College Dream Bike Build - 2004 Ellsworth Truth Restoration Build
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 июл 2024
- In the 90's I drooled over Ellsworth bikes. I remember in college flipping through the Ellsworth catalogue with by buddies dreaming that someday I could own one. That day came a few weeks ago when I spotted this frame at the Salt Lake Bicycle Collective and I brought this awesome frame home.

I picked up a discarded ‘96 Ellsworth Truth that needed a lot of repair but has turned out to be a great bike for my grandson.
Love this bike and this channel. These nostalgic high end builds bring us back to the golden days of mountain biking.
Beautiful restoration build. I love that bike and it’s a keeper. Don’t ever let go of it.
Congrats on 200k subscribers!
Thanks
Im still using my 2010 Scott Ransom 26er!! I love old school full suspension bikes like this
Was so happy when I saw this on your Shorts video... I knew what it was immediately, been a dream bike of mine for a long time!
I always loved the old Ellsworth and Turner frames! Beautiful bikes!
My dear Oldshovle, I love the emotional way you share your bike dreams with the world. Made my coffee morning. Greetings from my Vacation at Bodensee in southern germany. Stephan
I still have a 2009 Ellsworth Evolve. 29 wheels and still performing well. And lighter than most bikes in its class now.
Beautiful bike. You sparked my memory on how much I drooled over Ellsworth bikes. NOW, I am on the lookout for one.
i appreciate you aligning the logos on the tires and wheels. So many people don't bother these days
Awesome build. Love it.
Thanks
funny thing- I picked one of these up during the pandemic for 400 bucks- guy even had the owners manual, stickers, and a Ellsworth Pint glass. Ended up selling it for 1200 during the crazy days but i kept the pint glass- wish i woulda kept it!
this brought me back to my Ellsworth ID. what an incredible bike that was. thanks for this. ☮️
Such an amazing bike back in the day. Glad to see you’re breathing be life back into it
Magura MT7's might be an overkill for an XC bike, but damn those are sweet brakes! They'd adorn just any bicycle.
I had an Ellsworth Id when it first came out. The bottom bracket height was ridiculous at like 14" but it was perfectly balanced and was perfect for the log rolls in the PNW. Loved it....until the chainstay cracked.
I bought a Gen 1 Ellsworth Moment frame off eBay back in 2004, it was an absolutely brilliant bike. Pace fork, dhx air shock, XT 10 speed with bash guard all finished with Hope stem, seat clamp, wheels and brakes. It was probably the most comfortable and fun bike I’ve owned, I don’t understand why they got so much hate, they obviously never rode one.
Rode a 26" Turner XCE frame for many years. Almost bought the Ellsworth but went with Turner in the end. Glad to see these older frames get some love. They still ride great on natural trails rather than the new, faster, park-style trails.
I did the same.
Bought the Flux.
awesome build as ever !! wish I could find old dream bikes easily as you.....
Well done. Thank you for sharing. I currently have and still riding an Evolve and a Rogue 40. Both fun rides.
Wow! That was a dream build! 🤍🤍🤍 Love the old school full suspension bikes. 😊 I wish we have a shop here in our place that sells old school bikes.... 🚴
Man, Ellsworth was the s**t back in the day! Had some friends that had them. Made me super envious.
Beautiful Ellsworth it came awesome. Thank you for sharing this has inspired me to go the same way with my 95 Cannondale Super v 900. Keep up the great work and stay safe out there.
It's more a cleaning than a restoring
Another lovely build, and after watching this and suitably inspired Im of to service my 29er 👍🏻🙂
Awsome Video👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Would you build up an old Kona Stinky😍🔥
Beautiful bike my brother has one
Good job❤!!
Reminds me a little to a Kona Stinky. Beautiful Built. Have fun while riddin it🤙
I've never riden an Ellsworth bike, but they look Great🤘🤘
Grazie al tuo splendido lavoro un altra MTB è ritornata a rivivere 🤙🤙🤙👋👋👋👋
Que preciosa bici y muy buena suspensión!😎👍
Wow very nice frame ❤️
The gen 1 Dare is still on my bucket list, preferably in the setup that Shaums March rode with the ZZYZX fork(I know).
Same here-now in a stage of life where I am trying to fulfill college mtb dreams. Unfortunately I wanted a Titus racer x back then, which now lacks support and is standover challenged. Am considering a Santa Cruz superlight instead.
I'm a member of the r/mountainbiking and r/budgetbikeriders subreddit's and there are always people showing older bikes like these asking if they are good first mountain bikes and it pisses me off because everyone on those subreddits are so obsessed with geometry and having all the newest tech and always tell the people not to buy the bikes. There was guy just last week who was going to buy an older Kona Dawg Dee lux that looked to be in great condition and i was the only person encouraging him to buy it.
I had one (and a TiRuth), two of the nicest riding bikes I ever rode.
Beautiful bike. Bikes just look better to me with straight tubes. IMO. ( but I’m old, so……) Having said that, my last DH bike was a 2001 Dare, which didn’t have a single straight tube anywhere. But it was fun to ride.
Impossible to found Ellsworth here in Spain, Bender are proud of you whit this recovered amazing bike
And maybe you'll go with Mavic 517 SUP or Mavic 719 wheels🤘🤘. I'm hoping to finally go back to Mavic's in the next couple of months, Crossrides; they're almost 💰600.00🍁. My first pair was a 222 F with an STX-RC hub and a 221 R with an LX hub; this was w🅰️y....back....in 1999. Then, in 2001, I paid about $350.00🍁 for a barely used set of Mavic 517 SUP with Parallax XT hubs; I still have the hubs. But the rear one is seized😖 lol. Lastly, in 2010, I bought a set of 719s with XT disk hubs🤘🤘. S🍁rry for "writing a book"😁
Mais um ótimo e lindo trabalho. Parabéns! 🇧🇷
Rad build!!
