The plot of the film is not during the Second World War, it is from a few years before, where Hitler's Nazi party was already ruling. This movie represents the reborn of classical adventures movies into a new modern and fresh style. Adventure cinema was reinvented in such a way that many have drawn on these films to inspire later ones (The Mummy saga, National Treasure saga, Tomb Raider videogames and later on the films, Uncharted videogame and movies, etc.)
Yes to be specific this film takes place in 1936 and for context, Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Party just took power in Germany in 1933 so he is now trying to consolidate his power before he begins his conquest of Europe.
The reason the Nazis were digging in the wrong place is that they were using only the one side of the medallion that burned the hand of that one Nazi. But the "old man" said the other side of the medallion says "take back one kadam...". Since the Nazis never saw that side their staff was too long.
Yes, this is a Spielberg/Lucas picture, they both bonded over growing up watching action multi-part movie serials in movie theatres and wanted to re-create those with a big budget picture that encapsulated all that they loved about them
Didn't know you started doing reactions. Great reaction video, great editing for RUclips, and perfect audio mix. Oh and needless to say, a great movie. Keep it up 🙂
* The beginning of the movie, was an adventure of Indy's called *Indiana* *Jones* *and* *the* *Idol* *of* *the* Chachapoyas *Temple.* Southeast of Chachapoyas, Peru. Not far from what is now called the "ACP Tilacancha National Park". The "Hovitos" was the particular name of one of the local tribes of native Chachapoyas. Their "Warrior/Hunters" were called "Warriors of the Clouds"(which sounds very suggestive). Somehow, they learned stonemasonry(even to the extent of fulcrum levers), and metalworking(they were obviously at the cusp of their "golden" age, because the wooden idol was gilded with gold(it was not a solid gold statuette). That's why the bag was too heavy(also, I think Indy had a block of lead at the bottom of that bag lol).
Surprised no one’s jd roomed it yet, as it’s likely the most repeated fun fact for this movie, but here goes. The scene in the marketplace, with the man with the large sword and Indy just shoots him was supposed to be a bigger action scene. Harrison improvised shooting him instead because he like nearly everyone else on set during the filing of that scene were sick with food poisoning and he did want to deal with that with a big fight scene so he just took care of it quickly. Its became so iconic and part of Indy’s character, and by extension I think also a bit of the original initial rougher and roguish nature of Han Solo.
Something worth noting when you go into Temple of Doom is that it actually occurs before this film chronologically. You'll see that Indy is a bit rougher around the edges in some ways and see how he develops into the character we have in this film and The Last Crusade. Each film is more or less stand alone however, with some characters recurring, but the core plot events aren't really part of a larger arc like in many proper trilogies.
According to the Bible, no one is allowed to look or touch what is inside the Ark. If so they suffer the wraith of God. That is why Indie told Marion to shut her eyes and not to look.
Cyndiana Jones finally gets to meet Indiana Jones 😂. Awesome reaction Cyn. This movie is classic that will live forever. Spielberg and Lucus were inspired by serial movies ljke this when they were growing up, as this movie has inspired others like the Pirates of The Caribbean movies and the Lara Croft/ Nathan Drake games. Looking forward to the reactions to the rest of the og trilogy as well as the final film in the series. Even though you've already seen the Crysatl skull, perhaps a re-watch reaction, now that you have more context from the first 3 films.
Personally, I would credit some of Indy's creation to the work of H. Rider Haggard, Haggard wrote a series of adventure novels starting in the late 19th century with King Solomon's Mines. His character Allan Quatermain was a Great White Hunter living in Africa who had amazing encounters with ancient civilizations and artifacts. The books stand up surprisingly well and aren't as racist as I had feared, given the time he wrote them and British attitudes toward native peoples.
Great reaction... One fun note is that George Lucas started working on this project with Steven Spielberg in 1977. Lucas had to miss opening night of a small project he just finished ... I think it was called.... Star Wars 😎 if youre ever in So Cal i take you to Disneyland so we can go on the Indiana Jones ride... My daughter is a cast member there so she can sign us into the park
Don't let anyone tell you what to watch or not to watch. Crystal Skull is nowhere near as bad as it's made out to be nor is Dial of Destiny. Also, don't worry about Satipo. He'll be reborn one day as a genius scientist who gets four metal arms grafted to his spine and wants to hold the power of the sun in the palm of his hand lol
Yeeeees! I was waiting for this! 25:15 It says "Don't disturb" Marion is such an amazing character! Loooove her! Super fun reaction! Please do react to the other ones, especially the third one. It's my favorite one, just above the first one. Happy Holidays, Cyn!
