My father used to quote Edmund Burke “THE ONLY THING NECESSARY FOR THE TRIUMPH OF EVIL IS THAT GOOD MEN DO NOTHING”. My mother always said “Don’t ASK people if they need help. Just help them.”
Speaking of Karma, this came back when she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. If it snowed, a neighbor would shovel our walk, even though my dad could have done it. People would drop off food, etc even though we could have cooked. Just relieving us of some of these simple chores and decisions meant so much ❤️f

You've inspired me to write my own "Things i learned from my mother" . 'She's been gone 7 years now. My favorite saying of her's is "Enjoy the simple things". Whether it be the perfumed fragrance of her roses, the delight in a passing butterfly, the cheerful singing of the birds, a colorful rainbow, spectacular sunsets, a full moon reflecting on the river, sitting around the campfire with family and friends, or relaxing in her garden with a cup of coffee. These were some of her simple pleasures.

After about 10 minutes in or so, I found I was able to do both, and I love the new format! I’m a young 73 year old so It takes a little bit of patience learning a new way to do things! Thank you for sharing and I heard very much the same growing up. I would piggyback onto your #2 Hold the Door and say that if someone holds the door for you, ALWAYS acknowledge them by saying “thank you”. I have held the door many times and find it impolite when the person doesn’t even acknowledge my gesture of consideration.
Just yesterday, I had someone offer for me to go ahead of them in line because I had just a few items and another person hold the door for me. Both times I looked them right in the eyes, smiled and said thank you.

Here's another lesson to add to your list - when someone does something hurtful to you, respond by finding some thing purely good to do for someone else. A random someone else who will just shift the hurt feeling to a feeling of peace and goodness. It really works.

My Mother died when I was 14 so I credit her with how I was raised but don't remember specific things. It warms my heart when my 35 and 40 year old daughters mention a way I influenced them. The thing they mention most frequently is me saying "the harder you work the luckier you get". It has always been my motto as I did not have an easy time in life and had to work extra hard. It is funny how people will mention how lucky someone is when they have worked hard to cultivate many of the 42 things you mention. Most things are attainable if you want them enough.

It is taking months of dedicated Saturdays, as the rest of the week I am either earning a small income or visiting with folk here where I live. This is a community of 300 plus folk, and very social! Hi Linda, what a fabulous video, I loved it, my Mum told me always treat others the way you wish to be treated. I could comment on all the things you've mentioned but just picking a couple, I always wear lipstick too, as we as mascara and blusher even if I don't put any other makeup on, and I always make the bed. We don't have a dishwasher (well I do its hubby Graham) and we always wash any last dishes that are left before we go to bed, its usually a couple of wine and water glasses, it makes it much more pleasant to get up to a tidy kitchen in the mornings. Again, loved the video regards Julie from England 🇬🇧 x

My Mother always said always be kind to everyone and take the time to make them feel special. I am happiest when my home is clean and in order. So I never go without making my bed and making sure everything is neat and tidy. Guess I got that from my Mother also. I just finished this video, and related to it in so many ways. From 'be on time', 'be polite' to ''better to overdress than under dress and 'don't lie', so many of these life lessons are what I try to follow, and tried to share with my (now adult) children. I very much enjoyed listening to it, because in this crazy world the niceties of life are sometimes ignored or considered passe. Another that I follow is about drinking and driving; 'if you are driving, don't even have one. That way no mistakes can be made'. A very enjoyable 25 minutes!

Thanks Linda - Great video: audio & visual.
I enjoyed the close up of the yellow flower and the tiny bee flying by it.
Your not alone in what you were taught and seeing some of the comments we were taught the same principles.
Your channel is a breath of fresh. Thank you for your hard work! 😊

Loved your video!!! Our mothers showed us through their love for us the many ways to live a good life. The other day my great grand daughter was playing and her mother went off to get her a toy she wanted and with her little soft voice she said thank you. She is only three years old. This really touched my heart. Continue to do your good work.
