talonflame :(. Gen 6 was my first competitive gen and the Talonflame Greninja core was crazy fun.