There is nobody left alive to have witnessed the destruction of the Germans by the Ark. Indie and Miriam had their eyes closed. As far as we know, the ritual failed, and all they heard were the Germans hastily loading all their gear and men onto trucks and leaving.
I will never understand why Lucasfilm allowed the changing of the movie's title for marketing purposes. It is just "Raiders of the Lost Ark" no "Indiana Jones and..." Those titles started with the 2nd movie. As for fun facts: The rolling ball of death, while not made out of stone obviously, was heavy enough to cause serious bodily injury. That was Harrison Ford himself running away from it and they had to shoot that 7 times. Luckily he outran it every time. ;)
Meh, the hate for The Crystal Skull is far too overblown. There are some very classic Indy moments in it and it works for the most part. The forced “hat” passing to Shia doesn’t quite work because he was/leagues under the charismatic chatter that is Indiana Jones and Harrison himself. However it’s not a terrible movie and despite what many people say, as mentioned here, it still counts as an Indy movie. Just because it’s not great and has issues, it dies by change objective reality. Now you can remove it from your own personal head canon, but that’s another matter entirely. That being said, like mentioned earlier, the stories of the original three are also leagues above the most recent movies. However the newest game nearly gets everything right about Indy, though they do seem to focus on a game play aspect that’s a little contrary I think, but I still very much think it’s a great adaptation.
The Peruvian guide Satipo is played by Alfred Molina, who is best known for playing Dr. Octopus in _Spider-Man 2_ . Indy's Egyptian friend Sallah is played by John Rhys-Davies of _Lord of the Rings_ fame. One of the Nazis on the truck is played by Paul Hogan, aka _Crocodile Dundee_ . George Lucas and Steven Spielberg based Indiana Jones on 2 things: their love of old adventure serials and James Bond, the latter of which is more evident in the next 2 films.
Hi Cyn, I've just discovered your channel and I've subscribed :) it's great you've seen this adventure classic, its one of Steven Spielberg's best movies - as is Indiana Jones and the Temple Of Doom (1984) please react to that soon.
It's only hinted at in the movie but the reason Marion's father and indy fell out was because she was underage.(The reason for her remark that she was a child) Indy would have been in his mid 20s and she would have been in her mid teens, though when writing the script Lucas and Spielberg wanted to make her even younger during the affair. Fortunately they changed their minds on that.
On a technical level, yeah it is only "hinted," but I really don't think there is anything ambiguous with what they are saying/implying. Indy said he had a falling out with pa Ravenwood ten years earlier. At her bar, Marion says she learned to hate him over the past ten years. Which is when her father and Indy had their falling out (obviously because of Marion). She continues on to say "I was just a child" when the events 10 years earlier happened. I guess it is up to you to decide if she was being literal when she said she was just a child. But, it's well established that she was 15 when their incident happened, particularly spelled out in the book. As for a more direct connection beyond the novelization, the script flat-out says she is 25.
@aceldamia9114 I meant the exact reason is hinted at not that they falling out was over Marion. And yeah be glad she was 15. The original idea was to have her at 12 or 13.
