Always fun traveling with the ICE or IC, not always such fun with Deutsche Bahn due to lot's of delays! It's not a NIGHT sleeper train that is why the night configuration the same as during the day.
Me, as a German who never rode ICEs in Night time, found your video very interesting and will defenitely check out if my next ride could be done at night ! Thanks !
Wow, that was a great trip report. A lot to see! However, I feel I’m already too old to take these overnight ICEs. 😅 At some point I would need to lay down and sleep in a bed 🛌
Díky za zhlédnutí! Pokud máš rád rychlejší jízdu, tak ideál nějaké ICE3 na vysokorychlostní trati, třeba Köln - Frankfurt, kde to jezdí 300 km/h. Já šel nyní cíleně po ICE1, protože mi ještě chybělo do "sbírky" :-D
Hello Pete, nice your video Trip Report Hamburg to Frankfurt 🇩🇪by ICE 1. Great class 1. I know the 2nd between Frankfurt and Munich and Paris Est Frankfurt. I find the comfort nice, but on the other hand sleeping is not easy. Thank you for your always interesting sharing. Friendly greetings from Dives Cabourg in Prague 🇸🇽👋😀👍📽️🤩🤩🚅
Hello Pascal! Thanks for watching! It's certainly not as comfortable as a sleeper train, but if the sleeper trains are already sold out, the night ICE is not a bad option.
Ah~ the ICE 1, the most iconic high-speed train to pop out from my mind first when it comes to German High-Speed Trains. This particular model is highly remarkable since it is the first-ever German-manufactured high-speed train since 1991, known as the born year of German High Speed Rail. Throughout the journey since it launched, it has never been easy for this particular trainset to go through times of glory, challenges as well and the Darkest moment. Despite these, the train is well-maintained and good as new as I see from the trip report. However, as time passes by, more new trains are gradually ordered thus slowly replacing the old trains and ICE 1 is no exception as the train has been running across and beyond the borders for 30 years. I hope to get the golden opportunity before it retires from service. Cheers from Malaysia
Thanks so much for watching! So far, it looks like some ICE 1s will still remain in service, as some of them underwent a second modernization (specifically, this was already after the second modernization). In my opinion, these BR401 (ICE1) units are the best of the ICE trains, but I also like the ICE 3 Velaro, they are faster but also comfortable. Greetings from Prague :-)
Nice report Pete, although I’d prefer the proper sleeper trains with either a couchette or cabin these trains certainly fill that gap of less expensive travel, think I’d go for the compartment might get a chance to stretch out in one, looking forward to your next post
Thanks so much for watching! It is usually difficult to find a free compartment on sleeper trains, most sleeping cars are sold out several months in advance. I preferred open plan seating because there was a reservation in every compartment and I didn't want to share a compartment with anyone :-D
Actually i have to say that the ICE 1 with 9 Carriages is part of the LDV Program which DB does to make the trains fit for service until 2030 at least. The normal ICE Configuration is 2 Power cars and 12 Intermediates
Asi příští rok, to bych už mohl opět zkusí nějakou dálkovou linku mimo Evropu..
Why, oh why does DB not offer spaces with dimmed down lighting and without routine loudspeaker announcements? I understand that you shouldn't suppress messages important for security... but who wants to be woken up by the breathless announcement of the soup of the day in the restaurant car - after every skngle stop??
ICE1 is my lovely favourite train set in Germany. All other followers did not reach the same standard. Especially the ICE4, I hate. Overnight ICE s are no option, they are slow, taking longer routes, have much more stops, no alternative…for me it’s a smart way for DB to bring the trains to nee start position for the next day. Why I should take this train when the early morning service takes only 3,5 h from Hamburg to Frankfurt. DB should invest money in developing new night trains again but they rather give this to train companies from abroad like ÖBB. So stupid.
I also like ICE1 best. As for the night ICE / IC trains, the travel time is set so that the train does not arrive at the destination too early. For me, these trains make sense if I want to travel without having to stay overnight in a hotel and sleeper trains are sold out.
DB doesn't offer real overnight service. Lights are staying always on, announcements are shockingly loud and unnecessary, Wagons are beign overbooked with people sitting on floor, talking loud direct against the your reserved seat...I tried several times, it wasn't possible to sleep.
Actually i just took one yesterday from Cologne to Hamburg and it was possible to sleep. Note: Travelled in a compartment and the train was rather empty
I've tried the ICE night trains several times, but I was probably lucky that they weren't full. A week ago I traveled from Berlin to Munich on an ICE 4 and there were only 3 passengers in the whole carriage and thanks to the longer sections without stops it was possible to sleep. But I always choose 1st class and try to choose connections where Low demand is indicated in the application.
To all non-Germans. The names Bvmz, Bpmbsz and Avmz are not important to you. Not even for us Germans. The designations are relevant for the staff of Deutsche Bahn. So orient yourself only to the (1.) class compartment and (2.) class compartment, marked to the coaches.
The journey time is 7h13m after subtracting stopover times. Otherwise, this night train takes a longer route, daytime trains are faster. The purpose of overnight trains is not a shorter journey time, but to arrive at a reasonable hour.
Well, let's put it this way: this service uses ICE rolling stock, but it isn't actually a high speed service, so I find branding "ICE" a bit problematic and I think it should be priced lower than ICE (maybe it is, I'm not familiar with ICE pricing). @@PeteBrandy
@@maxart3392 i think that 30 Euros in first class is already pretty cheap. And if you travel through the night, the basic price is way lower than during the daytime, sometimes it is only half of a daytime trip

Yeah, just a regular train in the night 😅
Really appreciate all your hard work

Thanks for watching! Definitely try it, I've already traveled several night ICE lines and it's not so bad choice, it mainly saves me time :-)
Wow, that was a great trip report. A lot to see! However, I feel I’m already too old to take these overnight ICEs. 😅 At some point I would need to lay down and sleep in a bed 🛌
Thanks so much! For me, this train was a choice to spend the night and also save costs for hotel accommodation :-D
@@PeteBrandy Sure, that makes sense! and a great video came out with it :)

Yes, I know.. just a week ago I traveled on a 12-car ICE which had 3 1st class carriages :-)
Why didn't you use one of the compartments? There you can switch off the light.
Because there were reservations in every compartment, so I chose open plan rather than share a compartment with another person.
super video🤩🤩

Thanks for a very thourough report - there´s one thing I woould like know i possible: Are the seats i 2nd class also a bit reclinable?
Thanks for watching! I found that the 2nd class seats are also equipped with a lever for seat recline.

Want to correct you, in ICE trains is also there are bike spaces, but not in all trains.
I think only on ICE4 are bike spaces (car No. 1), but I didn't see bike spaces on ICE1, ICE2, ICE T or ICE3. Maybe ICE3neo have also bike spaces.

I may have asked you before, but why aren't lights dimmed?
I think it's for security reasons

Ridiculous. There's nothing 'Express' about this train at all. That many stops and those long halts...
Slow ride. 676km took 8.5h
it's intentional so you leave hamburg in the evening and arrive in frankfurt in the morning