I was blessed to have parents that supported my mountain biking as a teenager when this bike was new. However, they didn’t support it financially because our family budget didn’t allow it besides a couple race registrations and gas money to get there. Definitely drooled over the Ellsworth Truth at that time. Great episode!
Me encantan tus videos!!!!! muchas Gracias
Maybe this is something you did off camera, but what about the shock? Did you do any service or rebuild on that shock, or was that something you checked out and it was good?
Build an HKS I used to love those bikes in the late 90’s
I bought this bike 20 years ago and it's still going well.
Great build. Why didn’t you use the parts you originally picked?
Man, I have a 2007 stump jumper fsr....love it
Hello, I have a question because always in each restoration of the bicycle in question you change the handlebars, is it only to make it look more modern or because it improves its performance?
I had a Psycle Werks Wild Hare but I wanted an Ellsworth Truth.
Beautiful Clean up.. When you have that back in the stand you should consider a dropper post. I think it would change your experience on the bike,
Nice build, but I am sad we haven't seen you paint any frames in a while,
That bike is sweet! I'd love to have it. But currently walking to and from work kind of bites. :/
Great frame 🎉what size ?
My dream hobby
Similar to my 2004 Kona Dawg at first glance but totaly a better built frame , also Horst Link not single pivot like the kona was.
Nice choice of new parts on the resto mod and if it were mine i would go looking for an original Gravity Dropper mechanical seatpost 😆🤙
Nice end product.
Как всегда, отличная работа.❤
Ellsworth had some really good quality bikes when Freeride hit it became a well known name but it also had nice trail bikes & XC bikes.
Cool bike.. Looks like a 26er in a 29er body frame
Thow it on the scale.
What a beautiful place to live!
Amazing job! I thought that you will take off the V-brakes pivots on rear frame. Will you do that in future? Enjoyable video! Big hug!
Nice find @oldshovel, the frame is in such an amazing condition! The way the rear shock is mounted looks a bit weird to me. Wouldn't it be possible to flip the shock with the air valve pointing to the left, to have easier access to the adjustment dial?
Dont you paint them anymore. I loves the stickers you use to make.
is this frame actually anodized instead of painted? looks fantastic
The font of the ellsworth on the frame is off. But I would love to restore something similar in the future.
Great build! Curious how you decide which grease to use for different applications. I think I spotted four different greases used in this build.
Bella
Wouldn't mind some "new" public domain tunes music mix on the dlo
Would love to see that bike with a 2 degree slacker headset and a 27.5 wheel/tire upfront !!!
Hopefully, you're going to go with M750 or m🅰️ybe M770 XT components 😁🤘🤘
My first full sus was a 2000 Truth.
Awesome
Bro..... Now we're talking. Ellsworth and Turner were the fantasy bikes back then.
Good idea modding to a 1x. What size chainring did you use?
100%!!
and agein not service damper/fork
First from Australia!Collage or college?
lol it was a late night spelling error. I noticed the error this morning and fixed it.
Truth
Hallo!
And you def❗️nitely h🅰️ve one Great channel🤘🤘 "YEAH❗️"
Is that 26 wheels or 27.5
Had a blue 1 same color as yours then a flat black 1 then a red smoke 1 , not bragging but yea everyone loved those bikes ,wonder what happen to them ,I believe there still in business but nothing like they were
I know Tony sold the company several years ago and since I haven’t seen much of it.
Are you a fan of Thomson?
shouldn't dumper be serviced?
But why you didn’t replace the bearing and didn’t give the rear fork a new painting ?
Did u ever owned a 2009 cannondale judge ?
I'm not into full sus but I like that bike
How much?
When I got into riding around 2006 I remember lusting over the Ellsworth Banshee. By today’s standards, it is a terrible bike, back then it was about as cool as they came.
svitare e riavvitare due viti e un colpo di straccio lo chiami restauro??
Is it 27,5? Or 26? I cant really tell. Usually it is obvious, but not on that bike. Also, you really like SPDs on your xc bikes right? I saw you use them on all of your personal builds.
It’s a 26” bike. And yes I am an spd guy. They’re super common and work good for me and I can easily have them on all my vintage rides without having to swap pedals all the time.
@@oldshovel awesome! I have both spd and crankbrothers, trying them both. So far, Crankbrothers feel a little better for me, but as you say, spd is cheaper and everywhere. After 25 years on flats, I gave this a chance. So far, so good.
Wow, I didn't know that there were full suspension bikes back then. I started having a full suspension bike last 2016 and I thought that full suspension bikes were invented at that time. 😅
Only rich kids in our country would have Ellsworth during our time.
One kid in my neighborhood had a 1995 kona sex one, we all hated his guts 😂
@@LaurentiusTriarius the elitist. lolz
Wait a minute… did you not learn how to spell college in college? 😅
Or maybe it’s a collage of memories
Lol it was late last night when titled the video and this morning when checking how things are going, I was like, “wait that’s not right.” I figured someone had to have caught it also. 😁🙌
What? No period-correct rear derailleur? I do not see how it is OK to do this but not OK to leave a V-brake upgrade on a suspension fork that was not really intended for cantilevers.
Must have been a out west bike because here in the Midwest that name doesn't exist
No. They were everywhere.