Don't let anybody tell you which movies you should like. The fourth movie isn't nearly as bad as the haters say it is, even if it does costar Shia LaBeouf. As a long time Spielberg and Harrison Ford (and archeology) fan, this is one of my favorite movies. To me, it will always be just Raiders of the Lost Ark. The "Indiana Jones and the" was added after the sequels were released. The call letters on the sea plane at the beginning of the film were OB-CPO. Images of R2-D2 and C-3PO can be seen among the hieroglyphics on a wall in the Well of Souls. The scene with the swordsman was originally written to be a long choreographed fight scene but Ford, as well as most of the rest of the cast and crew, had developed dysentery, and was unable to stand for more than 15 minutes at a time. They tried several times to film it as written, but couldn't make it work, so they decided to change it, and an iconic scene was born. Spielberg first included the coat hanger gag in his film, 1941, but it was cut after it received no laughs during early screenings. He vowed to include it in every film until it worked, and this was it. During the fight scene under the airplane, Ford tore a ligament when the plane ran over his leg. Because the desert heat had softened the rubber of the tire, the injury wasn't as bad as it could have been, and they were able to finish the day's filming. 34:43 Wilhelm scream. Indy's line "It's not the years, honey, it's the milage." (you didn't include it) was ad-libbed by Ford. Spielberg is known for giving his stars room to improvise. The second film, The Temple of Doom is, in my opinion, the worst of the franchise. The Last Crusade is at least as good as this one, plus it costars Sean Connery.
I keep forgetting this isn't your main channel, wondering why I haven't seen a vid from you in a while, but turns out I somehow got unsubed from your main channel Cynthetic.
Argh... I don't think I've seen you since Mass Effect. Accidentally fell off of your other channel because you started playing a lot of games I didn't want spoiled. I should still be subbed, but you stopped appearing in my feed. I must have subbed to this channel, too, and RUclips knows I love Indy reactions. I understand how tough it must be to run two channels, but it's easier for me to keep up with movie reactions than game series, so I'll keep an eye for more posts. Anyway, if you loved Raiders you should indeed watch the rest of the Indy movies. The original trilogy is everything we love about Tomb Raider and Uncharted wrapped up in its own little world. 4 and 5 were made later... a big step down for most people, but you can judge for yourself.
Three more Indy movies to go: "Temple of Doom", "The Last Crusade", and "Dial of Destiny"! There's also a "Young Indiana Jones Chronicles" TV series that's quite good! Between ages 8 and 21 he travels the world (mostly with his father), meets famous people and takes part in historical events. Also consider watching "The Mummy" trilogy with Brendan Fraser, the "National Treasure" movies, and the "Warehouse 13" TV series. "The X-Files" also has a lot of mysteries involving the occult.
Alfred Molina, who played the unfortunate guide who follows Indy into the cave, talked about the tarantulas for the opening scene. Yes, they were real, but they weren't really moving, at first. Spielberg wasn't happy, because he thought people were going to think they were fake. The spider wrangler explained that they were all male tarantulas. Once he added a female, the males all started scurrying around.
Yes to be specific this film takes place in 1936 and for context, Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Party just took power in Germany in 1933 so he is now trying to consolidate his power before he begins his conquest of Europe. World War II officially began in 1939 when Germany invaded Poland.

Do I know you? Does anyone really know you? 🦝🦝 hahaha. Nice reaction to the movie. I don't know if you like to play video games since I have not seen you play any games on THIS channel 🦶🐸 But, there are 2 good Indy games made by Lucasfilm, The Last Crusade and The Fate of Atlantis. First game is based on the third movie with some differences to the plot and the Atlantis game is what should have been the 4th movie instead of the stupid crystal skull one. Both games are point and click adventures, Atlantis game can be played in 3 different ways, action, puzzles or you can have a female partner, Sophia with you the game is a bit different depending on which route you decide to choose so it needs to be played 3 times if you want to see everything in the game.

Although people were anticipating war by then, so similar motives with not wanting the Germans to get anything important.
Yes to be specific this film takes place in 1936 and for context, Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Party just took power in Germany in 1933 so he is now trying to consolidate his power before he begins his conquest of Europe.
She must have missed the "South America: 1936" Card during the start of the movie. I will assume that she knows that WW2 started in 1939. ;)
Hells yeah! Cyn Reaction is back!
Raiders of the Lost Ark!❤

Sallah, Indy´s friend in Cairo, it´s played by John Rhys-Davies, who also played Gimli the dwarf in Lord of The Rings trilogy.
And what's his face who betrayed Indy at the start is played by the same guy who played Doc Ock in the Spider Man 2
And the kid who brings the dates in played Frodo's scale double in LOTR...
Yes, this is a Spielberg/Lucas picture, they both bonded over growing up watching action multi-part movie serials in movie theatres and wanted to re-create those with a big budget picture that encapsulated all that they loved about them
